Size comparison between real life Series X and PS5

We've seen the mockups, and the dummy units, but we finally have a comparison between two real systems. I remember when the Series X was first revealed, Cows said it was too big to fit in Japanese people's houses, or some such nonsense. Or, that peoples entertainment centers were too small. I wonder where those Cows are now?

But that PS5 is gigantic. It looks almost comically bigger than the Series X. It also consumes more power despite being weaker. What could that thing possibly have inside of it that needs that much power?

It needs to be that big to contain the beastly SSD that makes games run at 8K/120fps. I heard the SSD may also give PS5 HDMI 3.0 capabilities and we may be seeing 16K gaming on it.

PS5 must be compensating for something.😉

Lol, it is big, but it's not ugly, like the original Xbox One was or even the original Xbox.

That looks like one of my fishing photos. They'll both hold about the same amount of beer according to a different system wars thread, so I'm good.

Standing it vertically makes PS5 less big then it's showing but the size isn't something I'm gonna care for.

It'll still fit in my entertainment pretty easily with room to spare. Plus, we know it's that big due to the fan. I'd rather it be massive and quiet than small and loud like PS4. We'll see if it gets louder with time but so far, many of stated is a very quiet system.

The X1 may be shit, but it is not ugly. The original Xbox.... yeah, it is ugly.

Also, I'd be surprised if PS5 uses more power. It's using power saving features like smartshift. I haven't seen a breakdown yet of average power consumption though.

Seems to be the difference between a thermally optimally-designed package (Series X) and one that seemed to have been slapped together after realising conventional solutions can't cool a smaller, hotter chip.

I think the X is my favorite looking console ever made. Simple, sleek, doesn't feel like a cheap n hollow piece of plastic and the color fits with your video/audio stuff. I wish my ps5 looked like that.

How can you expect a system packing RDNA3 futures and the most advanced SSD in the planet to be small?

Based on earlier reports, Sony engineers were having a hell of a time incorporating an efficient cooling system, so I suspect that's the reason for the absurdly large case. Heck, I've seen PC towers that are smaller!

My gaming PC is smaller than that.

that big and yet there is nothing inside it...the 9.2 tinyflops and the RDNA 1.25 must rattle about like the last 2 biscuits in the tin

It's not even the ridiculous size of the PS5 that bothers me, the shit is just plain ugly lmao. It being that big only adds to the issue.

Thats just one angle. Not really a good representation of the size. These photos do a better job. PS5 still fits easier in a traditional entertainment center as it's not as tall as XSex on its side.

So i'm going to have to shift over the ol wii u. I wonder if i could slot it in under my telly?

......at least you are getting more physical console for your money. that counts for something right? :P.

The look of the PS5 has definitely grown on me though. I do like it.

@xantufrog: They're both rotated slightly.....and the shot is angled so that the ps5 is closer, but other shots have confirmed it.....it's just that huge.

Digital Foundry just did an unboxing of both. PS5 doesnt look as big on there compared to this photo.

I'm wondering if I should take the faceplate off and throw that bad boy into my room at night... I need a new fan.

@Pedro: I'm honestly baffled that anybody doesn't think it's the very definition of ugly....but I'd compare it to a modded car with led running board lights and cylinders poking through the hood. Somebody's dream, another's eyesore.

You can't fit 8k in a small box.

I just don't like the bent on the edge of the PS5, it looks silly but not as bad when it sits virtually in my opinion.

@sealionact: no, it's really not. See Sagemode's images above. It's a monster to be sure, but that perspective and having it at about 45 degrees while the X is close to head on is... someone took a pic to tell a story, not just show things as they are. The OP image makes it look about 3x the size

I don't know how anyone can think the Series X is anything beyond boring. It's literally a PC tower. Even Xbox made fun of it with the fridge.

The SeX design is boring, they spent more time & money on the the guts of the machine, and Sony spend money on the humongous PS5, its fugly, and i know as the good little cow you are will disagree, but its fugly, and flimsy also.

@SolidGame_basic: It’s the simplicity of the Xbox Series X that I find appealing. I don’t desire for something to have all these curves, bends, fins, etc. to it. Microsoft isn’t making fun of their system, they are leaning into a meme and having fun with that. There is a difference.

@Archangel3371: honestly both consoles could be better in my opinion, but in the end it really doesn't matter lol I do like that the PS5 caters more to horizontal position because that's what would fit best for my set up.
