Now, let's get something clear. PS4 is still beating the Switch in world wide numbers, however the only reason the Switch is selling like hotcakes is because the WiiU bombed harder than the amount dropped in Germany during WW2.

However, when the PS5 comes out in 2020. The power, the next gen games, the VR technology. It will be enough to make the Switch outdated. I expect the SwitchU to come out in 2022 after sales have died off.

Note: I did not mentioned the NextBox, because Microsoft ended up 3rd this gen, probably going to end up in 4th, behind the Stadia. Facts.

Why does it have to? The switch appears to be an awesome system despite it already being the least powerful of the current consoles. If it does what it's supposed to and has the games, then let it succeed.

It won't just stop the Switch's momentum, PS5 will be the end of Nintendo. With PS5's specs and Sony's stellar first party, it's only a matter of time before Sony buys out Nintendo.

@Zero_epyon: That doesn't stop it from being true. Think about it, why wouldn't Sony want Mario on their system? It's a global icon. They'll just make the money back eventually through profits.

There's no reason why Nintendo would sell anything to Sony following the success of the switch. They now know what works against Sony and pretty much have a monopoly on handhelds outside of phones and tablets.

Maybe not Sony, but Nintendo won't last forever so he's half true. Nintendo only has a video game division, if one of their systems falls their whole company falls. They aren't Sony or Microsoft.

@migina: I think you have misunderstood something about the switch.

The switch is not a home console, it´s a hybrid "console/Handheld" so no a new PlayStation or Xbox will not stop the momentum Switch has since it´s still a unique hybrid handheld/home console. Unless of course both Sony and Microsoft decide to go the same way.

It's a fad, just like the wiimote thingy. But it isn't a fad to the level of the Wii. But it is a fad that will die out with the might PS5 on the Horizon.

Nintendo is also a software company who makes games for its systems and mobile devices. They'll be just fine. Look at the WiiU. Worst system they've ever made. Bounced back with the switch and now they're rivaling Sony on their home turf. Come on let's not go there.

I think not, the only one that can stop its momentum is Nintendo, with Pokemon they will have used all of their heavy hitters so it would be time for new Nintendo IPs to sell those consoles.

Lol, seriously? It's just as likely that Sony goes out of business (considering that PS has pretty much been their saving grace over the last decade or more - if PS had a major failure, that could spell the end of Sony). And whilst it's highly unlikely that MS would get rid of Xbox, Xbox doesn't mean as much to MS as other parts of their business.

Nintendo is harmless. They won a gen with the Wii and did nothing of note, aside from setting a record of broken TVs.

@Zero_epyon: Nintendo won't go out without a fight. If it comes down to a hostile takeover, Sony has the resources to make it happen. The Switch was a fluke, we all saw what happened to the Wii U. Add in Nintendo's unwillingness to adopt modern trends and it's essentially guaranteed.

I do agree, however, "better switch" will help revive sales assuming they slow down when 9th gen comes.

No one wants a shitty console, but if Switch is only handheld there is a nice niche for it, even if most normal people just use Stadia on their Google Phones.

I’m building a mini PC that will DESTROY the next gen consoles. My cutoff for completion is end of May, and it will have all the features of the next gen consoles. Momentum means nothing if consumers are able to replicate the tech a year+ in advance.

I will keep the build under 600 watts TDP

I will use a Ryzen CPU

The build will be ray tracing ready

I will only use ssd’s

Digital only

Cerny can kiss my ass after this one...

PS5 and Switch will be aiming for quite different markets. They aren't direct competitors like the PS and Xbox systems are.

@migina: Sony need to offer mobile PS4 from mobile Ryzen 3600G APU which replaces Raven Ridge APU e.g. four ZEN v2 cores with 8 threads and 18 CU at 800Mhz

PC's Ryzen 3600G APU has 8 CPU Zen v2 cores with 16 threads and 20 CU GPU at >1.3Ghz

That's kind of how I buy my PC's. Just not mini. I just buy a new PC every 5 years or so, like a generational cycle. And usually the PC lasts me 5 years easily. The trick is to be satisfied that you run games way better than any console can during those 5 years. You may not be able to set everything to the max settings 4 years in, but it'll be close to the max and it'll be way ahead of consoles still. And new tech that gets introduced during that time like RTX will be things to look forward to in your next 'generation', and will probably be more affordable/properly implemented by then.

My past 2 PC's have been disc-less. And this PC is only SSD, but getting close to 5 years old I think. Though, last year I put a new GPU inside it, so I think I can draw it out another 2 years at least. Apparently I made an excellent choice with my CPU. I bought that 4790k i7 CPU back in the day and it has not/barely dropped in price ever since, and is still a good enough CPU for gaming.

Next time I will again invest a lot of time into picking my CPU. Because so much is connected to it. If your CPU doesn't last, you probably need a new motherboard because the sockets change a lot (and that may also mean new RAM if you're really unlucky), and that becomes expensive so it's worth being really sure about your choice of CPU and where they're headed. Never tried an AMD CPU but it's starting to become appealing.

I hesitate going mini because I've had bad experiences with gaming laptops, and I don't ever want the system to have a problem with the heat. So I like to get a pretty big case. I hope we will see more cases that have a removable/no HDD tray, nice big fans and a decent dust filter. I always took air cooling over water cooling because water cooling involves some maintenance and I don't want to have to maintain anything if I can help it.

@XVision84: Mount Besterest eh? I see, well it must be cloudy atop that mountain, cause Sony have lost sight of what it takes to make the bestest exclusives.

Meanwhile, Nintendo HQ is located at the bestuary of the river in which all of the truly top notch games flow down.

Entirely different market... The Switch doesn't have a competitor. A the rumoured smaller and cheaper Switch SKU will bring in a LOT more sales for Nintendo because some people can't justify the price for a console with PS3 ish graphics just to play Nintendo games and a cheaper model will help sway the people on the edge.

The PS5 and X2 are both in danger on the other hand... If Googles gaming services does what it says it will it will disrupt the sales of next generation consoles by a chunk, not to mention that with the rumoured specifications and the fact that when asked about price they said it will be appealing based on the hardware for gamers, chances are the PS4 will NOT be a $399 console.

Just my two cents.

Why mini? Does that term change anything other than the size of the case and mother board?

On PC many times building a Mini PC usually mean problems,as some cases are to small to fit a normal size GPU,and i don't think you will get an APU more powerful than the ones in next gen consoles.

Hell mini PC cases ten to be even more expensive some times than bigger ones.

Just built a normal one you are going to use the same components anyway.

Is totally doable to do so but it will cost you more i am sure,of course not in the long run as you save $60 a year from online fees.

Believe it or not is not a different competitor the switch is a hybrid but still is a console as well.

That is the problem cutting cost on the switch is problematic because of the screen, same shit happen with the wii U they can't lower cost as easy as sony and MS do.

There are many variables in motion here.

But i don't see the switch slowing down any time soon,in fact i would not be surprise if it outsell the PS5 a year or 2.

The PS2 did it to the 360 and the PS4 also has outsell the switch so is possible.
