Rumor: Xbox Project Scarlett target specs more than double Xbox One X in many areas

According to a new report from Windows Central, Microsoft's next-gen console - AKA Anaconda, the big brother of the Xbox Project Scarlett family - is targeting technical specifications which surpass the capabilities of the Xbox One X by upwards of 50%, and potentially as high as 200%.

The report, which cites "several sources familiar with Microsoft's plans," focuses on a few key components. Firstly, Anaconda is said to sport an eight-core CPU clocked at around 3.5GHz. The Xbox One X also has an eight-core CPU, but a markedly slower one at 2.3GHz. Secondly, where the Xbox One X had 12GB of GDDR5 RAM, 9GB of which could be allocated to games, Anaconda will supposedly "guarantee" 13GB of its 16GB GDDR6 RAM pool for games, with the remainder put towards the operating system. This, at least, lines up with the other Xbox Project Scarlett specs we've heard about already.

The biggest number in the report is also one of the toughest to evaluate. Anaconda is said to boast 12 teraflops of power. For reference, the Xbox One X delivers six teraflops of power, but that's not to say Anaconda will be twice as strong as the One X.

I'll just wait until actual confirmation of things. Given history of things in recent generation, I also think it seems rather unlikely that any console will be able to compare to an actual modern high-end gaming PC. Unless they're willing to have next-gen consoles also have next-gen power draw... like 400-500 watts. I suppose for form factor it may be possible with custom hardware. It is possible to work some magic and fit high-end gaming PC power into a console-sized box... even if it does have some heat issues, but custom hardware and good case design could potentially make it fit and work in a console-size form factor.

My investment in an 8C/16T aka Ryzen 7: 2700X/RTX 2070 is looking better by the day and money's worth spent :)

12 tf on RDNA architecture would be an absolute monster if true.

No reason to buy an overpriced pc when next gen consoles are gonna be the best bang for your buck gaming machines out there

@davillain-: Damn right. Not much out in terms of screenshots, so I went with what was there. RE3 needs the hype!

Kind of pointless spending way more on a high end PC, when it all the AAA exclusives come from Xbox, games are played at the same resolution, Cheating issues continue and unless you want to spend even more then you'll end up with big, ugly much noisier box that needs more care and is more prone to issues.

For the same amount, you could get an Xbox, a Switch and keep the laptop for games like Footy Manager.
Win-Win.

@sealionact: Dude, you can build a nice PC for $600 and not go crazy over the top $1,000 build and get way more out of it then a console will but hey, you get what you pay for in the end. If your okay whatever MS gives you, more power to you.

I don't think that a potato PC will be able to beat consoles at the start of this gen,so getting a PC with better quality will cost you more.

Consoles also always end up being dramatically weaker than the rumors preceding their release suggest. If they're going to cost 400$, you ain't getting the rumored specs, simple as that.

I don't recommend potato PCs just like I don't recommend cheap consoles. You have to pay for quality.

There is no win there. None of those devices compete with the quality of a good gaming PC. Aside from the cheating (which can be an issue on PC), your argument is shit. Besides, I am yet to play a game on PC where cheating is so prominent that I no longer want to play it.

@davillain-: A 600 dollar PC can't handle any more than an X1X, and will still be without the aesthetics, low noise level, reliability, service options, security and hardware (UHD drive).

Saying that it's not worth buying an xbox when you can buy a pc is only really relevant if a pc can match an xbox on all levels, including price.

PC gaming just isn't appealing to all, as you well know, but if it makes people happy then wonderful....its not for me, which explains my response to a call for people to adopt PC on a thread about a console.

This omits the fact that you have access to Xbox games, as well as PC games.

All future xbox games will be on PC, so xbox is pointless.

*I thought the Ryzen X were "unlocked" like the Intel Ks, and I because I had no desire to overclock I chose the non X 2700. I then learned the 2700X is prefered if you don't plan to overclock, and the non X is for people who want to overclock lol.

But coming from an i5 3570k to a Ryzen 7 is god dang amazing, X or no X

I see only couple of possibilities. First is that MS has decided to throw the profitability ratio out of the window to get ahead of Sony. Or these rumored specs are just that.... rumors with flaws ignoring cost and demands on maintaining the hardware.

Even on 7nm+ your still looking at around 55w TDP for the CPU at 3.5ghz boost and for the NAVI gpu, to be at 12 TFLOP(using NAVI performance metrics not GCN) would require some hefty cooling and power. Since even the RX 5700XT with its 9.7 TFLOP has a 220w max TDP. So even with 7nm+ your only shaving that 220w down to ~200w. But a 12 TFLOP NAVI would need more power and cooling than its ~9.7 TFLOP cousin.

Is that the newest release date?

No need to get into 2700X unless you want to overclock, you can still overclock those none "X" just by going to the Bio set and hit boost. Plus, I do more on my PC then just gaming, so I needed more cores/threads and owning 2700X made my gaming station into a gaming/working station I always wanted. All in all, Ryzen 2700X has been a major helpful CPU and AMD didn't let me down either. I'm done with Intel.

You're the one who mentioned "PC" games, so I listed one. The only one misleading here is Cloud Imperium :(

Sounds very good. I’m really hyped for the next gen Xbox console myself and will probably put one on preorder when they become available to do so.

The only problem I see here is those specs been accurate. This gen a 7850 and a Intel low end cpu could land you on PS4 land in 2013,I don't think that will be the case this gen if those specs hold. Thats a big If by the way.

I'm on Team Fake. 12TF is too much for a consumer priced console. Especially since the lower spec console "leaked" specs are 4TF. That seems very silly. That CPU clock speed is horseshit as well. You can't cool that with a console form factor and the TDP would then be far too low. Wake up folks.

I think both MS and Sony are committed to trying to deliver a more powerful console than the other and since neither really knows what the other is bringing it wouldn't surprise me that either will be shooting for the moon. Now, while something like this is maybe possible, possible in that for a price sure it's possible in that sense, but how each company is balancing power and price is really where I think the competition between two will be. Wouldn't surprise me either, with each company committed to trying to deliver a better system and price it competitively too that both might try releasing these systems at an initial loss they can make up losses on later. But, if this is where they're aiming, I am curious where each might think the lowest price they can offer their systems at, and if they're willing to take losses if they feel they need to keep pace with the competition. Neither company seems too keen on showing their cards at this point, I hope in some competitive paranoia they each prepare to offer monster systems at insane prices.

Anyhow, MS seems to be aiming to include the lower spec system next gen for affordability, which makes me wonder how much they'll try selling the beefier one for, will it be like X prices, or phat PS3 price, or more? While I might consider splurging I do have my limits.

Can we have a name and shame thread for morons who think these pieces of plastic are super duper powerful?
