The PlayStation 5 is going to feature an 11 teraflops GPU with 52 compute units, according to a rumor circulating online.

NeoGAF forums member o'dium, who is a verified developer, recently shared a riddle regarding the PlayStation 5 specs. The image features a bird that is communicating with Mark Cerny in "bird tongue."

Some users on both NeoGAF and ResetEra have tried to solve the riddle. The amount of coos, which likely stands for CUs, is 52. The message also has a rhyme scheme that matches the MHz, and it's being suggested that the riddle reveals that the PlayStation 5 GPU will be an 11.06 TF GPU with 52 compute units clocked at 1743 MHz. As the Oberon GitHub leak from last year showed 2.00 GHz in the testing, it could be that the console's GPU could go even beyond the figure supposedly revealed by the riddle.

https://wccftech.com/playstation-5-11-tflops/

It's actually 11.6 and he said Sony might clock higher. We could have what Klee said almost the same with PS5 getting the edge.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/ps5-and-xbox-series-speculation-ot12-aw-hell-transistors-running-this-again.173318/page-118#post-29809984

Apparently is 11.6 but sony could clock higher and which i don't think they even need 11.6 and 12TF is basically the same.

Now while this is a Rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt as always, this come from an actual verified developer who post on neogaf.

What say you system wars.?

I thought it was 9.2TF, or was it 13.3? Now it's 11.6Tf and we are being fed childhood riddles to solve😂. Alright guys I have decided to head to Reddit or 4chan and start a new rumor, wish me luck.

Yes this year is kind of stacked for PS4 but the launch titles will be very important and if all these ps4 games will be available to play on ps5. Crazy there's still been absolutely nothing from sony but rumours.

A unique way of breaking NDA, if a developer is prepared to post this on public I'm pretty sure Microsoft already knew. As I said.

Actually this thread prove my point,if you see he say nothing, but at the same time I don't think this is a true leak I think this is a delivered planed leak.

But again 11.6TF been the number claim

and even an increase to 12.6TF basically confirm what I told you,Sony's silence is not based on having weaker hardware.

11.6 TF and 12TF is basically the same.

Come on Sony, we need PS5 reveal, not a manifesto of rumors.

The TF's are all BS. Divide them by two as they seem to report FP16 to pump these numbers up. It would still be better than MS, comparable to an RX 5700 or 5700 XT. About what you’d expect from a next-gen console. Long story short, both next-gen consoles will have mid-range PC graphics.

If hes correct and it was that simple to work out he broke NDA.

If specs are correct yes it shows sony silence was not cos of weaker hardware

but at mo its rumour and its still likely they are damage controlling

This TF reporting is all over the place. Sony just needs to reveal the thing

If the 11.6 TF's # for PS5 is true than it would certainly seem like Sony is afraid to announce 11.6 TF's for fear that MS might try to up the clocks on the XSX to create some separation.

Maybe 11.6 TF's is the upper limit of that SOC within PS5's current housing and cooling solution.

@tormentos: At 4K, it depends on memory bandwidth and Shader Engine unit count which can dictate ROPS and geometry inputs.

For the rasterization pipeline, TFLOPS debates don't include I/O entry points such as geometry and ROPS.

11.6 TFLOPS is pretty good.

DF has nothing but a GitHub leak that showed no hardware raytracing at all and that was been tested as BC mode.

In fact they even started a rumor about the PS5 devkit been jaguar when Sony already stated 3rd gen ryzen.

From https://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-ampere-gpu-rtx-30-series-performance-specs-q4-2020-launch-rumor/

"NO EUV. GA102 has taped out. It was based on SAMSUNG 10nm. (You can call it 8nm?) And the new tegra will use the same process node." - Kopite7kimi

....

Once again, it is mentioned that FP32 units on Ampere would be doubled but they don't translate into a 2x rasterization performance increase or twice the increase in the number of CUDA cores. The Ampere GPU wouldn't only improve the rasterization and shading performance but also deliver huge uplifts over Turing in ray tracing performance.

The GA102 GPU is said to be up to 40% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti and once again, this is the full configuration that is being compared. It will be the same if not bigger leap as the GTX 1080 Ti was versus its non-Ti GTX 1080 brother.

----

The rumor for RTX 3080 Ti has 40 percent performance increase when compared to RTX 2080 Ti.

RTX 3080 Ti sets a higher performance bar.

RTX 3080 is effectively RTX 2080 Ti

RTX 3070 is effectively RTX 2080

@EG101:

Man stop inventing shit to make the Xbox look better.

1-Did you read the OP? It stated that Sony may upclock to reach12.6TF.

2-Even if 11.6 TF is the roof which I am sure it could not be,what can MS do upclock to reach 12.6TF? 1TF gap is nothing, but again is not like Sony can't upclock as well.

3-I don't see Sony or MS upclocking just for fun or to increase a gap that would certainly do nothing.

@tormentos:

52 CU translates into RDNA's 26 DCU. It's unknown if 26 DCU is the full dev kit "XT" config or cutdown retail "Pro" variant.

Possible configuration with RDNA Shader Engine and DCU rules.

RDNA DCU = two CUs tightly linked together.

PS5 Candidate 1

Shader Engine count: 2

Design Shader Engine DCU count: 14

Active Shader Engine DCU count: 13

Total active DCU: 26

Total active CU: 52

Clock speed: 1745 Mhz, <--- similar to 5700 XT's AMD guaranteed game boost mode clock speed.

TFLOPS: 11.615

PS; Weak resource tracking API and weak hardware-independent timer regime lead to disabled turbo boost modes.

XSX Candidate 1

Shader Engine count: 2

Design Shader Engine DCU count: 15

Active Shader Engine DCU count: 14

Total active DCU: 28

Total active CU: 56

Clock speed: 1680 Mhz <--- higher potential for overclocking headroom.

TFLOPS: 12.042 TFLOPS

@tormentos:

Remember both X1X and PS4 Pro has following config

X1X GPU: design CU count : 44. APU size about 359 mm2

PS4 Pro GPU: design CU count 40. APU size about 321 mm2

On paper, both APU design is similar.

Differences with post-Polaris IP selection, cooling solution, and memory bandwidth configuration dictated the overall gaming performance.

At 4K, memory bandwidth is very important.

FYI, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU has 6 cores/12 threads.

Zen 2 based Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 7 4800U/4800H has 8 cores/16 threads.

PS5 CPU has 8 cores Zen 2.

My guess is PS5's CPU would be similar to Ryzen 7 4800H with reduced L3 cache.

Ryzen 7 3700X has 32 MB L3 cache.

Ryzen 7 4800H has 8 MB L3 cache.

Ryzen 7 4800H should be sufficient for PS3 emulation.

Remember what I told you that the GitHub leak didn't tell the whole story?

The PS5 is not RDNA1 IS RDNA 2 by Amd own PR.

It also has more CU which get a bigger hit from heat if you increase count remember rumors were that Sony is using a more expensive cooling method.

The recent "11.6 TFLOPS" runs contrary to Github's PS5 9.2 TFLOPS. It's either you accept Gihub's PS5 information or reject it.

High clock speed is a double edge sword. MS could execute "in-the-field" overclocking.

@tormentos:

"16-512" fits 256bit GDDR6-16000 = 512 GB/s memory bandwidth which is 14 percent higher than RX 5700 XT's 448 GB/s memory bandwidth.

1600 Mhz x 52 CU = 10.65 TFLOPS

-----------

Incidentally, my XSX Candidate 1's GPU specs have 1680 Mhz clock speed.

Shader Engine count: 2

Design Shader Engine DCU count: 15

Active Shader Engine DCU count: 14

Total active DCU: 28

Total active CU: 56

Clock speed: 1680 Mhz <--- higher potential for overclocking headroom.

TFLOPS: 12.042 TFLOPS

E3 2019 XSX reveals with at least 320bit bus and GDDR6-14000 is ~560 GB/s memory bandwidth which is 25 percent higher than RX 5700 XT's 448 GB/s memory bandwidth.

2. RX 5700 with RX-5700 XT BIOS = 208 watts gaming average

RX-5700 XT = 219 watts gaming average

Both RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 with RX 5700 XT BIOS have similar average boost mode clock speeds.

Two DCU differences yielded 11 watts difference.

3. Minus VRS, RT and perf/watt improvements, RDNA 2 is just RDNA 1.

Perf/watt improvement example within the same process node is R9-390X at 28 nm vs 7970 GE at 28 mn.

4. Two DCU differences yielded 11 watts difference. LOL

There would be a higher wattage number difference with three shader engines design.

From https://www.neogaf.com/threads/next-gen-ps5-xsx-ot-speculation-analysis-leaks-thread.1480978/page-1322#post-257269719

Here’s my take, because I like riddles. Thank you o'dium , this is fun, even if you are messing with everybody's head !

So, I counted:

  • 16 Coo's
  • 36 coo's

These line up with Oberon's 36 small compute units, with the 16 big boys being the RT CU's.

As for the address, 1600 MA relates to 1600Mhz, while 16-512 is total RAM and bandwidth.

  • 1600 Madison Avenue = 1600Mhz
  • 16-512 = 16GB 512 bandwidth

Since this pigeon is not flying as high as it can due to bad weather, we can understand this as if there are some kings to clear up with this particular pigeon. In this case, it has been inferred that it can fly 100 to 150 higher once the weather clears out, meaning 150Mhz, up to 1750Mhz. It is also said that said pigeon is only a pigeon, meaning that this is just a dev Kit, so we cannot assume that those 150Mhz are as high as the finished thing can do, but they are as high as this dev kit can.

Now, pigeons can live for 15 or so years when free, however captive ones ony live for 3.5 or so. This to me shows that while this GPU is capable of 15TF, it won't be getting there, and is getting to 11.5 or so. However, when asked about if the pigeon can go harder than 12TF, it is said that you don't mess with it, it messes with you. I take this as "it can, but it will bite you back", meaning we won't be getting more than that.

So, at the end of the day:

36 regular CU's

16 RT CU's

16GB RAM with 512GB bandwidth

GPU can go to 15TF, however this current one is running at 10.6 and will at most reach 11.6TF.

What will they damage control outside TF numbers?

With how developers have defended weaker consoles in the past it doesn't look suspicious at all to you?
