Poll Rumor: at least 38 N64 and 52 Genesis titles coming to Switch online! (22 votes)

This will be true! 55%
This will be false! 45%

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/10/rumour-switch-online-datamine-uncovers-plans-for-at-least-38-n64-games-and-52-sega-genesis-titles

Nintendo yesterday launched its 'Expansion Pack' service for Switch Online. It contains nine N64 titles and 14 Sega Genesis / Mega Drive games - so what's on the horizon beyond these initial offerings?

While Nintendo has teased a handful of games coming to the Nintendo 64 service in the near future like The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and F-Zero X, there is apparently a lot more on the way. According to dataminer MondoMega, there are "at least" 38 N64 games and 52 Sega Genesis / Mega Drive games planned for the paid subscription service.

Mega Drive proved to be even more interesting. At least 52 here! pic.twitter.com/sjVw5SovJZ— MondoMega (@Mondo_Mega) October 26, 2021

The same dataminer also notes how more platforms beyond these two are likely to show up in the future. Some of the previous platforms rumoured for the service include Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles.

"and if you're still questioning additional NSO platforms beyond these two, look at the first number of the game IDs for each platform. N64 is 3, MD is 5; SNES was 2, you can figure out what that means."

What do you think, SW? Will this happen? And will Nintendo ever let us just buy these games lol.

I don't doubt it. The problem is it's a question of when.

Nintendo would NEVER be that generous but, I could be wrong. Needless to say, there are better legal ways to play these old games versus subscription model.

Well that could potentially be good however it also depends on what games they are and how well they run.

Oh good. I can't wait to see how many of them are "special" versions of Super Mario 64. I mean, if Gradius can get two Specials, just think how many iterations they can come up with for Yoshi's Story and Ocarina.

SEGA Mega Drive Classics available on Nintendo Switch and other consoles also has 52 games. Gee, I wonder if it's just a coincidence the games that will be released on Switch will also number exactly 52?. Also the Mega Drive classics on Steam which you can get on sale for like $10 includes 58. I also have a 2.4ghz 6 button controller officially licensed by Sega that cost me $35, not $60 for a 3-button with zero advanced features.

Someone explain to me again why I should give a shit about the Sega stuff coming to Switch when it's already there, and already inferior to other options?

Also, Nintendo has already listed the 18 N64 games coming to Switch. No Diddy Kong's Racing, no Perfect Dark, no Goldeneye, no Conker, no Rogue Squadron, no Goemon, No Pilotwings 64 (which I think Nintendo actually owns). It's mostly just the same rehashed N64 crap we always get. Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Dr Mario (the NES version is better btw).

I had a funny dream last night. In it, the next switch apparently had the same power as the ps5. It was lower than the XsX but apparently it was around the power of the ps5, which is still great. But even in the dream, I said to myself thats BS, nintendo will never create a system thats not 2 gens behind.

As for this thread about 38 n64 games and 52 sega games, nintendo aren't that generous, so I wouldn't count on it. You have to consider that this service costs $50 per year. Its not that much, so theres only so much you can expect from it. Nintendo might have a subscription service in the future similar to gamepass where the release hundreds of games, mostly older and never new first party games. Even that is a stretch though, because unlike other console manufacturers, their consoles don't improve all that much going from one gen to the next. So supersmash bros on the wii u and the wii looks identical on the switch.

@eoten: While there will almost certainly be a great deal of overlap, they've already proven that they won't be identical. I mean, where are "Castlevania: Bloodlines," "Contra: Hard Corps," "Ecco the Dolphin," Strider" and the almighty "Musha" on the Genesis Collection?

Are there actually 38 good N64 games? I wish they’ll make a new F-zero instead.

The question is ... if true, how long will it take to fill them in ? because if they are going to launch 1 N64 game per month with 2 Genesis games, then this is beyond awful (even more so than what it is now)

Well if they are aiming for the same level of quality i don't see why they couldn't just pump the whole N64 library up there all at once.

Nintendo is really making their customers out to be suckers.

The rate at which Nintendo trickles out games to their service this would be their 10 year plan but even then they most know that's shooting for the moon for them.

Lol. I assume you are one of the people who already bought all these games separately on Nintendo's previous virtual console offerings, which they have since nuked. So I trust your calculation.

Its using an emulator, they can put the stuff day one lmao. Drip feeding, the usual Nintendo shit.

Oh well non of my concern didnt grow up with N64 and have no attachment to the games, no reason to tolerate dated gameplay due to nostalgia.

It looks like N64 emulation on Switch is actually pretty bad. Laggy, lots of input latency, missing features, and trying to play it online over Nintendo's online infrastructure is going to be a lesson in aggravation. N64 emulators aren't good enough to run smoothly on Switch hardware it seems. You're better off using the ParaLLEl core on Retroarch for best results. N64 on Switch will barely be playable and as I mentioned in an above post, the Genesis stuff is already available as a 1-time purchase on any console or PC already.

I'm not really interested in too many N64 games to the point I'd pay a subscription fee for them. Vectorman on Switch would be pretty fun, though, and any graphical improvements or touch ups would be appreciated lol

That stuff was already on the Genesis Mini, all of it. Ecco is on the PC version, Contra Hard Corps is available on Steam along with OG Contra, Super C, Cotra III Alien Wars, and more on Steam in the Contra Anniversary Collection. And Castlevania Bloodlines is available in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection along with Castlevania I, II, III, IV, Belmont's Revenge, and Kid Dracula. Strider is $1.99 on Capcom Arcade Stadium on Steam.

Contra Anniversary Collection, Castlevania Anniversary Collection, and Capcom Arcade Stadium are all also available on Switch.

@girlusocrazy: @sakaixx: No doubt Megaman Legends on N64 wasn't suited for that kind of game, but it does in fact kinda skirt around the rights to the game cause for some reason, Capcom is holding the rights from PSN meaning it's hard to find the game as it is. I only have Megaman Legends 2 on PSX, Megaman Legends on N64.

Based on how the current N64 games are performing, I don't even want to imagine what F-Zero X will look like.
