PS5 - Either Production Has Picked Up Substantially, Or Demand Has Dropped Off

Until about a month ago, PS5 consoles would sell out within minutes of going up online. Now we are seeing them up for hours. They Horizon bundle has currently been up since 4PM est. It’s still available…Has the hype died down? Have folks realized this thing isn’t worth all the hype? Or had production reached the levels of that Xbox nobody wants? Did Phil Spencer’s GoW hype scare off the PS loyalists? Thoughts?

I am concerned because this is concerning.

I would think production went up a bit. In Canada PS5 the bundle sells out in like 5 days. Series X sells out around 1.5+ weeks.

I could’ve easily gotten an X while it would’ve taken some looking to get a 5 bundle and a regular 5 is even more scarce.

It’s good to know that if I didn’t get a PS5 8 months after release I would be able to get a next gen system now.

Just logged in to check and only the Horizon bundle is left.

@goldenelementxl: I'm just speculating. I guess everyone's waiting for God of War: Ragnarok/PS5 bundle might be the case cause that game is the most anticipated title on PS5, even I'm holding out for that kind of a bundle myself. Or probably this whole inflation is effecting few people and want to take care of life before spending on games & consoles perhaps?

The third option is the right one. Ouya is back baby and this time is for real!!

I only go with what is going on at Bestbuy. I am of the belief that is where most people shop for consoles anyway. I could be wrong. I am sure Amazon also does well.

The inflation thing mixed with all these people not working had to catch up with folks and their finances at some point. Its wild how everything from nurses, to fast food, to delivery drivers, to contractors and everything in between are short staffed…

It’s a hard choice, both systems don’t have any games.

Devs have been spooked by these “value” conscience gamers that expect blockbuster titles, but don’t wanna pay full price for them. So now we are sitting here getting remasters of decade old games…

When “voting with your wallet” goes wrong

Great to see these systems actually available for purchase in my local brick and mortar stores. Got my PS5 at my local Best Buy over a month ago and have since seen them get restocked there a couple of times at least.

You know what that means. More stock for PS5 means sad times for Xbox at NPD 😁

As for the ps5, sad times. Nobody wanted to be scammed by the bundle deals, and for a system with no games. I myself am waiting for uncharted, and who knows when that's coming out.

Xbox just lost June in NPD and has been third in the UK the past three months.... that time was short lived. Nobody should be tricked into buying a Series S when they want something better

Four hours later it is still available. My concern deepens.

Think demand has fallen for just about everything, Nvidia cannot even get rid of cards now.

This is deeply concerning.

I guess that all the die-hard Sony fans have gotten their hands on a PS5 by now. The rest of gamers need a bit more convincing. There aren't that many fantastic exclusive titles available yet, and the PS5 still looks god-ugly. Finally, I think that inflation holds some people back from investing in luxury goods right now. They need to buy bread and butter before a PS5 (please notice my beautiful alliteration!)

Been easily available here in Denmark for the last 3-4 months aswell, might be a case of nothing being shipped to Russia due to the war and therefore the rest of the world have a surplus…

I still want two more and can't find them anywhere. I wish I would have known about this before right now...

I know during this hardware drought I've lost all interest in both Xbox and Playstation now that I'm back on PC. I doubt I'm alone in moving on like this and not seeing much that makes it worth spending the money for a new generation of console hardware when the PC market seems to be getting the best of both worlds in terms of console exclusives.

Which has me arriving at the ultimate point of this generation hasn't really gotten started yet in terms of games. There's nothing I've seen that made me go "yup gotta play that" which doesn't involve the words "Spider-Man" in it. Sure games look good but nothing that says "spend over $500 plus online subscriptions to play" and that's always been what has gotten me on new hardware in the past.

Reminds me a lot of the start of the PS4/Xbox One generation where for the first two years or so pretty much everything was made cross generation and nothing looked all that impressive because of it. I still remember Call of Duty talking up fish AI like teams talk up load times now as if that's a selling point not just a basic feature of better tech.

I doubt demand is going down for either platform but there's not much driving demand up. A year ago if I saw a PS5 or Xbox Series X in store I would have scooped it up without question. Today I'd walk right by because anything I wanna play on there I can play on PC.

15 hours later and still available. The concern is growing.

Hopefully more supply. It was frustrating to get one. Glad they're more readily available.

Sony reaffirmed yesterday that they are still on track to sell 18M PS5s in FY2022 (vs 11.5M in 2021).

They're moving a lot more consoles and, it looks like it's going to get much better.
