Report: Xbox One under 30 mil units sold as of Dec. 31 according to EA

Engage me if true! According to EA's estimates, the combined sales of PS4/Xbox One are at 103 million as of Dec 31st, 2017. Since Sony reported sales of 73.6 of PS4 by this same date, that leaves Xbox One at a whopping... 29.4 million or so systems sold by this time! EeeYOUCH!

This confirms my thoughts that if MS just stopped reporting numbers altogether, the unit sales are far worse than we thought. The very reason why they've retreated to reporting dubious metrics like "engagement" and "monthly active users" to hide the shame. Even the reporting of revenue is vague under their Gaming umbrella since they can add just about anything they think is gaming related to the financial reports.

Where most people believed the numbers were about 36 mil by this point, it's probably around 32 or so in reality at current, given the lack of popularity with the brand WW. I know EA has a close relationship with MS, so that's why they report combined numbers of PS4 and Xbox instead of individually, but even reporting like this does MS no favors when Sony actually releases their figures.

Damn, beat me to it, already said it's dead outside the US. Xbox sells because of patriotism, nothing else. MS doesn't have to offer anything good to their fans.

You beat me to it. I was actually gonna post this here after seeing it on Resetera. Some reputable sources over there have confirmed it too.

Looks like it's doing worse than we imagined, and all those estimates over 35-40 million were wrong too. No wonder MS stopped reporting numbers. To go from the 360 to selling under 30 million in 4 years plus is pretty damn sad. I suspected the console was doing worse than people realized when MS stopped reporting even software sales numbers and started reporting "engagement" and "friendships formed". Sales in Europe and the rest of the world must have cratered a long time ago. Seems US and UK are the only places they are still selling.

The sales are not terrible. That has outsold a lot of previous consoles.

For a modern console the sales are quite horrible. The console gaming market has grown a lot since the 80s and 90s, they should be selling much higher. 29.4 million after 4 years on the market is abysmal, even 35 million (the previous estimate) was bad.

Even the dreamcast sold around 10 million in it's 18 months, X1 is selling poorly.

Sorry if most of us aren't living in the Xbox bubble where everything is sunshine and roses. You think this is okay? Then you guys wonder why the system isn't getting major dedicated first party AAAs, but early access crap and lackluster GaaS garbage instead. This console isn't selling very well, hence the band-aids like the leaning on last gen content and introducing some new features that no one but the average Xbox diehard would care about.

MS hides these numbers because they know it's a red flag for people to stay away. There's nothing in Xbox's future to move units but price cuts ahead. You're only falling apart because it exposes the truth.

This isn't good because it just means microsoft is more willing to push exclusive game development to their next console. Late in the OG Xbox's and 360's lifespan exclusives dried up. Anything currently early in development on the Xbox One I'd be surprised if it came out on the system and didn't pushed back. Same thing happened with the WiiU after a certain point Nintendo all but abandoned it. Next gen might come sooner then you think. Personally I'd rather see game companies max this gen out first. I hate short generation cycles and new systems. I've seen very few games this gen that push what these consoles can do.

Xbox One fans can try to sugarcoat it, but seeing Xbox One sold $30 million in almost 5 years is NOT impressive nor it is nowhere at least $50 million by now. I'm sorry but $30 million in almost 5 years is downright awful, MS needs a combat but then again, this gen is almost over, Xbox One will go down as the disaster MS console in history.

MS is just gonna have to try again in next-gen Xbox console.

Exactly. MS is gonna drop the "no more generations" horsecrap and jump into the next console sooner rather than later. I wouldn't even be surprised if they drop the Xbox moniker altogether and call it something else completely. I mean, they're getting aced by both the Switch and the PS4 at this point. So much so, the former will be surpassing it LTD likely by the end of the fiscal year, or earlier.
