Rumor: Persona 5 finding a new home...

...on Game Pass, presumably on Xbox One and Series S|X, hopefully PC too.

This buzz is coming mostly due to Twitter activity from Windows Central writer and Xbox insider Jez Corden responding to someone's Tweet about wanting a Persona game on Xbox and Jez responded with a simple smiley emoji, and everyone treating it like a wink-wink.

We've seen Xbox playing the cryptic tease moments before announcing Outriders would release on Game Pass, so hopefully there is confirmation of Persona coming to Xbox soon. Considering MS has been on a roll lately, this would keep their momentum moving in right direction.

Though I do doubt somewhat Atlus could just get this game out there. They don't seem to do anything fast. They tease teasers that are months away. They are still working on the Switch Shin Megami Tensei game they announced 4 years ago.

I would like Persona 5, but I'd also really love re-releases of Persona 3 and 4. Considering Microsoft has made efforts to get loads of Yakuza and Final Fantasy content ported over to Xbox and inckuded in Game Pass, hopefully Xbox gamers get more than just Persona 5.

Oh man that would sure be something if it were to come to Xbox. I’d definitely buy it myself.

Would add to the already impressive variety of games on Game Pass.

Game Pass would be great, I want to play it but it's the kind of game I don't feel like buying because there's too much grinding involved and I probably won't finish it. At the same time so many people I trust recommend me to not miss it. So yeah, bring it to GP.

There's also rumours regarding FFXV remake but I honestly think both that and P5 are just that, rumours.

@lamprey263: yeah i remember playing p4g in vita before and it was the best experience i had on that console. though i enjoyed p5 on ps4, still part of me feel something is missing. i prefer to play slow pace game mostly RPG on switch which requires alot of playtime. p5 is free on psn plus but i wouldnt bother going through it again. if it comes to switch il give it another go.

As much as I love being spoiled by Persona exclusivity, I would be happy to see the franchise reach new heights and be as big as Final Fantasy. Switch port please lol.

Granted I do find certain parts of these games annoying depending on point in story or calendar, when it gets too much on rails in progression and it drags out for hours. These games are best when the player has freedom to use the day as they please.

All jest aside, If Persona 5 is getting the vanilla version, I doubt it’ll cause a fuss but if it’s the Royal version, this will be a hit on GP & on PC if this is true. I would like to think there's no reason why it wouldn't be Royal if I'm being honest about it, but then I remember that Atlus is the same company that announced/released the original version of Catherine for PC when Full Body was already a thing.

I loved the game so much I double dipped and bought the Royal edition and played it all over again. I'll buy it again if it comes to Steam. The more people who get to enjoy it the better. Haters can simply ignore it and move on.

Personal has always been weird to me and not really my thing. I don't understand why it's so popular, but I'm happy for those that are excited about this news.

I am more bothered about why Atlus won't release Shin Megami Tensei V to other platforms, but only on the Switch.

@xantufrog: The Palaces are redesigned and have extra challenges in them. There are two new characters, one of which will spawn an extra Palace and gameplay beyond the end of previous game

I am happy for it to be multiplatform as long as I can play it on Playstation.

I do not agree with exclusives or companies buying up studios to make multiplats exclusive.

The changes in mechanics and having more free time in general invalidates the original. Persona 5 Royal totally blows the vanilla out of the water. Persona 5 Royal is basically just Persona 5, but with extra content. It’s not like a GOTY edition though, the extra story and character content you get in Persona 5 Royal is simply unavailable to Persona 5 players. Additionally, all the DLC that you bought for Persona 5 needs to be bought again for Persona 5 Royal, since they didn’t include that in the game. There are a number of quality of life improvements that certainly make the whole game a bit better to play. Things like feedback in certain places, some slight improvement and added variation in level design, and a certain procedural generated dungeon that has a bunch of things added to make it less of a drag, and much more. Plus, the content and endings from Persona 5 are still there as well (or at least, I think they are) so you would not be missing out on any ending either as far as I know.

Even if you disregard the quality of the added content, the quality of life improvements are pretty significant and numerous and those alone would make it much better to buy Royal over the vanilla version of the game. That said, if you haven't played the vanilla version yet, do not play it. Just play the royal version if you can. If you are planning to get PS5, just get it for that unless the royal version comes to PC/GP.

Yea, if you're going to get Persona 5, get the Royal version.

I think vanilla P5 will be a massive mistake.

Royal fundamentally improves the narrative and gameplay that vanilla belongs in the trash.

P5R is like the Zac Synder's cut of Justice League compared to the original.

Well, it is almost a year since the release of Persona 5 Royal, so it could be it was a year exclusive, yet Atlus is really weird, let's not forget that Persona 4 Golden was rereleased only on PC, which as i said is weird as hell, so anything can happen.

@davillain-: didn't know that about P5R, that it gives players more freedom, that was probably my one big criticism of these games when they send you on the scheduled story bits that restricts or advances time past moments you'd have freedom do to certain things

I really want to play Persona 5 on PC so hopefully the rumours are true. I'd much rather purchase the game on Steam but if that's impossible, Game Pass will suffice.

The game is quite old at this point, I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t come to Xbox and PC. The more people who can play a series, the better.

Just adding to the Vanilla versus Royal discussion...did anyone else feel like P5R had much worse pacing?

P5R adds tons of extra social scenes and many additional 'wandering around Tokyo' segments that didn't exist in the original game, which increased the gaps between major story points and threw off the flow of the game. The there's the new semester, which is interesting by itself but feels like a huge narrative lull after the climax of P5.

I don't know...it wasn't as bad as P4G, which revealed 'the villain behind the villain' about five times in a row during the late game bonus content. But it was still a bit strange to have the story climax 2/3rds of the way through P5R, and then have a quieter ending 20-30 hours later.

P5R would be a day one purchase for me on Steam. They should release the entire Persona series on PC, and not just P4. Alas, I doubt this will happen. Or it will take them 1000 years to do.

Given P5S/SMT3/P4G, there's clearly a draw for Atlus, so I wouldn't be surprised. Hopefully it's P5R and hopefully it'll come to Steam as well... I'll happily purchase the game again to show support.

@robbie23: hell, I thought it was a wasted opportunity not to port Persona 3 & 4 onto 7th gen systems when they should have, while people were waiting and underwhelmed with FFXIII

Loved P5R on PS 4 , 'd again get it on PC :)

Its not free as you need to pay for PS+ to access it.
