Rumor: Playstation event coming next month!

This year is shaping up to be one of the biggest gaming years in history thanks to a hugely promising lineup coming from PlayStation, including God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West. Despite this, in recent years it's been hard to predict how Sony will go about making announcements for its big titles, with showcases ranging from 10-minute State of Plays to 40-minute PlayStation Showcases. A new report from a trusted source has claimed that PlayStation's next event could be coming next month.

Ever since PlayStation first pulled out of E3 in 2019, it's been hard to predict when Sony will make its next big announcements. Recent years have seen some consistency added to Sony's event schedule, with State of Play showcases arriving throughout most of the year, with the company hosting major PlayStation Showcase events in September 2020 and 2021, which are comparable to the E3 presentations it has done in the past.

Journalist Tom Henderson, known for his accurate leaks regarding Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Vanguard, and Halo Infinite, has claimed that he has heard that Sony's next PlayStation event will take place in February. Henderson claims that he has not heard what the scale of the event will be, but that he thinks it could be big. Many games from PlayStation's recent showcases were either absent in 2021, such as Hogwarts Legacy, or haven't received much publicity in a while, such as Ghostwire: Tokyo and Stray, both of which are slated to release within the first half of 2022.

The current rumor is that the next Sony event looks like it could be in February based on this month's media events and past PlayStation dates.

It makes sense that Sony would want to hit the ground running with its approach to marketing what will be the biggest year of the PS5 yet, with not only some major exclusives on the way, but also the PlayStation VR 2, which will likely launch this year with a host of big-name launch titles like Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Despite this, big PlayStation games like God of War: Ragnarok, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Hogwarts Legacy, and the rumored The Last of Us remake will need ample attention to please their fans, so hopefully PlayStation can strike this balance and not focus too heavily on PSVR2 in a way that does its big lineup a disservice.

Regardless, it seems like some sort of event is coming soon for PlayStation fans. Whether this is a Horzion: Forbidden West focused State of Play with some other announcements thrown in or a full PlayStation showcase remains to be seen. Hopefully, Sony starts the year on a strong note.

Makes sense that Sony would have an event next month. Forbidden West is a big title and it's a good opportunity to market the game along with stuff coming up. Thoughts, SW? You think we'll see some megatons here or just a regular State of Play type thing, or nothing at all?

After the last event, its impossible for me to get hyped anymore. They ruined the fun of an event. And even if it does happen, they'll be talking about AssCreed, and i have no intention of even trying that generic trash.

The PlayStation events haven been good since that one in 2015 or so that revealed the final fantasy remake etc… i haven’t watched one in full since. 🥱

What would they show in February that hasn't already been announced? The best thing for Sony is to have an even around E3, even if they don't attend. That's when most people will be watching.

I wouldn't be expecting any megatons to be announced in Feb, makes so sense.

They can announce things whenever they want. The Spiderman 2 trailer from September had more views on YouTube than the Starfield teaser from E3 in the first 48 hours. Heck, they announced Wolverine in September.

Anything is really possible granted, I wouldn't hold my breathe for every event they hold. Chances are we'll just see more Horizon, GT7 and perhaps God of War gameplay.

I mean gussing this even if you have zero inside source is not going out there at all. With Horizon FW and GT7 being only a few weeks apart sony could if anything do a state of play that is just more about those 2 games.

They need to address all these rumors: Killzone sequel, SOCOM reboot, Resistance open world sequel, Twisted Metal game, Sly Cooper 5, The Last of Us Remake coming in 2022, The Last of Us Part 2: Director's Cut, The Last of Us Factions standalone game.

I don't put to much stock into these kinds or rumors or guesses , people have misled before.

But it will be interesting to see how Sony handles everything for the first half of the year. Square apparently wants to show FF XVI in the spring and it's probably close for a Naughty Dog game reveal (possibly multiple). And Helldivers 2 leaked , so there's that too .And PSVR 2 needs a blowout.

• Horizon and GT 7 State of Plays? They probably don't need them given all of the videos/info drops. It's hard to say.
• At least one State of Play for Indies and some Japanese games like always? Seems likely.
• A PSVR 2 blowout? Seems extremely likely , but how and when?
• A Showcase event? - Might be possible. Final Fantasy XVI , God of War Ragnarok + release date , 3rd party games , some new 1st party game reveals

Should they just wait until spring and combine the PSVR 2 event and a Showcase event so more people see the PSVR 2 pitch and games? PSVR 2 blowout + games , Final Fantasy XVI , God of War Ragnarok and release date , 3rd party , and some new 1st party reveals around May ? That would be great imo.

I have no doubt. In fact I think they'll be great games. But that doesn't make them Xbox killers. It just makes them good games. Hope you enjoy them. :-)
