<7 = 1 = avoid
7 = 2 = good
8 = 3 = great
9 = 4 = amazing

I've seen people petition for a 5 point scale before. Never a 4 pointer.
But I say a 10 point scale hits the sweet spot; enough gradation in quality evaluation without getting to cluttered or convoluted as a 100 point scale does.
Just remove the scores and have written/video reviews.
This, people have a tendency to compare unrelated games because of scores, also scores don't always represent the review itself. You can have a really glowing review that mentions no issues, then it gets a 6 or 7. Someone may pass on the game if they look at the score, but if they read the review they might find it is exactly want they want.
The best reviewers will explain exactly why they are giving it a certain score, but often that isn't the case
numbers have been blown out of proportion. Gamespot should do like Giantbomb and do 5 stars scales. Or, my favorite review system ever--old school EGM where they had 4(or was it 5?)people review the game, and perhaps have one of the reviewers do the main review.
Even oldschool Game Pros happy face system was better than the joke that is gamespot.
...Classic Game Room is back on Youtube. I never really cared for him before but I like his new reviews.

if you think 100 point scale is convoluted then you're reading too into it

What I mean is that a difference between say, 8.7 and 8.6 is so miniscule, it's not worth deliberating on. Hell in most cases a .3 difference is just as miniscule and pointless. A scale of 10 provides enough quality range where there's a discernible measure between each gradient.
It doesn't matter to me. Reading the review matters more to me. By the time I get to the numerical score, I pretty much know whether I'm buying the game or not regardless of the score.
I allways thought the 5 point system was the best. 1 not even worth a mention completely broken/unfinished/unplayable etc.. 2. Playable but not a good game has many flaws and issues. 3. Playable, fun, but nothing more or better then all ready on the market (average) 4. Good game high quality and highly enjoyable not many issues. 5. AN almost perfect game.
@jun_aka_pekto: I'm the same. I read about 3 reviews and make my own decision. I don't get the hive mind attitude towards scoring systems for games. I wouldn't let someone decide what food I will enjoy, the same goes for the games I play.
i want the 0.1 back
I want the 100 point scale back.
I will not allow this!!! :P:P
No, they should switch to a "write accurate and insightful reviews that reflect the actual quality of the games" system.
As far as scores, I thought the .1 scale was better.
I hate gamespot`s reviews. I always have to add 1-3 points to figure out the true score unless it`s a nintendo game, then I minus 1-5 points.
So you hate their reviews because they don't align with your bias?
A 5 star system is best imo.
1 star = Bad. Avoid.
2 star = Meh. Not awful but probably boring. Play if you want.
3 star = Good. Solid and enjoyable. Worth playing.
4 star = Great. Loads of fun, you should play.
5 star = Awesome. Amazing game, you must play.
That'd probably translate into:
9 - 10 = 5 stars
8 - 9 = 4 stars
7 - 8 = 3 stars
6 - 7 = 2 stars
0 - 6 = 1 star
i want the 0.1 back
I want the .5 back
that is the best system followed by the .1, then the 100.
the 5 star is the worst of them all.

you do realize a 100 point scale and a 10 point scale are pretty much the same, right?
Check rotten. One is 100 system %, other is 10 star system.

huh. that's so weird that 10 stars out of 10 is 100 percent, eh?
probably just a coincidence.

A rating system out of ten is the same as one out of 100. You just move a decimal point
GOD NO. WORST THREAD EVER.
If anything, bring back the 100 point scale, aka 1-10 with 0.1 increments.

Not a very intelligent comment. You do realize on a 10 point scale a game might simply get a 9/10 when on a 100 point scale it would get 97 or 98?
Typical 97-98/100 game: GTA III, Metroid Prime, Halo, Half Life.
Typical 9/10 game: Call of Duty games, Fifa 10-14, Dirt 2.
Do you think games like COD, Fifa, Dirt etc are as good as classics like MP, Halo, HL, pretty much all Metal Gears, etc?
Cause that's what a 10 point scale does.
5 point scale is even worse, then you'd put a game like MGS4 / LoZ: OOT and Final Fantasy XIII in the same boat...
Why... 100 point scale was the best and most hilarious for this forum. Only thing this would do is lower the metacritic scores more

or it could get a 9.7 which is the same thing
Think it through next time
