@Martin_G_N: Well, to be honest, I made that price up. Nobody knows what Skylake X will cost yet (not that you even need a top end HEDT processor for a console anyway). You could easily get away with much cheaper Intel CPU. But you are still right, they are more expensive than AMD. Though mostly due to complacency.
However, with AMD Ryzen out, Kaby Lake-G *might* be more competitively priced with AMD's similar APU offerings. Who knows. Problem is nobody yet knows how good (or bad) they are.
Qualcomm would be an interesting pick. But the problem with that is Sony would then probably have to buy and integrate a separate GPU solution if they wanted to seriously compete in the 4K market. With AMD, Nvidia, and maybe even Intel now, that wouldn't be an issue.
Nvidia's Volta architecture is coming out soon and with that means new mobile stuff. With the Switch working out so well for Nvidia, maybe they will decide to go back into the console market a bit more whole-heatedly and make something custom.
