Only if you sign up for a large number of them or don't pay your bills on a timely fashion.

It actually helps build up your credit rating a lot to have a few credit cards and to pay them on a timely fashion, which is very easy to do since you can set up automatic payments directly from your bank account.

If you plan to buy a house someday, you will need to build up your credit rating. It's actually a good idea to get a few credit cards and to pay them regularly.
