Redfall interview with Legend Harvey Smith - Confirmed Its SP game primarily

Harvey smith making it. a guy who made Deus Ex with Warren spector.

Pretty much confirmed its SP game. its classic arkane game. its not left 4 dead with vampires.

That is pretty awesome, I just watched that video before you had posted. Great times ahead.

Why did they put so much emphasis on the mp and basically market it as an mp game then?

Yeah. I figured, being that the host is the only one that can progress in the missions. Everyone else gets to keep their levels and stuff at least as confirmed in the video though

Interesting. Didn't they emphasize the multiplayer, saying "you can play with your friends or by yourself".

Yeah, definitely felt like they were marketing it as a MP game.

Glad to hear it's a singleplayer game.

I figured as much from the gameplay reveal.

It was only Arkane game I was not interested until I saw gameplay plus more previews.

Arkane never disappoints.

good to hear but as juub said it's been marketed as mp / co-op, backtracking now feels a bit hollow, im a bit cynical

That's actually kind of disappointing. I was hoping for a good 4 player co-op game since back 4 blood sucked.

Backtracking? The only way they can backtrack is if the game was multiplayer only and they were pressured to include single player.

looking at gameplay. its gunplay looks like best in any of Arkane game.

I love Arkane but it seems like Harvey Smith is trying to please both crowds and convince everyone it's their next big SP title in the same vein as Dishonored, Prey and Deathloop. When in reality it's their version of a co-op live service game because that's where the real money is. Or maybe it's a case of confusing marketing but I doubt a company like Arkane/Bethesda would mess that up.

Guess we're gonna have to wait and see.

Kay. Just want a good game. That it's primarily SP but can be played MP sounds like some part of the game is half-assed. Or both parts. Of course, I could be wrong and hope that I am.

The gameplay video made me more optimistic and now this makes me even happier.

It looks fun but it's probably going to flop hard like Back 4 Blood did after the first month due to similar problems

I got an opportunity to meet Harvey earlier this year. His understanding of game design is otherworldly, and he's a genuinely kind human being.

Could not be more excited for this title. First player/multiplayer... I'm in.

I have tremendous respect for both Harvey and Raphael Colantonio. Their partnership provided one of the best games I've ever played: Dishonored.

I'm still meaning to get into Weird West. Harvey gave a talk at GDC this year and mentioned Weird West several times. It seems like a really interesting take on an immersive sim.

I don't buy that for one second... they have been hyping this as co-op since it was in early development. They will just say whatever they need to in order to maximize sales and interest like any other game. Can you play the campaign by yourself? Sure you can. Just like with just about any other co-op game....

Nothing to see here. Although I am slightly interested in the game.

It's a bit harder to get into for sure, with it being isometric. But once you do get into it, it really starts to shine.

I'm honestly relieved. I love Arkane, they are my favorite developer, so when I saw this I just kind of expected that it was an end to the kind of game they made. And, because I have GP now, I don't have to worry about buying it. Awesomesauce.

You didn't answer the question. Is Back 4 Blood single player?

No and neither is Redfall? It has cooperative multiplayer?

This game is aesthetically so fugly. Nobody is mentioning this, but it needs to be said.

So it's more like Borderlands than Left 4 Dead. Fine then.

Clearly you've never played Back 4 Blood if you don't understand how the MP works. Other posts above have explained how it is more or less the same with the progression system.
