Rumor: Persona 6 to be a PS5 exclusive, P4G to come to PS5/Switch this year

The Persona series has become one of the most popular RPG series in recent years, most recently with the critically acclaimed Persona 5 and subsequent Persona 5 Royal. While developer Atlus has already confirmed that they are working on a sequel title, new rumors indicate that Persona 6 might be a PS5 exclusive game. This is of particular note as Persona 5 was initially released for the PS3 and PS4 back in 2016.

A Persona Game for the Next Generation

The information comes from known Persona leaker and YouTuber NatetheHate, who reveals some key information about the series’ future. Specifically, NatetheHate mentions that it is likely the Persona 6 announcement will happen sometime during the ongoing 25th-anniversary celebration of the Personaseries. In addition to Persona 6‘s PlayStation exclusivity, the leaker also claims that Persona 4 Golden will also come to PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2022.

Back in 2021, developer Atlus already revealed that it was recruiting developers to work on a sequel to Persona 5. As the company is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series, it has also outlined several important announcements over the coming months. Over the past year, it has already revealed various merchandise and ports of past Persona titles. It also recently released Shin Megami Tensei V — another one of their prominent RPG franchises — to critical acclaim.

In other news, Sony released a top 20 list of the most downloaded PlayStation games of 2021. The new Bioshock currently in development is also said to be “surprising but unsurprising” in equal parts.

Oh man, this would be big, big, news, SW. But are you surprised that Persona 6 would be PS5 exclusive? Persona 5 was a Playstation exclusive. As for P4G, that would be great news. It would fit perfectly on Switch, though my favorite will always be the Vita version 😉 Thoughts, SW? Do you think this rumor is likely true?

So excited. I only beat Persona 5 on hardest difficulty last year and not sure why I waited so many years to play it. I miss that old school tactical style turn based RPG with dungeon crawling.

Atlus is notorious for delaying their games to hell and back. Just look at how long it took them to do Persona 5, plagued with delay after delay. You might as well be thinking about retirement by the time a Persona 6 teaser trailer comes out.

Persona 5 was brilliant. I'm not normally that into JRPGs but thoroughly enjoyed that one. Definitely looking forward to Persona 6.

I hope Sony is paying a handsome fee for Persona 6 exclusivity, but I've heard past games were locked down with simply providing marketing support. I would at least hope a PC port is considered or I'd be pretty baffled by Sega's strategy with the game. P4G going to Switch is good though, better late than never.

Exclusivity is dumb. Most likely bc they are not very adept devs and releasing on multiple platforms would take them a long time but they need a payoff sooner than that bc the money ppl said so. Persona is art, okay - so we forgive the limitations of the dev team.

At least Persona games aren't performance hogs and will run well no matter where they are stuck.

Well, even if it's true, it's not really that surprising. Persona has always been a PlayStation exclusive for whatever reason. Though it looks like atlas is shifting that strategy a bit, by releasing persona 4 on the switch. But p4g on switch or even ps5 is all but useless. Atlas already released the version on pc...you can buy it off steam just like I did for $20. It's 4k version too so basically the definitive version. Knowing how developers work, the game will sell for $50 on switch, just another way to milk the fan base with a 10 year old game.

Since I'll be getting the deck, I'll be playing p4g on that when I get it.

On a side note, Sega is probably thinking hard about releasing more persona games on the switch. The fact that smtv sold 850k copies on the switch in 2 months means the newer persona games would probably do well too. But switch hardware is a bit weak, and sony probably locked in an exclusivity agreement.

As for xbox gamers, a few might have liked a game like this, but its still niche so I doubt it.

In the meantime, I await for my one true master moderator Charz to reclaim his throne and tell everyone how great Persona franchise is.

How is this even a rumour?

Everyone predicted that Persona 6 would be announced during the 25th anniversary, and that it would follow the trend of being Playstation exclusive.

Everyone has also predicted that the other announcements would involve ports of older games, since P4G recently went multiplat.

So...it's an obvious prediction to make, and I don't believe there's any actual insight here. I'd be more convinced if the leaker had predicted the non-announcements earlier in the anniversary celebrations, or if the leaker gave specifics like release dates, synopses, etc.

I ran across something that basically stated a podcaster Nate The Hate made this prediction (that Persona 6 would be a PS5 exclusive) without any inside info or anything (probably a general assumption another Persona would be a PS exclusive given the track record). That same podcast got linked onto a Reddit leak thread and here we are. That being said it is a very probable assumption that doesn't need a crystal ball. But there doesn't seem to be anything to back the claim up.

I'd like to think Sega/Atlus would someday see the potential for the series to take off even stronger by making it available on more systems... then again might be wishful thinking, and I have been wanting that for over a decade now. Best they've done is less interesting spin-offs on other consoles and just Persona 4 Golden going to PC. Not sure today's Sega would be any different, but I'd like to hold out hope.

@SolidGame_basic: Persona is not that big of a franchise. But, Sony would be smart to make it exclusive, considering they just lost all Activision games, including future CoD.

Did MS confirm that COD will be exclusive to Xbox and PC or are you just speculating?

Good to hear Persona 6 is coming but do not care about exclusivity. Caring about exclusivity is for spoiled three year olds.

Would definitely like this game to be multi - like all other games.

Microsoft, though greedy beyond belief, made its name selling software on all platforms. It should remember its roots.
