From Eurogamer

'Finnish arcade game specialist Housemarque (Nex Machina, Resogun, Super Stardust) has properly thrown the sheet off new PC game Stormdivers, having revealed the name and multiplayer intentions earlier in the year.

We now know for certain Stormdivers will be a battle royale game - a third-person science-fiction battle royale game, although today's announcement doesn't say for how many players. We know it will have character classes with different abilities, will have vehicles, and will have player-versus-environment cooperative content as well as player-versus-player battles.

Exactly which classes, abilities and PvE missions the game will have wasn't detailed, but we can see glimpses in today's new trailer. We can see what appears to be stealth as well as huge boosted jumps, dashes and deployable wall-like shields. There doesn't appear to be crafting, but the announcement mentions "exotic" loot so that element of the typical battle royale experience will be in, as will a storm, albeit a recurring storm of some kind. It sounds as though Stormdivers will entice you to dive in and out of the storm for the greatest rewards, hence the name, I suppose.'

Surprising!

Just for all the niegh-sayers out there who read, "battle royal" and immediately started hating... Housemarque has quite possibly the best stable of highly polished and incredibly fun arcade style games in the medium.... Their games are never a miss. Housemarq makes actual day 1 games....

There's gonna be so many Battle Royale games they're gonna start playing Battle Royale with each other. Radical Heights being the first casualty I see.

Just what I always wanted in a Battle Royale game , people warping. What a great mechanic in shooters.

And it looks like they have some other great mechanics - Invisibility , erecting walls , storms that will kill you , and possibly one hit kill swords !

I bet that "gamers" who keep bitching about not being enough variety in gaming now and the amount of "movie games" never even paid attention to Housemarque who made games full of pure gameplay bliss. Since their games were not bought by anyone now they have to try and follow the next popular gimmick to see if they don't go broke. That's why my impression is that a good part of the gaming community are a bunch of hypocritical crybabies.

I love Housemarque and I got into this project's alpha when it was unknown what it was. As soon as I knew I was a playing a BR game, I was extremely dissapointed. Housemarque did amazing arcade games, then they said the arcade genre is dead and wanted to do something else. I got excited by the possibilities. Then I saw they're working on a BR game. Easily the biggest dissapointment of the year.

There are literally hundreds of PC games released every month. Its impossible to keep up, so why this one?

I was bummed out when these devs announced they would no longer be making the arcade style games that they loved... and would focus on a more popular genre.

I wish them luck, I’ve enjoyed their previous games. They should make the Battle Royale part free to play.

Doesn't matter.

Saying Battle Royal is the same as saying like Dark Souls. It just annoys people and it is planted in their brain as a negative.

I liked Grid before they called Grid 2 the "cod of racing games"

Sad to see them abandon making those cool arcade style games and chasing these shitty fads instead.

@bussinrounds: shame not enough people bought those cool arcade games to make it worthwhile making them.

Looks like they're hoping on the trend since their last few games sold poorly.
