Looking forward to seeing how they'll handle "Backwards Compatibility," load up any PS4 game and play on the spot is what gamers want to see the most.

I don't plan on buying PS5 after launch and will wait it out 3/4 years cause I still have much to do on PS4.

@davillain-: I have such a backlog of games I wouldn’t be surprised if I don’t get one until 2021 or 2022.

The article mentioned Bluepoint Games working on a big title, bet it’s another remake. Maybe Ape Escape or Legend of Dragon? They were the ones that did the Shadow of the Colossus remake.

This gen really felt like it just went by fast if ask me. 6 years now since PS4 came out and PS3 gen felt much longer even though it was the same time frame. Whatever Bluepoint is working on, hope it turns out for PS5 future owners.

Those are some cool additions to the controller. I really hope they ditch the big LED and increase battery life as well. I wouldn't be mad if they got rid of the track pad either.

I don't care about another generation, perfectly happy with the way things are now.

£600 + jacked game prices and new shittier business models cynically seizing the moment, no thanks.

Sony said a whole lotta nothing there...

Day one

If you take away the Pro and X, this generation has been pretty damn long. I miss the old 5 year cycle trends of the 8bit, 16bit and 32bit eras. 7 years is far too long to be tied down to the same tech. Image using the same cell phone for that long. How many Apple fans are still rocking the iPhone 5? People buy $800+ phones every year or two, but console makers are catering to a audience that refuses to spend over $400 every 7 years.

This is another reason streaming needs to take off. Stadia servers can be upgraded at any point, allowing for timely advances in tech. Sony and Microsoft are gonna need to address this and I look forward to seeing how each address the topic. But the current model of selling lower/mid tier PC tech that is years old, and putting it in a small, hot box for 7 years is holding gaming back. As an enthusiast, its frustrating.

Sounds like the same controller. Just with haptic feedback and "adaptive triggers." I'll just have to keep playing most of these multiplatform games with a mouse and keyboard.

It may turn out more gimmicky than the wiimote, but I like what I'm hearing about Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

1080p 60 would be great the controller sounds innovative but not really needed.

Um, have you used a Xbox One controller? They did their turn 6 years ago... It's about time Sony has done something with trigger feedback! Hopefully this forces them to ditch that ridiculous, squishy L2/R2 b.s. they've done for generations now.

I went through this with the Lems and the X announcement... You can't just add this feature and expect everything to work. Patches will need to be released and work will need to be done to every game in order for this to happen. There isn't some magic switch that can just be flipped.

I just read the article. Not too much exciting news. I don't think that the whole haptic feedback thing will improve the gaming experience a lot, if at all. Still, I am excited to learn more about the PS5 and its games soon. Hopefully more substantial news will arrive shortly.

PC and consoles are very different. You don't have to look any further than the PS4 and the PS4 Pro to see the issues. There were many games that ran exactly the same using boost mode on the Pro, and a handful of games that ran worse or crashed. When games are coded for a specific console, that's exactly how they're coded and optimized. PC games are coded with endless hardware combinations in mind. And PC gamers can change graphical settings and performance targets on the fly. Not to mention hardware manufacturers release drivers quite often.

As for your second comment... That's not how things work. When one project is done, it's on to the next. Resources and man power would need to be dedicated by each studio to update PS4 games to run at 1080/60 on PS5. Where is that money coming from? Because that would temp Sony to charge for backwards compatibility, and we all know how you all feel about paying money for things. Microsoft has done good work updating their older games with X patches, but that business model is hardly sustainable. I think that was all a good faith type of thing to attract new customers. Since it hasn't really panned out, I wouldn't expect that type of support in the future.

Hm...normally I'd be more excited about this...but them micro-transactions make me nervous for next gen. Plus, there's more than enough games available for my 18 systems that I currently either have or can play games for via BC.

@Gatygun: PC doesn't have perfect BC either lol, better then this gens consoles sure, but you have to go through a lot of b.s. to get a lot of older games to run.

Everything sounds good so far. So much for that article saying that Sony was in disarray before the launch of the PS5 last week. HA! It actually has ray tracing at the hardware level, but, realistically, that means it's definitely going to be at the cost of performance for the games that utilize it.

The only thing is, how much sticker shock is this thing going to give us?

Well ok not that shocked.

Anyway I’m pretty hyped for next gen and the fact that the Blu-ray Discs will hold 100 GB gives me the warm fuzzies. 😁

As expect, been knowing late 2020 release for a year now. Now they will do the real reveal somewhere from November to February 2020 the latest. Here they will show some games too, including what Guerrilla have been working on, and the box and so. My only 2 questions are, will Sony do MP games again and will PS5 have more than PS4 BC...

Not really. Red Dead Redemption 2's physical copy contained to discs. The original game install was 99 GB. Each PS4 disc only holds 50 GB. So on PS5, a game the size of RDR2 should be able to fit on a single disc.

Largely depends on the games at launch too.

Depends on the games. PS4 was a pretty big letdown for me other than 4 games. I’ll wait for a couple years for the library to mature first then decide.

anyone ever install a game without internet on?

This is the case most of the time, but not always.

Off the top of my head:

  • Spyro Trilogy Remake - Disc missing 1 or both of the sequels.
  • The Division 2 - The disc contained no game data. Day 1 patch was 90GB, same as the install size.

And just for fun I'd like to point out that when I moved into my place a few years ago, I didn't have internet for a few days. No worries, right? Just grab a few Blue Rays from the Red Box. Surprise, surprise - I have to let my PS4 access the internet to play a Blue Ray. It only had to do it once, but it just so happened that I never tried to watch a movie on the console before that. Just a little wtf moment. I was able to make a hot spot using my phone and let it do its copy protection BS.

Not interested. Sony kind of lost me after the godlike ps2. I still like their handhelds tho.

Some boxes Sony needs to check to gain my interest:

Less focus on western games, more focus on Japanese games. I don't care for boring ass walking simulators. TLoU bored me to death. I've tired playing through it twice. Bring me more team ico or a new legend of dragoon.

Stop the needless censorship of Japanese games. Nintendo is beating Sony in this regard. PC us straight killing it. PlayStation started as a brand aimed at mature gamers, time to get back to its roots and **** off with the sjw shit.

Stop worrying about stupid ass multimedia functions. I have a million devices for streaming and playing blu rays. It should be about the games. Not how many different apps I can use for watching tv shows.

I have more but these are the big three for me. Otherwise I'll just roll Nintendo and retro. Maybe a cheap gaming pc for any Japanese games that switch doesn't happen to get.

Nothing like confirming something at some random date and time that everyone already knew. Oh well, I guess they said it though...

By the way, where is the controller? Is this factual or more of another anecdotal evidence type of thing? Picture or video?

I'm hoping they release an official elite controller like Xbox.
