The 1998 Unreal was Epic's answer to Quake and was unanimously praised by critics back then and it has been such a hit. I wonder if Epic could resurrect the series and I think if Microsoft opted for 3rd party exclusivity, it could surely become another hit given their reputation for Gears of War and Bulletstorm, and the fact it's an FPS game, right? I'm not obviously talking about spin-off Unreal Tournament games...

It wouldn't be Unreal if it wasn't the fast paced twitch shooter like the original. Like their last game that came out, it lost it's step by trying to appeal to the masses.

If you really want to play Unreal, there are still U2000 matches you could get into now.

I think it's safe to say another Unreal game will come when Unreal Engine 4 is around.

When did skill equal running around, shooting $#!+, and jumping a lot?

It'll be very challenging to provide gamers with that same experience the first Unreal provided. Remember the mystery of the ship, the creepy enemy, and then emerging from the wreckage into a vast, lush environment? That Unreal game is a special game.

When the majority of gamers thought that being lame asses couldn't be a viable way to play.

Unreal cannot succeed in the modern gaming industry. It's a skill-based game, and skill shooters just don't exist any more. It's all about making sure the player can play the game however they like, rewarding them for taking part, drip-feeding unlocks to keep them compulsively playing.

While you are right, to say games like Battlefield are not heavily based in skill is wrong.

Of course, but the unlocks are just there to keep people playing to get everything. And while they're skill based, they're far easier to get into and kill people than Unreal

Nope call of duty and halo sounds simplistic lets hold W for forward on the keyboard and hold shift for sprint REAL SKILLS not. mastering dodge jumping in unreal is alot harder which can be used to move faster.

Been playing unreal since the 90s and it's still difficult for me to ''DODGE JUMP'' effectively using the A button left strafe using my ring finger because it's not the strongest finger i have lol.

Put it this way dodge jumping to the right with the d button with your index finger is a ''f*ckload easier* than dodge jumping to the left with your ring finger a button.

most effective way to dodge left in unreal would probley be by taking your middle finger off the forward key and then press down on the left key it's kinda hard doing it with you holding the forward run key.

Yes but only if it were a PC exclusive. UT3 was wasted potential and not meant to be played with a controller.

That depends. Flying vehicles and controlling tanks properly is a skill set of it's very own. Maybe not so much the tanks, those are fairly easy, but flying the choppers and jets well take a lot of practice and skill-evolving.

It should only be resurrected if it is to come back as a PC exclusive, and it has no modern touches.

Maybe they could do a remake sporting the latest Unreal Engine (4) and release it as a downloadable title.

Considering Unreal 2 was painfully mediocre, I don't see it getting a "proper" successor.

The Unreal brand also lost some appeal among gamers.

Are you living in a parallel world were PCs don't exist? The entire Counter Strike franchise, one of the most popular shooter franchises on Earth (given the fact that it's ben played continously for over 12 years and 1.6 is stillthe most played of all games on Steam), disagrees with your statement.

And he was talking about Unreal, the Crysis of '98, not Unreal Tournament which is still played to this day (900-1300 people online, 1000-3000 servers 24/7; Not bad for a 13 year old arena shooter).

That's what they should be making. Something like Rayman Origins in content and graphics.

Remake the original, and make the weapons and gunplay better. The whole 'prison ship crash landing on an alien planet' idea was pretty cool. Unfortuantely the weapons and enemies were very weak and uninspired, respectively.

Why not both.

Unreal singleplayer with UT multiplayer.

Built on UE4

And they should make it for PC, 720 and PS4
