Ok so I'm 31, have a 60" Vizio LED 1080p smart HD Tv. When I'm playing games I usually sit about 6' or less away from my tv, just like to be close I guess. What's difference will I see if I am gaming next gen between 720, 900, or 1080p. What would I be looking for difference wise in the picture.

Basically all I know is the difference is more pixils right? How's that affect me gaming wise. And what res am I playing games at in this gen? How big of a deal is this really cause on here it seems like the deal breaker but I honestly don't really understand.

You shouldn't care about it. As long as you enjoy the gameplay and story, that is all that matters.

Hermits and other graphic fanatics will tell u otherwise. Enjoy gaming for what it is about. Good fun games

@Netret0120: I agree with this logic but I'd still like to have the knowledge to know what the difference is or what I am or am not missing out on. I've never been a PC gamer but I've seen some amazing looking games on PC, I remember way back seeing Myst for the first time it blew anything I played on consoles at the time out of the water, same with Unreal Tournament. I've always accepted the fact that I just don't put in the time and effort and money for PC gaming and it will always be leaps n bounds better than what I'm playing on a console cause it can be upgraded when ever.

@freedomfreak: Ok now we are getting somewhere, does it matter what size your screen is? I've seen some nice PC set ups biggest screen I've seen someone have a PC set up is about 32" They were playing Crysis, and it looked amazing, but does that translate and look just as good on a bigger screen??? I've always assumed that about PC playing usually on a smaller screen set up that's why it always looked better

With a higher resolution, aliasing and shimmering is lessened and the whole image will be more defined, sharper, detailed. The bigger the screen and shorter the distance, the more pronounced this becomes.
6 feet away from a 60", 720p to 1080p should make for a significant difference.

How does games look now? Pretty much that 720. Few tweets on twitter has been linking x1 1080p issue to drivers. So once ms gets drivers in right place the issue should be fixed. Either way look at this gen. Games was running at 480p to 640p early on and now most games run at 720p.

There is a difference on any size display you look at. Heck I can tell the difference on my 5" phone. The higher rez jus makes a game more immersive.. that said if the game sucks not even a 4k resolution will make it any better! Just finished gta5 on ps3 last week and am now playin saints row 4 on pc now maxed out. And am like dang they need to bring gtav to pc cause this games kinda lame

@McStrongfast: Yeah but games like COD: Ghost, Battlefield 4, NBA 14 look better on the next gen systems over PS3 and 360, that's not because of the resolution is it??

more resolution means more clarity, more detail, less jaggies, more stuff can be put on screen, etc.

@silversix_: New Super Mario and Mario Galaxy look good, not as spectacular as a PS/360 game but good for that the system can do. I didn't get a wii cause it was a power house console I got it for the gimmick and kids and knew what I was getting into. The differences in games I've seen between PS4/X1 are not as drastic as Wii to PS3/360, I can't tell a difference in them?? Ryse looks good graphically, KZ, looks good, DR3 looks good???

At 6 feet away you'll still notice a clear difference between 720p and 1080p You'll notice a difference between 900p and 1080p too. 720p is really low res. You really need to try it out first hand. If you have a friend with a decent PC ask them to show you a game running at those resolutions and you'll see the difference.

@Pray_to_me: Yeah but too bad on a Tv the difference between 720 and 1080 don't look like that that's just a still pic made up of 720 cubes, and 1080 cubes, just because there is less cubes doesn't mean you cant put more detail in those cubes, right???

1920x1080 is better than 1280x720. You can stick to 360 and ps3, if you dont care about graphical advancement.

@Nohtnym: Whether the game is in 720, 900, 1080 the next gen consoles are still a graphical improvement over PS3/360!!! So your still getting that graphic bump, I downloaded Rainbow Six Vegas when 360 was giving it away cause I played it and loved it years ago and I couldn't believe how much the graphics has changed since then but it's still a great game none the less! Anyone getting a next gen console is getting it for the graphic bump, especially PS3 owners getting a PS4, you can get Ghosts on both systems yet pay to play it online on PS4 with the graphic bump?!?

I just don't see what I'm missing out on right now between the resolutions, hopefully by the time March rolls around there will be some really good info out/videos and set ups in stores so I can compare and see what I wanna get.
