Samus Returns may be getting a Switch port. More 3DS games to follow?

Now that the Switch has become the prime directive for Nintendo: any legacy content from the Wii U or the 3DS is fair game for ports.

I mean, we've seen it with the Switch even in just the past three years, as Nintendo has begun the process of moving over every major first-party title from the Wii U graveyard (RIP) to their next generation. It's honestly kind of staggering that in the end, the Wii U could have very little, if any exclusives (you'll pry Nintendo Land from my cold, dead hands).

In the meantime, internet sleuths have found a possible hint at a potential upcoming port that just makes a whole lot of sense. Over on the official Nintendo site, an image pertaining to a "Super Metroid Skin & Screen Protector Set" that shows someone playing a Metroid title on a Switch has been spotted.

Metroid: Samus Returns, the 2017 title from 3DS, could be in play. Or, of course, this could be a marketing mistake. We've reached out to Nintendo for comment, but don't expect a reply.

Either way, I think it's an interesting prospect and worth looking at. Samus Returns would pretty much port over nicely (amiibo support and all) and give it new life. Plus, it would segue nicely into the next Metroid project. I'm keeping an eye out for this one.

Thoughts, SW? Would you welcome 3DS games being ported to the Switch? I would lol. Would be great to have all great Nintendo games on one system. The possibilities 😮

Pass. I already own it on 3DS and makes no sense for me to rebuy it just to play it on Switch. All I want is Metroid Prime series come to Switch.

I wouldn’t mind that myself. I wanted to get Samus Returns for the 3DS but never got around to it. Would definitely go for a Switch version if that were to become available.

It was really stupid to release that game on 3DS when they did, and really stupid to not have made a Switch port of it already.

So I hope so. Now they only need to put an acceptable price on it, and I might even buy it.

Not interested in Samus Returns. Might consider buying the Fire Emblem games if they ever port those.

When was the last time we heard anything from Nintendo that wasn't a port/emulator/cash grab related? I genuinely don't know anymore. Every single time i see something Switch related, ITS ALWAYS a $60 game from 5-20years ago.

Good game, but not good enough to buy twice. Watch Nintendo charge $60 on top of it too.

I wouldn't get it myself as i have it on the 3DS. But its a good game, certainly recommended.

As for 3DS ports in general...sure what harm? These are usually done by external studios so it wont drop Nintendos own development capacity.

not many games really used the whole dual screen aspect of the system and nothing needs the 3D effect. it's just a nice to have (well i liked it anyway...more so on the new 3DS).

Monster hunter stories would make sense since a sequel is also in the works.

If they port kid icarus uprising and it still fails to sell well then shame on every switch owner who doesnt get it (or doesnt have the 3DS version....so i'm safe :P). Shame! God i want a sequel to that. also contains a belter of a soundtrack. also a switch port would have nicer controls.

I want the Metroid trilogy on Switch too, but it needs to be a better port than Mario 3D fail stars.

This would be cool, but a 2D sequel to Fusion would be better.

If they do that as a physical release, they just need to make some kind of collection to make it worth it, add GBA Fusion & Zero Mission at least.
