It sounds like Carlos Oliveira will have a bigger role to play in Resident Evil 3 remake than he did in the original game as expected, however indications are, rather than story-paths expanded upon, they will be all but scrapped. Mercenaries mode will also be absent from the game.

Resident Evil 3 will apparently have a heavier redesign than Resident Evil 2, which mostly adhered to the original.

Speaking to OPM, Capcom said the mercenary has "his own interesting section to play through".

Carlos was one of the more prominent characters in 1999 original PSone classic, but he very much played second fiddle to Jill Valentine.

There's no more on Carlos' "interesting section" you get to play through in the remake, but we expect much more hands-on time than the original Resident Evil 3 offered.

Other confirmed changes include no alternative endings for the remake, unlike the original. And Mercenaries mode will not return.

Elsewhere, Capcom said Nemesis is untethered in Resident Evil 3 remake, compared to Resident Evil 2's Mr. X, who was confined to the corridors of the Raccoon City Police Department. Sounds frightening.

In a recent interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu, Capcom said Resident Evil 3 remake features more "rearranged" elements than 2019's updated version of Resident Evil 2.

Carlos is a case in point: he's enjoyed a significant redesign for this year's game, and, according to the Famitsu interview (thanks, Siliconera), his personality will be a bit different: "He'll still be a kind person who cares about the people with him, but he'll also joke around a bit too."

Hopefully it will lead to sequel to RE7 in first person and them stop making 3 hour remakes.

capcom has always been very overrated.

@ghosts4ever: For once, I agree with you about RE7. I really like how RE7 turn out to be. Being in first-person does add alot of immersion when it comes to horror games and being in front of the monitor adds more weight to it being first-person. I was scared throughout RE7, I shit you not. I'm hoping for a RE8 in first-person.

Hmm, it seems like elements of the game likely got the shove in favor of the online mode. It's fine that it's getting it's own flair from the original, but I'd still like it to have some recognizable elements. I just hope it's a fairly meaty experience.

Also whatever's going to happen to Jill in that OP pic will probably make me do one of these...

Pretty tasteless pic in the OP aside I have faith in Capcom given how well they’ve been doing recently.

Agreed.

First person fine for spin-off games, but don't want that shit in my main entries.

Well, it's a remake not a remaster. Fortunately I never played the original RE3 so I have no expectations to be disappointed by. Hopefully the changes though are there to craft an overall better experience.

First person add more immersion and RE7 is only game in series that is actually Horror game. rest are just zombie action games.

Honestly I wish they just skip 3 remake and go with Code Veronica instead I would love to see the Alaska environment in the RE engine.

Wouldn't be surprised since they did the same thing with RE2. They eliminated the whole purpose of having different scenarios for both characters, with different item location, events and bosses. They simply changed the location of certain items and the solution of puzzles and called it a day, 3X copy/paste.

I enjoyed Resident Evil 7, it was certainly a good game, however I’m really hoping that Resident Evil 8 is from a third person perspective instead. I’m also really, really hoping that they remake RE4 next. Amazing game but the graphics really need an overhaul.

Eww, wtf is wrong with you and WHY would you start the thread with a pic like THAT?!!

As for the topic, I have faith in Capcom with RE3. They have yet to have disappointed me so far and I loved the shit outta RE2 Remake. You just watch, RE3 is gonna be another GOTY contender!

Why not the option for both like was done for RDR2?

Why the pic? lol.

Yeah, RE3 was gonna get a heavier redesign, due to the garbage Carlos segment of the game. Hopefully they add something like with RE2, and don't just shit out similar stuff... The game can be completed pretty damn quick.

Not just his sections, entire game across the board.

Makes sense really, RE2 was essentially a glorified mansion while RE3 largely took place on the streets on Racoon City. With technology advanced they can really expand upon it in a seamless way.

Still, I think they are really missing an opportunity by ignoring the RPG like decision making, it's something the series only really touched upon very lightly (in some cases like Rev 2 shittily) in later entries.

Seriously, in Rev2 is basically a shitty QTE event you aren't even aware you should be partaking in. You don't somehow know, you miss the actual ending of the game.

So they're stripping the decisions you can make in the game completely? They were minimal additions sure, but like you said, they could expand decently upon them.

I don't think I completed Rev2, but you reminded me, as I enjoyed the initial parts of the game.

It kinda seems like a cash grab they are just reusing alot of RE2remake assets. And I'm sure the MP is one of the reasons why the SP is going to be scaled back. Great for people that love MP but I couldn't care less about it I actually may pass on the this game if the SP sucks or wait for a Summer sale on Steam.

Too many fanboys want it to be like the originals. This is a reimagining, something new based on something old. RE2 was far better than the original PS1 game, hope same with 3. Sure they taking out mercenaries but giving us Resistance instead. Maybe it is crap multi, but its just an extra. I kinda look at it like Dead Space 2 mp which was trash but hilarious to play with the demon babies jumping around lol...

I'm in the same boat. Never played the 3rd one, so it'll be mostly the same going into this one as it was going into RE2. I had extremely limited playtime with the original 2 before I played the remake.

We haven’t seen gameplay, and this game comes out in April. It’s also made by a newly formed studio led by the ex Platinum CEO and ex-Platinum staff.

Much like how Nemesis is the 3rd best PS1 resi; the resi 3 remake is destined to be the 3rd best Resi remake. Let us hope that it is still a good game, and not a janky dumpster fire.

Like? Played the original right after beating the remake and was disappointed. Way too easy. They were cool for the time but imo not among the best PS1 games and we all know PS1 was very limited in hardware. Not sure how a game where you have 3D characters tank walking on a blurry picture can be compared to the remake. Ok for its time but no chance.

Resident Evil 2 uses a zapper system and a more differentiated A/B campaign. It's soundtrack and story-telling is also better, with the (much demanded) soundtrack as segmented DLC.

It's opening is also superior. Resident Evil 2 Remakeopens holding the player by the hand in an overly safe sequence, Resident Evil 2 subverts Resident Evil 1's opening by throwing immediately into the frying pan.

Also Resident Evil 2 uses pre-rendered backgrounds, it hasn't got the problem of datedness other PS1 titles have and was ported multiple times across better hardware.

Love the pic, don't remove it. The removal of the mercenaries mode in favor of this project RE garbage is a bold move. People loved REmake 2 for trying to stay "mostly" close the the original game. As one of my top RE games, I'm worried they're going to ruin it. I will still play it though, but it would have been nice if this game turns out at least as good as the original. :(

I wish Resident Evil 3 remake was a next Generation instead of this generation. Capcom should have forgotten about this generation and moved on to the PS5 and XSX.

RE3 was a very 'meh/middle of the road' entry when it was released and I welcome the redesign/re-arrange.
