First of all, it is clear to me that he is butthurt about not being able to play Returnal, a 9/10 masterpiece on his PC.

Secondly, they're complete fools if they think that the PS5's SSD is unable to handle a 4y old game in 120fps.

I don't think it has to do with technical capabilities but how Sony structures publishing on their platforms. This is why we had to have Control Ultimate Edition. Why some games need re-releases on PS5 and just an update on Xbox.

Anyhow, forget what game it was, but one solution was to add an add-on for last gen version cheap to give players access to next gen version. Not sure if easy for developers but at least better for consumers this way.

who is butt hurt? Surely you are not suggesting I am. Returnal looks fun and I am glad you guys have that. It still needs some tweaks (like being able to save and quit and then reload the save which makes it disappear).

If I get a PS5 I will pick up that game, but I would not pay full price for it.

yes technically the PS5 can handle 120fps.. it has to do with their UI and how it handles PS4 games. This could probably be fixed with a change to the UI

Most probably by design because Sony wants to further fleece the developers as it will be considered a new game or it could also very well be the case of 'Sony has chimps for software engineers'.

Clearly he didn't watch Mark Cernys PS5 presentation.

The PS5 can only run in 3 modes: PS5, Pro, and PS4.

Any BC patches would probably have to fit within Pro mode (mostly fps upgrades).

This is why you've seen Sony boost games to 60fps, but not many resolution bumps unless already closed with a dynamic resolution scaler.

Outside of those parameters you would have to code a PS5 version to unlock full use of PS5 resources

That said, if you can't get your 7th gen looking game to 120fps with a patch then maybe you need to fix your code....

More like they're holding themselves back. Other devs seem to be able to take the time and effort to create a PS5 port. While MS's BC system is superior to Sony's, there's nothing stopping them from actually supporting the PS5.

PUBG developers hold back games. Their game runs like shit even with good PC hardware.

I’m not excusing Sony for it’s poor method of BC, but at least allow for a dev who have put a quality competent product to make claims.

Can't the maker do Control Ultimate edition free for xbox and paid on ps5? Why did it hold xbox back they can do it for xbox right now well than do that one instead of complain and if you can't do ps5 its simple or do just the ps5. This is crazy ps5 isn't holding back anyone. If your dev and have paths to upgrade a game do it if you don't, dont say one thing is holding everyone back that's ridiculous.

@ProtossRushX: But you do get the free upgrade on Control Ultimate Edition from Xbox One to Xbox Series systems. It was something about if you just purchased the regular edition of Control it couldn’t be upgraded for some reason. Don’t know how it works on PS4/PS5.

Are there any games on the PS4 that get a free upgrade to the PS5 version as well? I already have purchased a number of games for the Xbox One that can be upgraded to the Xbox Series X version and most games coming out these days are both Xbox One/Xbox Series X. Essentially your getting two versions for one price.

That's the case for some games, but Control had a timed exclusive DLC on PlayStstion so unlikely they'd be allowed to as some kind of parity clause came attached.

Idk who plays pubg anymore and Idk who plays it on consoles but this one I agree. Sony somehow dont have methods to ensure PS5 able to activate custom settings on PS4 BC titles.
