Smash Bros Ultimate: Persona 5 Joker Fighter Reveal!

This is the 1st of 5 DLC characters. Super exciting, I don't think anybody saw it coming.

We are getting fighters no one asks for as DLC, so much for selling the fighter pass.

A bunch of 'playstation' characters now. Alucard, cloud, now Joker?

Honestly, Nintendo needs to put up or shut up with real game announcements. The biggest hype they got from me is Metroid Prime right now and I'm happy for them that Pokemon is printing money, but the Smash teases are half measures. Quit being a B, and just whip it out already.

The decision on the DLC characters are done by Nintendo staff, not from Smash Bros. fans.

If you do not like the DLC characters, then do not buy them. They are optional.

Well, many will not buy the fighter pass because simply put, Joker isn't a well known character. He is a character that is from a niche game that sold only 2 million.

Nintendo is not being smart with their DLC choices. They need to be like Ed Boon and actually listen to fans.

Not revealing all 5 is another brain dead decision by Nintendo.

Anyway, I know you strongly disliked Persona 5, but how is this a bad choice? Persona 5 is big in Japan, his fighting style fits Smash Bros really well, and the announcement comes a week after Joker made his 3DS debut.

Better yet, he's not another bloody Fire Emblem swordsman.

Given how costly the base game is, and how little content it has, its really outrageous Nintendo decided to release half the fighters as grossly overpriced DLCs.

Still, Nintendo fanboys will pay for anything, so...

Because if you are selling a season pass, players should know what they are getting.

Persona 5 is a bad choice compared to many other characters both first party and third. Yes, Persona 5 is big in Japan, but it is NOWHERE near as big as say, Dragon Quest, which would be a hugely smart choice for this game.

Erdrick will sell passes, Joker won't.

Well, Final Fantasy VII, the game that was a symbol of bad third party party relations with Nintendo, IS getting a Switch port, so...

Still, questionable choice this is, it could be worse (Negan in Tekken 7).

I’m cool with Joker being included in the dlc for Smash Ultimate. I’m hoping that this means we’ll be seeing Persona 5 making its way to the Switch as well.

Going to hold off buying the pass until I know what all 5 characters are. If I have no interest in most of them I'll pass. There is plenty of content in the base game for now.

Crash has been on Nintendo for a while. Since the freaking GameCube. He just didn't have a great game until the N'Sane collection. Metal Gear's Nintendo history dates back to the NES (even if the port wasn't good compared to the MSX version) before it even went on PlayStation and even the original MGS had a remake on the GameCube, so of course Nintendo fans know who Snake is.

Don't think anyone gives a shit about the Persona 5 protagonist being part of Smash Ultimate. This is what Nintendo can only bring onto the Switch, the protagonist, not Persona 5. Only time will tell when P5 gets a Switch port.

@nintendoboy16: Nintendo fans know who Snake is because of Metal Gear Solid on Playstation. The original games on NES had nowhere near the critical acclaim as the MGS trilogy. Shit, their showing at E3 in 1996 had more hype then than those games in their entirety

As a big fan of Persona 5, it was one of my favorite games last year, this is both unsuspecting and exciting. I hope that's a sign Persona 5 can come to the Switch as well.

You know who also wasn't popular? Marth and Roy! And after Super Smash Bros. Melee, they and Fire Emblem caught on in the west.

Nintendo isn't the only one who doesn't reveal everything with their passes. Namco Bandai doesn't either (remembers the Season 2 pass when only Anna, Lei and Negan were revealed, later Julia Chang was revealed).

Ed Boon? The Todd Howard of fighting games? Both are absolute trolls. (Just like Sakurai, more I think of it)

Again, I must reiterate, I find this a questionable addition, but I've seen much worse (and no, it's not Cloud anymore).

Have you played Persona 5 though? It's one of the best games I played in years. When I initially played it on the PS4 one of my major thoughts was "this is the perfect type of game for the Switch." I know time will tell, but something's itching me here with the belief Persona 5 might just be able to come to the Switch.

Joker is an awesome character, and even more awesome I could only imagine how crazy the stage will be and all the awesome music that will be in the game. As a fan of Persona 5 this is unexpected yet awesome, and hopeful the series is making its way to the Switch.

I could only imagine how many more copies of the game that would sell if it was on Switch. I feel like there's more of a market for it on the Nintendo platform.

@nintendoboy16: i actually think joker is a good fit in smash bros. Actually anyone can go in that game, it bolsters its main appeal, which is picking characters from any of your favorite series. Smash Ultimate is looking better because of it.
