Seems to be getting a slightly better reception than 3. They done a pretty abysmal job marketing this.

Its a mess.
Serious sam has always been terrible Doom rip off where enemies running at you only. barely evolved and feel dated as of today.
Rather wait for Shadow warrior 3.
@ghosts4ever: First/Second encounter are decent. Doesn't really play like Doom, it has interior sections similar to old school FPS, but by and large it stands out by it's huge exterior environments and sheer volume of enemies.
Unfortunately it's shooting in flatscreen is extreamly weak (improved in VR with duel wielding any combo), the levels pad themselves out as much as humanly possible making the player stay in the same combat arena for far too long, and it has cheap shit instant cheap where picking up items 50% of the time spawns in enemies directly out of the players line of sight.
Otherwise, yea, still a good time. Especially in COOP.
3 kinda sucks and this looked troubled from the first trailer. The developers don't seem to comprehend their own franchises strengths.
Its a mess.

why is every fps a rip off from another fps?
why is every tps a rip off of another tps?
why is every open world game a ass creed or far cry ripoff?
games take ideas from other games who cares?
The Last Hope is also pretty good, closer to something like House Of Head but a blast in COOP with a buddy.
Its a mess.

I could only watch two minutes of this, and then the complete shame for Croteam kicked in. Was this a COVID affected project?

I always disliked serious sam but I might play this one tho, frankly to me it looks like an amazing game, is this in vr?
@commander: The originals are yes, 1/2/3 and Lone Survivor is a VR build game. They are on sale a fair bit.

yeah but those games are old, isn't there a game called last hope as well
Like, yea, 2 posts above.
Not OG (as in OG) games, those are the remasters, they hold up pretty well visually thanks to strong art-direction. Looks better than SS3's COD levels.
I'll pick it up, I enjoyed SS3 in co-op and this looks to be similar.
not expecting an amazing experience, just a fun fast-paced co-op shooter. Reviews are pretty much as expected
Nah, looks pretty poopy. Like some mod of some game.
Doom Eternal at home. thats what i can say.
or Poor mans Doom Eternal.
I Care:) Will pick it up at some point, if user reviews are bad and complaining about bugs, I’ll probaly wait a bit!
I care, but iv just got back on my computer since being in hospital recovering from viral meningitis. Cant even play any games yet because light is melting my eyes. Im sat here with sunglasses on and a raging headache while reading SW forums.
Get well soon my friend. dont play games till you get fully recovered.

Thank you sir, you are right there I may be pushing myself too hard. The boredom is killing me though.
Serious Sam has always been seriously mediocre. 😉
I never played any Serious Sam games so I'm out of the loop as to what the game is all about lol. And I have no interest playing them.
Ever play Painkiller or Shadow Warrior or hell even as far back as Will Rock?
It's just about having loads of enemies on screen and giving you the means to deal with them.
It's a dumb, silly shooter and I love it.
New in Serious Sam 4 is there are more enemy types, gunplay is improved tremendously and the story is better and funnier than ever.

I don’t think reading cup/ghost threads will help. Lol
@Litchie: Yup, love the enemy design so far.
This isn't like Doom 2016 where every enemy design is literally: oooooh, I know that guy from Doom.
So yeah, like I said: love the enemy design so far. Love their little introductions too. So much character!
Is that a bad thing?
Better than going "that's an ugly ripoff of Doom's monster", imo..
Maybe SS has some other actual cool looking monsters that aren't ripoffs from Doom's, I dunno.. Just thought that was a weird example to call good.

After beating Doom Eternal 3 times in row. this would feel like playing some cheap knock off with terrible graphics and also design.
Is that a bad thing?
Say what now?
I posted my opinion on the enemy designs which I like.
And I said that DOOM 2016 has enemy designs that are all throwbacks to old doom.
Not sure where all these attacks are coming from, tbh.
If you don't like Serious Sam 4 that's fine by me, dude.

I was asking if Doom 2016's designs being throwbacks to old Doom was a bad thing, as I think it wasn't. It was fun seeing new versions of them.
I'm not attacking you, or even SS. Just that particular enemy design you first posted.
The enemy you posted just now looks a shitton better than the first one.

My mistake bro :)
I mean it all comes together when it's all these different enemy types together on screen. It's hard to explain in a single screenshot, hehe.
It's something games like Painkiller, Shadow Warrior 2013 and now Serious Sam 4 do really well I think: they throw all these enemies at you. But thanks to their design and the amazing sound design on display here, it all becomes a brilliant orchestrated dance.
Playing the game on normal right now, and when I come to grips with all the systems at play, then I'll play it again on hard :)

You like Shadow Warrior 2013, you'll like this game.
And no, the game does not look ugly, as long as you have good hardware:

No.

Yea, say that's a pretty accurate description of the series.
Mid tier shooter, not the best, not the worst. A fun but flawed distraction.
Although I think they shat the bed with 3, they really didn't seem to comprehend why people liked the first first/second encounter.
The shooting gallery nature seems to excel better in VR thanks to duel wielding any combo.
@R4gn4r0k: NP at all man, sorry that I came off as rude, not my intention.
Great you like the game. Loved the first Painkiller miself. Not that big on Shadow Warrior for some reason.
Saw lots of Steam reviews on SS4 complaining about the performance, stuttering and whatnot. How's your experience?

I'd like to know this as well. I'm interested in getting the game but if it has crappy performance i'll probably wait a while

About stuttering:
When I first launched the game I decided to take a look in the options menu. I saw that the game defaults to DX11, but also offers the options to select vulkan or DX12 APIs
As I've had great experience with Vulkan in the past I decided to go with that one. It just works tremendously in Wolfenstein's recent games for example.
Ok so first benchmark I ran: full of stuttering.
After some thinking I realised that the API change was the only thing that could've caused it. So decided to switch to DX12: still one big stutter appeared during benchmarking. So DX11 for me is the only one that even works. Weird, I mean they offer the options here, but DX11 is literally the only one that worked reliably. No stutters.
About performance:
Long story short: I was actually thinking about wanting to write a steam reviews. But then what would I do: would I thumb the game up, as I'm enjoying it tremendously? Or should I instead thumb the game down, because the performance is not very good?
It hurts me to say, but yeah, the performance is a major issue. I tweaked settings so much that it is at least playable and keeps above 90fps I'd say 90% of the time, but ... The performance is weird here, as it's not clear what is cause drops. Busy scenes can run good while calm scenes can run awful.
Though the game can look very nice. It just doesn't justify the power it requires from your PC.
Definitely wait for performance patches.
@hardwenzen: Odd to bring up Call of Duty as a series that's evolved. The multiplayer certainly did. But when it comes to SP, it's played almost the exact same as the first title for 15+ odd years now.
The gameplay style is generally similar to Serious Sam in the sense you're basically just shooting a hoard of enemies. The difference between that and SS, is that SS has an enemy hierarchy that require management and mobility where as in Call Of Duty the player plops themselves beyond a wall.
Using footage to illustrate the point of enemy waves of nothing but Beheaded Kamikaze seems disingenuous as well as the game (FE1/2) will throw multiple enemies like a stack of bricks.
This isn't fanboy shit btw, from the first trailer had no interest in this and hated 3, but I think his argument their didn't make much sense.
SP wise Call Of Duty is just of, more so a basic shooter.

you disliked Doom and Eternal but always defend serious sam when later is cheap, knock off version of former actually.
