P.S.A PlayStation 4 community app is shutting down soon, I dont like this move at all Sony.

As some might know, Sony will remove the "community" feature for PS4 somewhere in April. I know many never here somehow never used the app but personally as someone who frequently uses this feature, I hate this move as its a place where players gather and socialize. Sure its very underbaked and Sony those idiots never updated the community app like better organization and sub threads to makes it tidy but still its a place where you could go and interact with other players, share tip, join sessions or request coop. I fully took atvantage of to join quick random or newbie help sessions in MHW and Destiny.

I dont understand why Sony removes this absolutely wonderful app instead of actually improving it. Come on Sony fix this, we have no replacement app on PS4, doesnt even exist on PS5. Discord on phones? Fuk that shit, no way Im using a separate app via phones when we already have a functioning social app and can voice chat natively via PSN group chat. Why is Sony doing crap like this sigh, new gen is weird.

Sony seems to be shutting loads of stuff down at the moment. PSV and PS3 stores. Japan Studios. Now this.

It doesn't really make sense unless they have something coming along to replace it. Playstation Home was a great app (of sorts) back in the day. I hope they bring it back. In VR especially Home would be amazing.

@wandering_halls: I always liked the idea of Home, but never bothered with it much because would rather just play games then run around in that virtual world.

@vfighter: way ahead of its time with quite a liberating degree of freedom to do whatever you want but my god its microtransaction heavy. Those furnitures and limited edition fashion collabs cost bullshit amount.

@sakaixx: It was really interesting...I just couldn't get past that I'd rather be playing games then running around a virtual world watching virgins dry humping every female avatar in sight.

@vfighter: the perils of it being free. I enjoyed it you could organize game sessions with randoms or create a room just for ur home friends. All these actually translate to the PS4 community app. You can join multiplayer sessions from the app or just chat.

Doesn't matter because Jim is a nobody. Playstation Japan is the one in charge.

Jim has been telling Playstation Japan what to do. He's been put in charge of the whole Playstation division. The Japan Studio devs have been leaving the studio by the week. A thread could be made about the Japan Studio situation.

I don't use my PS4 to play online games, so i haven't really explored this section, but does Sony have something similar to Xbox's Looking For Group feature?

@theam0g: yes, xbox copied the service for its platform and everything is almost similar with how Xbox Clubs work.

I heard its not a popular feature on xbox so idk if you guys use the main thread section but on PS4 for popular games, communities can go up to 100k (seems like max) members and is definitely hard to keep track of posts by members.

@sakaixx: even though you're a cow, its nice to see you call them out for their shit, not that it will do any good as Sony was the gen leader last gen and feel they can do what ever they want, and by how few posts there are in here from cows, they're right, they can do whatever they want and you will support them.

The truth of the matter is that Jim Ryan likely has a similar role to what Reggie had for Nintendo in the US. That is, not a role that sets the tone or dictate the direction that the brand goes in. Just a role of representing that brand in a particular set of territory and handling distribution and marketing for said territory.

In short; he's not in charge and doesn't make the big decisions. The Japanese Playstation division does.

EDIT: I'm taking back what I said about the role being similar to Reggie, seems I have forgotten about Playstation's move to the US. With that said I don't exactly know what Ryan's role truly entails anymore and thus can't make the same claim. He might still need some sort of approval from Sony Japan but his role is definitely different than Reggie's.

I felt a similar disappointment when GameSpot and GameFAQs split. Each game use to have more independent game specific forums I enjoyed participating in, but then that disappeared.
