Poll Should Castlevania follow in Devil May Cry's steps? (13 votes)

Much like Devil May Cry, Castlevania was rebooted. A emo Scottish man seeking revenge, Jean Luc Picard etc...

The game was praised, but it's second entry (technically third), received mediocre reviews, considered a failure.

Devil May Cry was also rebooted, in 2013 with Team Ninja at helm. It received positive critic reviews but fans bitched.

But, Capcom just ditched all that, announcing Devil May Cry 5.

With the critically praised Netflix show loosely using Castlevania's original plot-line, with Ayami Kojima's art-style, Konami released Castlevania Requiem for undeserving PS4 users.

Should Konami just ditch the reboot and do a loose continuation of the original story with Ayami Kojima distinct art-style?

Metroidvania as a genre needs a break.

A long break.

I wouldn't bet on it, Lords Shadow trilogy barely happened and as you said, didn't end well due to the mixed reception of LOS2. That reboot had the blessing of Hideo Kojima as well, it was basically, as I understand it, the last attempt at resurrecting the Castlevania franchise on console, no pun intended.

Now, the only thing I can count on Konami doing properly is supporting the Backwards compatible catalog, and if we get a Castlevania game it will probably be a mobile game. Never say never, but unless a 3rd party is involved, I think Konami is done with new Console Castlevania games. All I want from them now is that they fully support the XOne BC program.

I don't see it happening anytime soon (or if ever), but I want a continuation of the Iga storyline, specifically a Metroidvania starring Julius Belmont and Alucard during the Battle of 1999. For those that don't know, it's supposed to be the game where Dracula is finally defeated, which then leads to the Soma Cruz stuff in Aria and Dawn of Sorrow.

Sega does both, makes video games and pachinko machines at the time. There's no reason why Konami can't do both.

I think that first and foremost Konami needs to put out a very well done and comprehensive Castlevania collection for all current platforms.

Catlevania took the GOW approach with Lords of shadows and it was great.

So why not.

Abso-fucking-lotely... but will they? LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Pachinko games make too much money to care.

Igarashi never got to build the Battle of 1999, and they spent far too much time building up to it, they forgot to actually do it.

Konami should revive the franchise on Switch in the same way they revived it on the DS. There is a proven market for handheld 2D Castlevania.

They also treat their employees like shit (circa 2014) and drove away all of their talent. I don't think Konami execs are seeking to please us 'core' gamers anymore. They want the cash from the mobile market (and pachinko machines). It's a sad and painful reality: no more gradius, zone of the enders, etc.

They should stay 2D or 2.5D it doesn't work for castlevania as a series. Slain has given 2D a resurgence this generation.

True. They just don't care about video games anymore. I thought they'd at least keep PES around, but they've even reduced the funding for that and are cheaping-out on the licenses, allowing FIFA to monopolize the market.

Castlevania is my favorite series of all time. That being said, I have no faith in Konami to continue supporting their beloved series with AAA budgets for modern consoles. I wish the creative team behind the 2018 reboot of God of War would take a crack at Castlevania.........I can dream
