Source: Techtroid (via GoNintendo)

Personally, I still have a bit of negative thoughts on this, but after 64 3D's success in America (in Japan and Europe, it didn't do too well) after Miyamoto's threat to the series, we'll see.

(Oh what I wouldn't give for a new Star Fox, and this one I would LOVE to see Star Wars ROGUE SQUADRON/STARFIGHTER styIe gameplay  )

Thoughts?

I would love to see another Star Fox, but I don't particularly care for Retro Studio's sty|e in their games.

I have faith in Retro, but I don't like Star Fox that much. Unless they did make it like Rogue Squadron, I'd be pretty lukewarm about it.

I'm fine with it if they working on this. I trust them like they did on donkey kong country returns.

i liked Star Fox Adventures the best, but obviously I can see why some people would be dissapointed in it though. I never played the Gamecube flying ones, but I owned 64 (and I own 64 3DS, but have not opened it :P).

Either way, this would be cool to hear. BUT I would prefer a new Metroid, and that seems more likely to me. Plus there is a rumor they are working on that as well, so which one sounds more true?

I think Donkey Kong Country Returns and Mario Kart 7 proves Retro Studios needed to put their share of the series to rest, so I prefer them to work on Star Fox to be honest.

I can see this happening. For it to succeed with the core audience, though, it will need to have solid multiplayer and more depth than past Star Fox games. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up playing a lot like Starhawk.

To be fair, Nintendo's new IPs haven't exactly been the best though. The only new ones I can think of are things like Chibi Robo, the Wii series, Endless Ocean... not really anything worth buying in general. Games like Xenoblade are definitely worth it, and if the reports are to be believed it's been selling well in the US, but it's one of the few games that are really worth getting from Nintendo that isn't a sequel.

I would LOVE just one last rail-shooter Star Fox, even if it is the last one ever made. Be best for Fox to go out in a blaze of glory than to die whimpering. If this is real, I would buy it as long as it's a rail-shooter. Any more on foot, and it's a no go for me.

IF they do make Star Fox, I hope they don't skimp on it. I hope they go all out with an awesome online multiplayer and a lengthy and intense SP. I liked the 64 one, but I expect more today.

Yeah it is hard for me to get super excited over a rail shooter. Star Fox is a good one though, and I think if they have good online MP, I could get pretty excited for it.

People begged for a new Star Fox for ages, and now they complain about this rumor not being about new IPs?

I don't like SF, though.

Coincidentally the ones that weren't rail shooters ended up being terrible.

Here's hoping this will never go beyond just that, a rumor. I want Retro doing their own thing, preferably in the adventure genre like Metroid Prime was but something new. Wasting their time on freakin StarFox while they could create a brand new big IP which Nintendo desperately need imo would really ****.

They should do an adventure game AND a rail shooter. Two different single player campaigns! Plus off line and onlne multi-players. Plus a strategy mode like the DS.

Do as many modes as you can!

Haha no I have not. The framerate issues and such I heard of in MP kinda turned me off.

I dont believe it. Sources seem skeptical and proper Nintendo leaks are very rare. They are usually backed by credible sources too. I want a new SF as much as the next fanboy but I dont see this happening especially with Retro.

Metroid franchise skipped a console generation, then showed up again, created by Retro Studios, and earned it's spot as one of the best games ever made. I've suddenly got unreasonably high hopes for Starfox, it's always been one of my favorite franchises. The real question is what are they going to do with the story after the branching storylines of Starfox Command? Then again, seeing as it's made by Retro Studios, maybe the new game will simply be set between Starfox 64 and Starfox Adventures. ;)

Starfox, and Starfox 64 were rail shooters, Starfox Adventures wasn't originally even a Starfox game, but they still shoe-horned some rail shooter elements into it. Starfox Assault was a true sequel to 64, and while it balanced the amount of time spent on the ground, it still was mostly a rail shooter. The only one that hasn't been a Rail Shooter was Starfox Command.

Shut your mouth. Endless Ocean: Blue World was the best damn game of the entire generation. I couldn't put it down the story was so compelling. (BTW, I'm being completely serious, Endless Ocean, and Endless Ocean: Blue World probably consumed more of my time than any other two games this generation. Mario or Zelda might have them beat, but it would be close.)

That, word for word, is what I thought when I saw that post. Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 are arguably some of the best games ever made, OoT IS arguably the best game ever made. They were all established franchises when they were released. If they were complete newcomers, would that have made them somehow intrinsically better?

Not to mention people usually says new IP like if that would make the game 100% better than anything else, well, that didn't work so well for games like Rage, honestly, i don't have any problems with sequels as long as they add something new or something original, both Metroid Prime and DKCR by Retro did this, so i cannot wait to see what they will be able to do with other Nintendo franchises.
