Poll PS5 Digital or PS5 Disc - what is your preference? (57 votes)

PS5 Digital 21%
PS5 Disc 79%

I like having the option of both. Physical gives you the option to sell or lend to somone. But I have been buying lots of games digitally as well so I can see how that's appealing for others. What about you, SW? What is your preference?

Have bought only one physical game the entire gen (Witcher 3). I just don’t care about it. Prefer to not have the cases at home. I think I might as well go with the digital only version.

Considering game file downloads will likely breach the 100gb mark, I feel bad for the digital folks who live in rural areas or have data caps.

@SolidGame_basic: Neither, but I have a saying and that's I like my games like I like my women, physical :)

Now because Sony set some really stupid trends in gaming I hope they make both the same price as selling the diskless one cheaper will set a really bad trend, and Sony's cheap dig at MS for not allowing gamers share games with friends will go out the window.

I think giving gamers both options is a great trend. Forcing gamers to choose only digital would be bad.

I buy physical games so rarely I might just get the digital only version this time. Physical still isnt going to die off because fast speed internet is not globally a thing and some people like to collect those cases

I don't think of Xbox as a women lol.

The problem though (which you never addressed) is that without a disk drive the digital version should be cheaper as it has less parts, and I can see cows flocking to that like an ungrazed field.

Which will set a bad trend, I hope Sony sells both at the same price, because selling one at a lower price will distort the perception that digital is more popular when it would be because its cheaper.

People like you and I are becoming the minority. The next generation doesn't care about discs. We are dinosaurs and will go extinct! If people prefer digital, let them get digital. I don't know if the price will be different. Sony saves money from digital games, yet they charge the same as physical. Even if it was $50 cheaper, I still prefer disc. If we're talking about which is less costlier in the long run, I would say physical. Physical games can be sold or traded in.

I will buy the one that supports discs. Even though I've bought all the games digitally since I got a PS4, I have a lot of BD/DVD movies I will keep watching physically.

If I get one it'll be digital.

Mainly because durr I don't buy physical media. Added bonus, it'll likely be cheaper and the digital console looks better.

Strange, I have no issue with going all digital on my PC, and my last build doesn't even have a disc drive.

But for consoles I still prefer discs.

You still don't own it just like every other IP. Besides, its not like anyone plays off discs for current gen consoles anyway.

I agree with this, I've bought a few more digital games this gen because of sales or lack of a physical release. I really wanted a physical release of Streets of Rage 4 BUT it released 2 months after digital and it was going to be $10 more expensive.

The design of the digital version looks more aesthetically pleasing.

I'm just happy I can buy a console without a disc drive. Hate those things. Discs are trash.

Plus it's a console, for exclusives only. So I don't expect I'll need a full terabyte for a handful of games.

In terms of digital versus physical, then i'll always go physical if possible on consoles. Kinda wish the console wasn't so lopsided for that option.

Also, digital only kind of screws you over on BC if you bought physical this gen

There is no advantage to a digital only machine. Okay, a slight price difference the only thing that comes to mind. Can't lend your games to friends. And why would you want to throw away all your back compat disc library, that's insane. Physical tend to drop in price faster than digital also. Less downloading time and cool box art for your collection. Win win win.

I will admit though the digital PS5 looks slightly umm, less ugly than the disc version too. Pig in lipstick comes to mind though lol.

I own a lot of PS4 games and would like the ability to play them on the PS5 when I get it. But I did buy larger split then last gen of digital games though. I’m guessing it will probably be about 50-50 next gen.

Normally i have always liked a physicle copy of the disc. But lately i have really liked the convience of digital. There really are pros and cons to both. Its not like i trade them in anyway, which i dont.

The big one for me is this

The good:

-dont have to keep swapping discs

-dont have to run to the store to buy it.

The bad:

- it takes much longer to be able to play the game. You download the game, install, possibly download a patch, then you can play. Takes to long.

-you dont own a physical copy so you cant trade it in for some credit on your next purchase.

I know there are more good and bad, but oh well....

For me, it's "PS5 Digital" and I went digital on PS4 for the most parts, so I'll buy the disc-less and just keep my PS4 as a Blu-Ray Player if I need to.
