Dang, my lady Lily came back strong and knocked them haters out the park. Theyll think twice next time they try to bring that racism and sexual harassment in the House of Gao. Im proud of the Capcom producers and directors for going against the grain and making Lily the first ever Asian Woman to play the Asian Ada Wong. Im tired of these scaredy cats trying to plug white actors into roles of color in fear theyll get cancelled. I say F dem haters, its time we go to war against these haters. We taken everything they got!

But why does she sound super bored? I don't give a shit about your ethnicity. Just stop sounding so boring. Felt like anyone could do that performance, but when that performance comes from a "voice actor" it should be better. She doesn't sound kind, just, intelligent or funny. She sounds like a robot devoid of any feeling whatsoever.

But I shouldn't say too much until I hear more of it, I guess.

@Litchie: Boring voice acting, o no, this a first for RE. Im suprised they didnt send death threats, sexual harassment threats, and racist threats to all those other boring white voice actors in the resident evil series. But then again, those white voice actors were revered for their amazing ground breaking performances.

I mocked the fact that this mattered so much to people. It doesn't to me, especially not when the voice acting in earlier RE games is well known to be shit. But not necessarily boring.

How do people hear race through voice?

Asshole Capcom dumped the RE2R VA for being in a union and hired some rando who did a shit job at it. Now, of course, she's bringing race into it for no reason.

She read the lines about as monotone as possible. Ben Stine could've voiced a better Ada.

I had to check out what all the fuss was about and as usual with gamers it's nothing particularly relevant. She goes for a cold personality and does an acceptable job at it. Specially considering how shitty RE characters tend to be.

As soon as Ada came on screen, I immediately knew something was off. Compared to Leon, since the two interact, her voice acting is subpar. The devs could have gotten a better acting Asian to play Ada. And I want to know who cares if an Asian voice actor is playing a fictional Asian character? I see the character, not the actor. And it’s not like her voice is your stereotypical Asian voice, she’s speaking English pretty well that I wouldn’t have thought she was Asian.

Also, since when is Asian considered “people of color?” I guess I assumed that’s people who are black or more darker complexion, not another white skinned person?

That's been a lost art since the 360/PS3 era.

Yet another person in the entertainment industry making tone deaf comments to "snap back" at the haters. She sounds bored. Full stop. If she wants to keep reading mean comments she will absolutely find the racism, sexism, all the ism's she can wrap up into a nice big ball of toxic hate and condemn it. But to deflect criticism of her voice and use the excuse of "they hate me because they are racist, sexist, or whatever else" is completely missing the point.

The internet is full of nasty, whiny people that go straight to the sex/race/religious affiliation/political group/etc. The best thing to do is ignore those people and focus on the actual criticism. If you aren't going to do that then you will come across just looking like a victim of hate, which doesn't help address criticism of the actual issue: in this case how boring she sounds compared to literally anyone else in this remake.

But at the end of the day, it isn't a super huge deal. She could've done better. That's all.

Whenever I speak to friends about video games they always go for any given video game: what's next? Where's the content?

Uhm, I don't have 23 hours a day to game, I'll just get the game and don't care about any live service or the likes. Just appreciate what is there. Not every game needs to be like Fortnite, constantly trying to draw you in with new content.

Here’s the thing: If you can’t take criticism, you’ll never grow. You reject instruction and knowledge at that point for the sake of “not being judged.”

That's why I enjoy her portrayal. Her voice is a good fit but character-wise it almost comes across as another "time to bail out Leon....again."

Buddy, that's what everyone is saying on this thread. The deeper you go, the more hate you will find. I guarantee there is nasty, vile, unacceptable hate about every single thing that's wrong in any kind of medium. Just keep digging and you will find it. But for Lily Gao to point that out is tone deaf. It isn't the real problem people are having with Ada's voice in this remake. Nobody on this thread is saying they don't like her because she is Asian or a woman. We are all saying she sounds bored. And yes, we would call this out regardless of the race, gender, or whatever else.

One thing that I love about Gamers⟨™⟩ is that when stuck between something like bad voice acting and abuse directed at creators they always choose the right side. Because racism and physical threats are bad but not that bad. Am I right? She should just stfo and take it.

Yeah lol, that's a take on it I guess. My reaction was laughter, because she sounded so incredibly bored. Like a person sitting in a room reading a piece of paper, just wanting to go home asap. And laughter is positive. :P Will probably chuckle some more to it when I play the game.

Still haven't played it, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say critics are doing a lot of beating around the bush by pointing out the obvious, that the voice just isn't sexy enough. Just be honest, looks stupid to pretend to be massively upset for any other reason, so say it - the voice just isn't sexy enough.

From the voice clips I heard online, her voice acting sounds dry. I had no idea the voice actress was Asian, but I initially got the impression it was a white voice actress. Capcom clearly cast her for the role because she played the live-action Ada in Welcome to Raccoon City (which I haven't seen), but there are plenty of better Asian voice actresses they could've cast for the role.

However, the backlash is certainly overblown "culture wars" nonsense... Let's face it, if there's anything that Resident Evil is infamously known for, it's bad voice acting. The RE franchise is famous for "it's so bad, it's good" voice acting. Fans never cared about bad voice acting before, so why do they care now all of a sudden? Besides, Ada only appears in a handful of scenes during the original RE4. I doubt she appears much more in the remake. She's a side character, not a main character. If they messed up a main character like Leon or Ashley, then the backlash would be warranted. But all this over a side character? That's just dumb.

Its not about racism or sexism. Its about her underwhelming vocal performance that didnt fit the character. I dont think she should be harassed but i didnt care for her performance either. Im judging her vocal performance not her sex or race

Look you guys, when it comes to VA, you can blame the people/studio for hiring that person but don't go taking it out on the VA itself. If you didn't like Ada voice, take that anger toward Capcom, they hire Lily Gao to do a voice job and she did the best she could with it and I was okay with it. Ada to me was always eye-candy anyway and not my fav RE character to begin with.

It's sad people nowadays take their anger out on the VA and not the company itself they hire for.

How do people consider Leon's voice in the remake? In the demo, i thought he did a great job. I actually like him more than the original (assuming its not the same VA)

No one cares about your race, lady...…they think you did a shit job for the character. If anything, a miscast by Capcom. Myself, I've never really taken such notice to Ada in the old games to voice such displeasure in contrast to the new one, and frankly Ada sounds fine to me in the Remake, but to pull the race card here is laughable.

On the other hand, I agree something was off about her. It wasn't as sexy and erotic as I remember Ada to be. This was before this entire controversy. Actually I thought all this time Ada was played by an Asian. Its actually funny they were played by white actresses, though it makes sense. Not many asians typically in this field of work.

Either way, I wasnt blown away by her portrayal of Ada. Buy it wasn't bad enough that I would bash her on Twitter. Too many hardwenzen like character in this world. Sad.

That she has had racist comments doesn’t mean that’s the impetus of the criticism of her portrayal. Which, in today's climate, "haters" can come to encompass any criticism, period, and you made no distinction in your title nor body topic to distinguish racism, sexism, etc from legitimate critiques of her work. Her statement is rife with sentiments of injustice stemming not from that work, but from aspects that she can lazily fall back on and attribute in its stead so she can walk away, self righteous in her indignation that hey......maybe it's not MY work.....it's the bigots' fault!

Of course it is, isn't it? It's no surprise that the typical vermin will come out of the woodwork to sling at her the most vile and reprehensible of comments, but that she uses that to try to invalidate legitimate criticisms of her own performance is, IMO, equally as reprehensible. When is criticism valid and not bigoted?
