Poll Resident Evil 2 remake or Resident Evil 7 - which was the better game? (54 votes)

Resident Evil 2 remake 74%
Resident Evil 7 26%

I guess this will come down to who likes the classic style vs modern. They're both great games in their own way. I think the one negative about RE7 is that you fought these blob monsters whereas in RE2 you actually fought zombies. But RE7 had a really creepy atmosphere, and it was new and refreshing. RE2 is pretty faithful to the original. I'm not sure what to choose!! I guess I'll go with RE7. It really was a return to form for the series when it came out. Now it's your turn, SW. You choose! Resident Evil 2 remake or Resident Evil 7 - which was the better game?

RE7 by far.

Actual horror game, first person immerisve, Have creepy atmosphere, best story in series by far.

RE2 is just third person zombie action game where we play as leonardo di caprio or red jacket girl.

Resident Evil 2 remake easily

Is RE7 scarier absolutely but the problem with it is it takes away player control way to many times for scripted events also killing those molded creatures gets boring quick. The main protagonist is so forgettable I honestly can't remember his name I really hope for RE8 they go back to third person with better enemies and combat.

I finished RE2 four times and never even made it halfway through 7. 7 sucked. Looking forward to RE3.

Everyone seems to forgotten or don't even know that first-person-view was going to be for the first Resident Evil game until Capcom couldn't do it due to PSX limitations at the time. Anyways, I really like RE7 and playing it in first-person was really scary while walking through the mansion and running into the mold monsters was frightening in first-person, so I'm going with RE7 and I played RE2 on PSX and the Remake was well great, I feel that RE7 just doesn't get the respect it deserves and RE7 went back to it's roots as survival-horror genre and a huge comeback right after RE6.

The Protagonist name is Ethan and for the record, the reason why you couldn't or didn't like him because he wasn't one of those superhuman cops you are familiar with. Ethan being a nobody was a nice welcome treat who wasn't all that serious to begin with. Also, I think everyone who might miss this but Ethan isn't just a nobody, he works for Umbrella corps, as per his name appearing in one of RE5's files. That alone makes him mildly interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing him again in RE8.

first person is more hardcore and immersive. you cant see anything behind.

in third person like gears of war. you take cover and can see everything behind the wall.

First of all, I haven't played either but I've seen plenty of gameplay. In my eyes, RE 2 Remake feels a lot more like Resident Evil from the environments to the enemies, which are old school zombies.

Well I've played RE 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & Code Veronica, so I have just a little bit of experience with the series, and first person would just ruin it.

And if 7 was third person you wouldn't be making this thread, instead it would be all RE games are shit, blah, blah, blah thread.

@davillain-: It doesn't matter what RE was supposed to be (fp in this case) its what it ended up being, and that's one of the best games to come out during that gen. Almost every RE game goes through tons of changes, even nearly completed games getting scrapped and restarted from scratch.

Resident Evil 7 is better in almost every way imo. Better gameplay, story, characters (well aside from Leon > Ethan, obviously), enemies, boss fights, setting, and most importantly, horror. RE7 is David Cronenberg tier bodyhorror. Resident Evil 2 only wins in music (dat super tyrant theme)

Nothing in Remake 2 even comes close to the garage or greenhouse boss fights in RE7

RE2 Remake is one of the best in the series.

RE7 is RE in name only. Good horror game but not Resident Evil.

I liked RE7 a lot more. Both are great games, but the way the gun upgrades and the new game+ unlocks were handled in RE7 made it a lot more fun to go through again and again.

DLC was great in 7 too. Ethan Must Die is a real addictive rouge-like run that challenges you to get to the end. Jakes Birthday is better than mercenaries imo. Zoe Must Die turns you into a cyborg boxer, with a real challenging final mma match when on impossible setting.

@warmblur: First off vorpx is cool for a novelty but pretty limited. Secondly, RE2 is third person, while RE7 is first, which makes a huge difference immersion-wise. Thirdly RE7 has Mia dismembering you in said first person, among a whole bunch of other horrifying things. The entire hell house section of RE7 is pretty horrifying, especially your first time around in VR. Nothing in RE2 touches it.

All of that being said, the RE2 remake is wonderful, and well deserving of a VR mode, though they should definitely convert it to first person.

EDIT: Oops, my bad. RE2 first person is real. That's cool.

I wish people ITT gave reasons why REmake 2 is better than 7, because I'm curious to know why they thought so. Nostalgia? Because it sure as hell ain't due to design.

@pinkribbonscars: To me the zombies and tyrants are what made Resident Evil. I have my complaints about REmake 2 and i will say that i still like the original better in some ways, but still a better RE game then RE7. RE7 is a great game but just doesnt feel like a RE game.

Each are great games in their own right. However, RE7 did not feel like a "true" RE game to me but I did enjoy it (played on PC and Pro). I've been playing RE games since the late 90's so if it comes to voting what is a better "RE" game....my hat goes to RE2 remake. Being more tried and true to the series. I do think RE7 nails it on the horror aspect and offers a scarier atmosphere.

7 was surprisingly good, and re2 was a great modernization of a classic. I'm curious if re3 will be the success 2 was, or will it feel tired like the original. Not saying the game was bad, but re was becoming old hat by this point the first time around.

7. It revived the franchise and was a necessary reset button. Remake 2 is good but the A/B scenarios are not fleshed out like the original and the puzzle solving is worse than the original as well.

I agree. RE3 was literally released as an in-between game while Code Veronica was in development. RE3 is very meh and I welcome a major redesign. Also, Code Veronica sucks.

I'm still surprised people find RE 7 to be scary. Game was a bit too silly. Honestly RE4 is the only RE I've really enjoyed tbh.
