Series X sells 155K units on launch (sold out) day in the UK, Xbox One sold 150K in 2 days

According to publishers speaking to VGC, Xbox Series X and S sold around 155,000 consoles on launch day, beating the previous record of 150,000, which Xbox One managed in its first two days on sale in 2013.

The UK is Xbox’s second-biggest market outside of the US.

However, Series X/S was still far short of beating the record set by PlayStation 4. Sony’s previous full hardware launch was the biggest in UK history, managing around 250,000 over its first 48 hours.

Before that, the PlayStation Portable (185,000) held the record for the region’s fastest-selling games hardware.

So, good or bad? 155K in a single day is A LOT better than 150K in two. Imagine if they had launch games to go along with the console. I expect PS5 to do 300K on launch day. It also sold out, so good news there at least.

With the amount of people buying consoles to flip em on ebay, these numbers are not accurate

I will say I don't remember this kind of craziness for the Xbox One during it's release due to bad press over the DRM fiasco but those numbers for XSX are really impressive to say the least even though they're hard to find now.

I don't believe Chartz figures, but I'm sure the system is doing OK. I mean, it's not available anywhere in this neck of the woods

I'm digging the real competition MS is giving Sony so far. If it weren't for them, we'd be seeing a $700 PS5 with no games.

And this evaluation is based of off what exactly? Or is it one of those things where it was inaccurate once or at a specific time and its now inaccurate for eternity?

Before I was a mod, Charizard1605 explain it to me that VGChartz are always not accurate and whenever anyone makes a thread on VGChartz alone, they get locked on-sight. Even Tormy can tell you more on this as he knows better then the rest of us why they always suck lol.

The US and UK are the biggest Xbox markets. So it's not all that surprising. The real test would be to see how Xbox perfoms outside of its traditional US and UK markets.

Well MS shit the bed out of the gate with the XB1 and reportedly still sold 50 million consoles, so barring a shot themselves in the foot moment like 2013 it should sell better, having 23 devs with high quality games means it should sell better, depending on the longevity of the gen of course.

Also when it comes to games both MS & Sony have just about every western developed games on their consoles, the biggest disparity is Japan where the PS getting way more games from the East this gen.

But considering that Japan is fast moving away from consoles, the Japanese devs are going to need sales on both consoles in the West more than they ever to survive as most of their games simply won't work on the Switch because its power is well to say the least horrendous.

And to be honest I think the best thing Spencer has done is talk to Japanese devs and get more games on Xbox like Yakuza, Kingdom Hearts etc. Also lets not forget Sony does pay for a lot of Japanese exclusives.

What i did find interesting about your post that there was only 155k units available on day 1 in the UK, seems rather small, does this mean both MS & Sony were lying when they said that covid had little to no effect on production. Yeah 155k units for an entire country just seems low to me.

While I understand sales are important to it succeeding, I still find it hard to care lol.

It's weird to brag about launch sales figures (from any company) when they inevitably will sell however many units are produced. If all the websites are crashing and it's really difficult to get them of course they're going to sell out.

Honestly would have loved them try to produce half a million units at launch at least to help detract scalpers. But I'm sure that could hurt the crazy demand they're getting.

not surprised that X would sell more than the S at launch/preorders, holiday sales might be different when parents go pick up consoles for the kids and price matters more

both PS5 and XBOX will both sell all their limited inventory right now.
