PS5 weaker than the Series X? Ray Tracing not done by AMD?

So first of, Ariel, Ariel B0 and Oberon are all thought to be PS5 chips.

Then this

Folks are speculating a console with about 9-10 TFLOPs of compute performance which would put it significantly behind the rumored 12 TFLOPs of compute performance of the Series X. Both are believed to be RDNA2 so it should be an apples to apples comparisons.

This would also line up quite nicely with these old-ass benchmarks.

Would just like to stress NONE of that information is from primary sources so like with every rumor, take it with a grain of salt.

We can only speculate at this time. I just made a post starting to realize that series X is exactly what Uncle Phill is trying to communicate it means as the name implies. Its the X model of the next generation. The most powerful premium console.

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the PS5 will have the most powerful SSD the world has ever seen

If the Series X has 12 TFLOPS I would actually be surprised but I know that it wouldn't despite the false hype.

@Random_Matt: The power draw and tdp will most certainly be higher than the Xbox One X. Richard of DF said he wouldn't be surprised if the Series X pulled 300W. As for the heat generation, with that large case with a vent at the top and reportedly a much better cooling solution, I don't think it'll be much of a problem. The physical limitations of traditional consoles don't apply to the Series X. At least not to the same extent.

1-No one has confirmed the Xbox is 12TF phill claim 2X Xbox one X,which could be achieve with a 10TF Navi.

2-Cerny already confirmed HW raytracing.

Cows are very quickly parsing what their next narrative is going to be. Whether or not they care about hardware. If MS is able to squeeze out a more powerful machine and ALSO eat the cost and keep the price competitive with PS5, you're going to start seeing concern trolling Cows putting on their business suits and suddenly becoming VERY worried about if hundred-millionaire Phil Spencer can afford his next months rent. Or a second yahct.

I mean, Cows didnt give a shit when Sony was liquidating buildings, and damn near burning their own furnature to keep the heat on. And whether or not the company would even survive, let alone produce another Playstation, was legitimate open air speculation. Oh, but they will care,I promise you, when its about Microsoft. Just like they did not say 12TF,that is what people assumed,Navi is more efficient than Polaris so you don't need 12 TF Navi to double the Xbox one X,which is what Phill claimed 2X Xbox one X,and knowing MS and how they spin things I am sure this is the case.

Anyway, there's no use in stanning for Xbox in that fashion anymore. Their games are multiplat now. The console "war" is over for them, they waved the white flag. MS never EVER undersell their console their over sell it,so if they say 2X Xbox one X is not 12TF Navi rdna2 which is 1.25 more efficient than GCN is.

12TF rdna 2 is close to 3 times better than the Xbox one X,not twice which I am sure MS will never EVER allow to pass unseen,if the Xbox scarlet is 12 TF MS would have confirm it period.

I don’t know why people are trying to make something out of Microsoft not declaring the Xbox Series X as the “most powerful” console. The PS5 is an unknown entity to those outside of Sony so why would Microsoft make such a declaration about the XSX. Same with Sony. They aren’t declaring the PS5 as “the most powerful console” either and why would they.

This leak is old it was already share in fact I argue about this months ago here when it was claim the GPU speed was 2.0ghz.

This wouldn't surprise me at all... MS seems to want to have the premium console on the market. And I expect the XSX will probably cost US$100 more than the PS5 because of it.

I think Sony's plan will be to still aim for the $US399 price point even if it means having a less powerful machine, because making money off the actual hardware is more important to Sony than MS.

If this does turn out to be true, it's going to be hilarious seeing cows' reactions. I'm guessing they'll continue their same "power difference isn't important" narrative they've been using since the XB1X came out. Lol.

@Juub1990: The X1X doesn't have 12 TF. This is shitty game journalism at its finest. They said 8x more powerful then the Xbox one and 2x a X1X... so which is it? Because 8x a OG X1 is 10.4tf. I think people said 2x a X1X so everyone assumed 12 TF but the thing is a RDNA part clocked at 9.2tf would be about 2x the power of a X1X.

@Juub1990: Dude I'm just telling you how the rumor got started. If it was 12 tf on RDNA it would shitstomp a 2080ti. A 5700xt is about twice the power of a X1X and sits around 9.75 tf. RDNA TF and GCN TF are not the same.

I got excited when I heard the rumor and was really excited but regardless it will probably be a little better then a 5700xt and that's amazing for a console.

No it wouldn't shitstomp a 2080 Ti. 12 TFLOPs 23% faster than 9.75 TFLOPs. The 2080 Super is about 25% faster than the 5700XT at 4K. 12 TFLOPs RDNA puts it on the same level as a 2080 Super. 2080 Ti is another 20% faster. It would need to be in excess of 15 TFLOPs to shitstomp a 2080 Ti.

You think I'm supporting it? No. I said it's rumored, never said it was true. WindowsCentral said that, DF for now are going with that. They asked Microsoft who refused to comment.

The One X was marketed as 4X the One so it makes sense that if the Series X is 2x the One X, it would be 8x the One. Seems pretty consistent to me.

Sony is turning in to Nintendo of the past: arrogant, full of censorship, over-depending on their own exclusives.

If they don't have a power advantage over their comp they'll be in trouble next gen because they are putting everything they have in Western content that tends to rely on higher end tech.

Same thing happened to Microsoft with the 360, they were popular during gen 7, then over-relied on third party titles, then the Xbox One happened.
