The PS5 controller is undoubtedly one of the coolest things about the PS5 so far. I've been playing Resident Evil 8 (just beat Lady Dimitrescu!) and you can feel the difference in the guns from using the adaptive triggers. You can't spam the shotgun, when you pull the trigger you have to let go to use it again. And the triggers make you feel that to great effect. It feels weighty as if you were using the real thing. Same idea with the sniper rifle. When you aim, you can feel the pull from the trigger. It's great! There are other nice touches here and there like the use of the light to display the color of your health. And I've seen features like this used by other games as well. In Returnal, there's good use of the controller mic. You can hear your gun as it recharges. Overall, it seems like the DualSense is a big hit and I can see developers continuing to use the features. So that begs the qustion..Should/will Xbox update their controller to compete with DualSense? It seems like they played it too safe this gen. Thoughts, SW? Do you agree?

Yeah, why not. Xbox already has vibration in it's trigger. While not as advanced as Dual Sense it's still works great for feeling gunshots or braking in Forza etc.

Will be interesting to see how the Dual Sense triggers hold up over time and whether those tiny plastic gears will be robust enough to last.

Remove the batteries and make it a bit smaller (like 10%). The shape is good as is.

They've already been poling about it, so it's bound to happen. The current controller just isn't a leap forward at all

Haven’t had a chance to use a Dual Sense controller myself but I’m going to say that I don’t think that they should copy it for their controller, at least all aspects. The rumble sensitivity would be fine but I think that I could do without having a light on my controller and having resistant mechanisms in the triggers. I’d rather have them stick with leaving the options for what kind of batteries people use in the controller as well.

May even be better, because now MS have the benefit of seeing how things work out with the Duel Sense with developers and consumers.

Of course not. Not even close. The only ones that complain about this stuff are the ones that are stuck with AA batteries inside a controller in 2021. Its their way of damage controlling their AA batteries 🤣

Sure I guess, they've already got a better controller so may as well stop the only advantage Sony have being.

No point in blaming China for cheap components, they don't choose the parts, do they? The Chinese manufacture components of all qualities, the designer has to choose what goes in.

If MS, Sony and Nintendo choose cheap components, it's hardly the manufacturer's fault even if they market their products as premium goods.

The DualSense is overrated. Whether or not Xbox implements the features found in the controller would be a trivial addition and up the cost of the controller to $70. But MS can do whatever pleases them. 🤷‍♀️

@girlusocrazy: Is the light for the logo on the Xbox controller even close to being the same kind of light used on the Dual Sense?

Edit: Regardless it’s certainly not something that would miss if it were gone.

"Should/will Xbox update their controller to compete with DualSense?"

Xbox is not the name of a company; it is a brand owned by Microsoft. You should have reworded the topic title as "Should/Will Microsoft update its controller to compete with DualSense?"

@SolidGame_basic: The triggers on the dual sense are cool, and yes…that feature would be a nice upgrade…but the mic and trackpad are useless. Haptics are turned down when using the mic, which defeats the point.
Given a choice between the two, I’d go for the xbox controller every time because of stick layout, battery life and the interoperability of the X1 and XSX joysticks between the two systems - something I think Sony should have done considering you can play ps5 games on PS4 with a dualshock when streaming.

I forgot xbox even had rumble triggers until lamprey mentioned them few days ago. Seems those were woefully underused and honestly they should just join the gimmick cause the tech been quite hyped by many.

Yeah it's funny how the xbox triggers were dismissed as a useless gimmick whereas the PS5 triggers are groundbreakingly game changing.

Insert “Uh-huh…yeah, sure.” GIF here. My MacBook Pro from 2009 gets an hour but you somehow have the only 11 year old Lithium battery on the planet that works as good as new with no charge loss.

Hopefully they do. The controller is one aspect that is criminally neglected in terms of R&D in general.

Yup

My brother handed down a iPad to my parents.

It took forever to charge and drained really fast, as what happens with every Lithium-ion battery at the end.

I did a trade in this year and got them a brand new Ipad for 90 euro. Charges very fast, stays charged for very long.

I'm glad third parties are making good use of the DualSense features, they're great and it's nice that the PS5 had a pack-in game that showed everything off. The adaptive triggers are definitely a great addition, it's being put to good use even in early games. It would be nice for this to be standardized across all platforms. The haptics and additional ambient sounds provided by the surprisingly good quality speaker are great for immersion too.

As for Xbox, before anything else they need to fix their bumpers and analog stick alignment. I can't believe all they did was add grip to the triggers to try and mitigate accidental bumper presses.

@stacweed11: It's configurable, you can disable it or control the strength of the triggers/haptics, so it's never forced at least

@girlusocrazy I'm not saying Sony is forcing it, I was trying to say for Xbox owners, it would be nice to have the option for haptic controllers. I actually like the haptics

Yes but they both need to pass manufacturers for better quality control. If not, more games need to program for the Xbox controller's rumble triggers.

I've been using the PS5 controllers since launch and frankly I see nothing that makes me say it's a gamer changer. The stick layout is still preferred on my Xbox controllers and I love the fact that I don't have to worry about charging my controller due to inactivity like I do with my PS5. I had to purchased a 2nd controller just for that purpose alone as well as for those long gaming sessions when my built in battery will die.

Options are always better than none. Batteries of my choosing>>>>>>>>built in

Does TESLA use AA batteries, dude? No. They're using rechargeable batteries, we're not in 1986. The day Tesla begins using AA batteries is the day i will believe in your "options". Microsoft is milking you lems with old tech.
