RE8 supposedly rebooted...

Looks like RE8 was in the works and has since gone back to the drawing board. Link.

Hopefully this reboot was in relation to the success of the remakes, and we'll see something similar for 8.

Also worth noting, is that other Capcom IPs are getting a similar treatment, and it's been rumoured that Dino Crisis is the IP Capcom are looking at.

Just keep remaking the old ones in the mean time.

@SolidGame_basic: It seems like we won't get any remakes after 3 for a few years. I'd love to see a CV remake. In the interim, i'd gladly take Dino Crisis, if that's what's being developed.

As for 8, i'm hoping this move actually means a transition back to the more traditional style, with Remake controls.

Makes me more hopeful for RE8. I really hope they make a new Onimusha, or remaster the others ones. It's been awhile since they remastered the first one.

Must be related to that HCF reference in RE7.

My guess is Capcom were already working on Code Veronica. They just pretend to say they're considering it to get fans to talk about it again or to remind them. If I remembered correctly, they did something similar with RE3. They said something like if fans want RE3 to be remade then let them know but the truth is they were already working on it long before they said that.

And I'm looking forward to it. Many potential things to expand and improve upon the original. RE3 Remake has shown me that changing up more things is actually better. So I'm hoping they change things a lot from the original just like RE3 Remake. As long as the core features are still there like Claire, Chris,and Steve are the protagonist, Alexia, Wesker, and Afraid are the antagonist, than it won't go wrong.

Oh and still waiting for Dino Crisis Remake because I haven't played a Dinosaur game in years since Turok & Turok 2: Seeds of Evil came to GoG.

@davillain-: They def did that with RE3. I get it reuses a lot of assets, but to come out a year later is quick. I hope they expand on RE3 a little, because it's a quick jaunt of a game.

@nishanth12: Possibly. No guarantee, naturally. I prefer the 3rd-person original approach, rather than the disjointed 1st-person RE7, but I can appreciate there were a lot of fans for the new game.

They do this all the time with RE, hell RE2 was close to 75% done and they rebooted it and started over from scratch, same with RE4 and probably a few others.

@vfighter: Yep, if I remember correctly RE4 had 3 or 4 different builds before they settled on the one we got.

Yup. I'm hoping the timeline is indicative, as the popularity of RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake has skyrocketed, even though RE7 sold quite well.

Sounds like with the recent success of Resident Evil 2 Remake and hype for RE3R that they may have changed to doing RE8 in the more traditional RE style which makes me quite happy as that’s the style that I prefer. I would really like it if they decide to remake RE4 next though and bring its graphics into current/next gen. Would also love to see Dino Crisis get the remake treatment as well.

@fedor: I have a PlayStation Underground disc for my ps1 and it has a video preview of RE2, the scrapped version. It looked a lot like 1 graphically, but totally different locations. It was still based on a police station but everything looked way different then what we got.

That and RE4 was originally set in another mansion and instead of zombies it was ghost or poltergeist you were fighting.

I'd love if Capcom came out with either a book or a documentary on all the cancelled/reworked RE games, I'd find that quit fascinating.

Other than the remakes, they'll have to "wow" me to get me to come back to new iterations of the IP after 7.

The same with Resident Evil 0 as well. It was being made for the Nintendo 64 but was scrapped and then made for the Gamecube. So you're right that Capcom has always been doing this.

Well if true that RE8 got scrapped it means the possible Dino Crisis will be out next gen before RE8. Good news. As for RE, i think we all could tell after RE3R they are gonna take a RE remaking break.

I hope not. RE7 is the best RE after 4, and I want them to continue going in it's direction. REmake 2 was fun but inferior in everyway, and going back to that formula would be a step back

Actually RE7 was better than RE4 and RE8 need to be in first person.

Nah. It is pretty close tho, but RE4 having Krauser gives it like a +3 rating. So while both games are 10/10 tier, Krauser pushes RE4 to 13/10

@lundy86_4: This same person has claimed Konami are working on two new Silent Hill games which are similar to the first three. I'm not sure if this is a good thing considering most of the original SH team is gone.
