Seems like 2024 is a plausible release date. It sounds like 2028 is going to be the release time for next gen.
"the PlayStation 5 Pro will be targeting improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, a new ‘performance mode’ for 8K resolution"
Hold up, wait a minute, my PS5 box from 2020 has the 8K logo, and i have to get the Pro for the 8k resolution? What is this scam?
Sony complained they would get a lesser version of COD from Xbox, lets see the tears if the leaks are true and the PS5 PRO gets the same version as the series X until MS release a PRO
@hardwenzen: This doesn’t affect you….you game on low res. 😎
I game on the most popular resolution with gamers that take their gaming seriously. Too bad that 1440p is now higher than X's average as of the last year or so.
@ghostofgolden: 60 cu?? Lol...the Xbox has 32 cu from 2020. The Xbox series X ultimate is probably going to release with 100 cu. Sony getting rekkd again.
@hardwenzen: That’s cool. When you’re playing Xbox bangers like Starfield and Diablo 4, just keep telling yourself that they wouldn’t look better in 4K HDR.

When i am 65, i will care about your boomer setup. Btw, can't wait to abuse Starfield for $1🤡🤡🤡And when i do, i'll make sure to remind you on weekly basis.
@hardwenzen: lol, we’re the same in that regard lemwenzen, I only spend what I can afford too.
Well, i mean, Starfield is worth $1, its all its worth, really, so i am glad you agree.

Phil and Co have stated many times that they aren’t doing a mid-gen refresh. In fact, they stated the Series X IS the mid-gen refresh. Whatever that means…

I guess this makes sense...xbox has now become microsoft windows pc
@hardwenzen: Only spending what you can afford is not the same as paying what it’s worth. Nice try though.
Serious question though for once - will you get a pro ps5 if it launches….considering how little you use your current ps5?

The difference between me and you is that i use judgement, my brain, before purchasing anything. Just like with the PS4Pro, i will look at its specs, and decide if its worthy of an upgrade, or its yet another cash grab just like the PS4Pro was.🤡
I don't buy it. There's no compulsion to push a PS5 Pro, it's performance isn't overlapped by Series X|S presence on market, whereas 8th gen consoles where much regarded as underwhelming all around it didn't surprise me they did a mid-gen refresh. Whether MS plans to counter I think will be limited more by the Series S, and not wanting to create a scenario where they force modern devs to leave it in the dust.
Furthermore, dead end PS rumors seem to flourish in the vacuum created by Sony's lack of timely and substantive messaging and updates of their game output, and I'm of mind the ABK acquisition is going to compel more outrageous rumors about the PS5. Right now Sony is probably under greater pressure just to release exclusive games which is being hindered bogging down their top talent on PC ports.
I'd say the benefit of such a move isn't to benefit Sony's market footprint, but to force a response from Microsoft which would befuddle management of their console line-up. But, seems to be an unnecessary and resource consuming tactic for such a less substantial outcome.
I'd imagine given their investment strategy of late revolves around acquisition of studios to focus on live service games and PC ports and game remasters, this is also a notable departure of established strategy.
I'm skeptical, obviously. I've no doubt Sony is in constant research and development as a contingency, like say if Microsoft should mid-gen refresh the Xbox, and just as likely Microsoft doing constant research and development should Sony likely do it. I'm more of idea both will want to use their forward compatibility to launch a 10th gen system earlier than let 9th gen drag out, but decisions like that are more compelled by how the current generation is shaping up, and right now it's too early to say it's time to make the jump.
I could however see Sony pushing a high end PS5 if the aim is to push new high end televisions at the same time. Well, in that case, perhaps there's something to be considered there. But that's a gambit IMO. I don't think consumers at large want to invest in new 8K TVs and more expensive consoles.

graphics or quality mode on just about every ps5 game ive tried is simply not playable. maybe for people oblivious to framerate or who just want to take screenshots. ive been saying for the past 2 years those modes should come with an "unlock with a ps5 pro coming soon" message. late 2024 sounds about right to me
I just don't believe it. Then again, I also didn't believe Sony would release a streaming only handheld so I could be wrong on this too.
Hopefully if it is true, they focus on going 60-120 fps and not worry about 8k. These console can barely do 4k on modern games in 2023. Can we get that as a steady resolution with a steady frame-rate before we do another resolution jump to tv's hardly anyone even has?
Pro models are a scam designed to manipulate console warriors who don't even realize they desire PC power.
Normally I would look forward to a Pro model due to consoles being underpowered, but I just want Sony to bring all their games to PC and in a more timely manner.
True we're still missing Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo and Horizon Forbidden West.
Code name ”Trinity” for real 😮 ? Is it being developed by Mark ”Oppenheimer” Cerny, the destroyer of worlds?
People need to not get hung up on the 8K stuff. That’s nothing but a buzzword. A 60cu PS5 Pro won’t hit native 4K/60 at “highest” settings… But it will run games MUCH better than the current PS5.
If it is ever true, I hope it isn't as big as the PS5. At this point, I'd rather have a PS5 slim than a Pro, just for the exclusives. I already have my PC to play at max fidelity graphics anyway.
I'm more interested in the Slim model than the Pro model as I still think PS5 is as powerful as it is and even most of DF crew agrees that a Pro model is unnecessary given the fact the standard PS5 hasn't been fully utilized by developers just yet. If I were Sony, I would just skip the mid-gen refresh and go straight to PS6. (And we all know PS6 is already in-development)
The PS5 Pro has been in development long before 2022 which makes me think this information isn't entirely correct.
I'm definitely in for one. I have no reason to believe there won't be a PS5 Pro. Hell, I remember people here swearing that there wasn't going to be a PS5. Chances are there will be one. I'll get it and give one of my kids my current PS5, that way I'll only need to get one more.. lol. Haters gunna hate, I'll play PS, XBOX, Nin, or PC.. who cares?
Thinking about it: what is the purpose of having multiple versions of the same home console? To drive sales?
And speaking of the "slim" versions, do these versions are built to be durable or to cut costs?
Not much to go on. But if it's only 60 CUs....that's not much of a jump. That's like jumping from a 6650Xt to a 6800 roughly. I wouldn't bother anyway unless i was getting the 6800 for peanuts.
Maybe it will be clocked significantly higher and have a few tricks from RDNA3/4 added too.
Like the X1X and PS4 pro though...i think any pro console is going to be pretty pointless anyway. Just wait longer for a more robustly upgraded PS6. Slim consoles would be nicer.
@ghostofgolden:
What they mean is the Xbox Series S (4Tflops) is the literal successor to the Xbox One S (1.3 TLFOPs).
While the Xbox Series X (12 Tflops) is the literal successor to the Xbox One X (6 Tflops).
The only difference is they are releasing two consoles at once, instead of a 4 year gap like last gen.
We have been pitting the XSX against the PS5 and XSS has been a last gen console doing its own thing.
But from 2024 onward its going to be PS5 Pro vs XSX and PS5 vs XSS.
*according to MS.
But I honestly doubt that.
The PS5 absolutely destroys the XSS graphically and the PS5 Pro will obviously take a dump on the XSX.
No way is MS going to have both their consoles get wrecked performance wise by Sony's.
