RDNA 2 acts like RDNA 1 when not using RT cores. This is like RTX 2080 Ti acting like faster GTX 1080 Ti for most current games i.e. RT cores in idle.

Cerney noted during the presentation that due to the heat issues with the PS4 that they made sure that cooling wouldn't be an issue this time around.

I don’t buy playstations so this isn’t an issue for me but if I did? I’d be nervous. My X1X is on most of my awake time at home - especially now being virtually locked indoors. I often fall asleep in front of it too. If there were overheating issues, I’d never turn it on out of fear for my safety.

Like 360's heating issues that was so bad after a law suit, MS had to fix RROD for upto 3 years after time of purchase.

@Sevenizz: It was heat related, that's what would cause the RRoD. Not sure where you heard the ps4 had heat issues because if it did that's news to me, both systems (x1 and ps4) came out of the starting gate with very little in the way of problems. The X1 had a few bad HDMI ports (very minor) and I think the ps4 might have had a few sound output issues (again very minor).

Can't handle all the flops.

I've been lucky and had no issues this generation. I'm interested to see what kind of box Sony go for cooling is essential.

Yeah the consoles got so hot that they unsoldered.

I would rather them just switch off then do damage like they do now.

@ronvalencia: exactly, the PS3 fat went as high as 206watt during games. The PS4 is at a low 140watt. The XsX uses a 315watt power supply, almost the same as the X1X. These heat issues are easily solvable.

It is what it is. As soon as the electric duster I ordered arrives I’m going to clean the PS4 for the first time since I got it close to launch. Runs like a rocket, that’s for sure.

I’ve given it to my sister so it’ll hopefully be running smoother after the cleanup.

Because overheating wasn't an actual issue with the PS4? I mean, a few might have had a problem for some reason, but it wasn't a "known" issue.

As far as rumors go, this one is actually very plausible. As consoles start to approach the power of a low-end gaming PC, they're going to need PC-size cases and cooling solutions.

You're right, because doing so might (you know) be problematic. Because if they did do this they'd probably have to alter planned cooling solutions and case design and probably not have a working final design to show off until they nail down a working solution.

Every cow crying itt just 3 weeks ago was reposting every rumor that magically had the PS5 being more powerful, a 13.1 tflops box, etc, and calling the widely accepted to be credible Github 9.2tf leak fake bullchit as well (which it looks like PS5 was before Sony added its last minute "not boost clock").

Hell, Some cows still dont even accept the rumor of the consumer device form factor being similar to the V-shaped devkit to be true, or at least didnt for a long time because it ran parralell to other unfavourable rumors, that had PS5 being weaker (9.2tf)

Keep this in mind for every cow crying about how this is "fake". They've cried about literally every next gen rumor up to this point regardless of its credibility. Unless it favored Sony.

Just a few months ago, we all heard nonstop about how MS was way behind schedule compared to Sony, and nobody had devkits, knew anything etc. How did any of that turn out. And now Xbox has consumers grade prototypes out in the wild. Not a single cow complained back then.

Sony and Playstation are better all around.....games, smarter hardware, better people/spokespersons, etc. The sooner you understand this the better your life will be. Sony Care, Microsoft Don't.
