Resident Evil 8 is no longer a cross gen title according to leaks.

Resident Evil 8 is set to launch next year for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Capcom also intended to launch the game on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but those plans have changed, according to video game leaker Dusk Golem.

Dusk Golem said that Resident Evil 8 was planned as a cross-gen game as recently as four months ago. The decision to focus on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X was due to a graphics overhaul that that is still in the works and resulted in longer loading times for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Seems like those SSDs are really going to make a difference.

Makes sense. More and more we are going to be seeing next gen games that are only possible on next gen consoles.

I actually just kind of figured it was always going to be a next gen title myself so this doesn’t surprise me at all.

Meanwhile XSX "exlusives" will be tied up to the platter HDD, jaguar core, and 1.3TF Bonaire😂

Advantage of PC. no need to spent money on next gen console at launch when they cost same as kidney.

I'm actually little surprised. But at least we know that the game will not be downgraded for the older consoles so Capcom can make the game at its full potential. The question is will the PS5 and XBOX Series X have a large base by 2021 so that Resident Evil 8 will sell well? Ether way I'm getting it for PC.

It should be noted that the word “tentative” was in brackets next to 2021 so people should probably be prepared for a likely 2022 release, possibly early 2022 though.

That equates the load times being trash in general.

I was just about to say this. It's embarrassing. They're gonna be hamstrung for at least a year with this stupid strategy.

I'm actually glad to hear this. It may already suffer a bit as it was slated for current gen also, but this will give them a chance to push for a better version of Resi 8 overall.

Trying to hard? I'm not trying at all show me better graphics on these character models I would love to be proven wrong that this is just some how YouTube compression yeah right.

@subspecies: So do these same devs have to build an infinite number of ports for PC games? Last I checked PC games still look better than console counter parts and run on a variety of PC builds.

The nextgen consoles are stronger in general so i doubt the decision to halt or delay the PS4 and X1 versions are due to only the SSDs.

@i_p_daily: yup pretty much. Hermits with potato PC's with platter drives hold back the master race. Doesn't matter if you have a god tier PC those long elevator rides will still be there just like your potato brethren. PC games are generally console sloppy seconds at higher res and framerate. Consoles always determine the baseline for gaming graphics, been that way for a while. Every now and then PC gets a game to showcase its abilities but that really hasn't happened since Crysis in 2007.

Why they do that, Next gen console still going to be held back by last gen poor people PCs.

That's why PC games have minimum requirements.

Yikes !!! What the hell is that ??? are those really the models ??? i know the first titles always suffer when the full potential is yet to be shown, but damn ... this looks like an early PS4 title, this is probably the main reason i'm not that excited for this new hardware.

And yes, i'm fully aware this is an screenshot from Youtube, but R&C looks far superior even on Youtube.

Held back by old PC? Yes, but not the same as the base consoles. Those jag cores are literally worse than a super old i3, not joking.

The game looks worse than the RE2 and 3 remakes, so this seems like an arbitrary limitation.

Yeah its a shame a long awaited game is not forced to be on $500+ NExt gen systems.. IF you want a PS5/SXS version. You can upgrade for free. But it absolutely should come out on current gen. Would i play it on a BAse PS4 or Xbox one? absolutely not. But it will run fine on my X.

Cyberpunk is coming out this year. It would be utterly stupid to force people to buy what will be very high in demand and low shipped $500-600 NExt gen systems.

Plus that game was always targeted to the PS4/Xbox gen. It was announced in 2012 for f$%C sake, it was announced even before the PS4/XB1 gen started!

The only reason it's cross gen is because development has taken so damn long. Which is fine if they deliver a great game. But considering it's development, there's no technical reason for it to not be "current gen". They can always enhance the "next gen" definitive version.
