[QUOTE="Aidenfury19"][QUOTE="PurpleMan5000"] Meh. Sony is charging for online play. Everything else Microsoft is trying this gen sucks, but it's not as bad as charging you to use your own internet connection on games that you paid for. The Xbox One and PS4 are both awful.PurpleMan5000
No, both are bad but one is most definitely worse and paid online play is not it. You maintain single-player no matter what you do with Sony, Microsoft is attempting to overturn the first sale doctrine in the console space and that is a line that should NEVER be crossed.
Our worldviews color our perceptions, but if you really think that paid online is worse I'd ask you to re-evaluate as calmly and rationally as possible.
I'm not trying to defend Microsoft in any way. Removing consumer rights by manipulating the market to give preferred retailers exclusive rights to used games is pretty low. I just don't think it's as low as putting services that I pay for from vendors who are completely unrelated to Sony or Microsoft behind a pay wall. If XBLG were free, I would be more likely to purchase an Xbox One than a PS4 at this point. It's not, though, so there is almost zero chance I will ever own either.Microsoft is the company that has used this tactic, not SONY. Tretton specifically stated that the PS+ subscription applies strictly to that gaming aspect and that other services from unrelated vendors are not impacted by having or not having a PS+ subscription.
That being said, I kind of sensed all along that SONY would end free online play. In that respect, PC is king for avoiding this tactic (to my knowledge at least). $5 a month is not a hefty fee, but can add up over the course of several years. However, PS+ has always had the bonus of free games, a value that has been praised by the gaming community. So much so that Microsoft has announced that they will be copying this very same model. I just hope that they allow you to pay the fee monthly as you go, as opposed to demand bulk payments. You may be into a game that is single player and would have no use for online for a while.
