Yep, totally expected PS4 would surpass Xbox 360 at some point in time, MS could have gone even further if they hadn't been so lazy with the exclusive games after 2010 and the 360 saw low sales and MS focus too much media over games.

That's pretty impressive since it has at least 1 or 2 strong selling years left. Don't think it's going to do PS2 numbers though (150 million), because it looks like Sony might try to transition more quickly to PS5 this time around (PS2 was extended because of how expensive PS3 was at launch). But just based on another strong year, then a gradual wind-down, it should easily find it's way to the #2 all time home console.

The xbox 360 was sold from 2005 to 2016.

And was sold for $99 basically on its core version in its late years.

The PS2 from 2000 to 2013.

So yeah they were close in time frame,but not on sales.

Hell the PS2 sold 100 millions in 5 years and a few months,the 360 didn't reach that in 11 years.

The PS4 is 5 years and already is over taking the xbox 360 11 years of sales.

Xbox 360 went on rather strong and quieted down at the end. PS3 has horrible start and began picking up towards the final years. Wii had huge start and then fell off a cliff. PS4 seems to be the most steady each and every year.

It's a certainty. PS4 is already selling faster than the PS2 and unlike the Wii it won't suddenly stop selling. They'll be over 90 million sold by the end of this holiday and by Spring next year they will overtake the Wii. Sony will then have 3 of the top selling consoles of all time with the PS2, PS1, and PS4.

Not to try and spin, but the difference is, the Xbox 360 had competition. The PS4 has Xbone.

After you sent in your first inevitable RROD to M$ they only gave you a 3 mo warranty with your soon to be RROD replacement system.

I am a vgchartz frequenter. Sure the site reports overshipped/undershipped consoles frequently but they do adjust its reports every time to ensure it is closer to npd, famitsu and other more reliable tracking sites. I say their tracking results is been doing ok-ish this year.

They do frequently overestimate xbone, switch and underestimate ps4 sales though.

@ronvalencia: no, it isn't. The XBO doesn't run the entirety of the 360 library, it doesn't even run 50% of the library and it has nothing to do at all with overall sales of the XBO or PS4.

Just as Windows 10 64bit doesn't run 32bit DRM drivers from Windows 7 era, hence breaking these games. There's a reason for VMware Workstation with DirectX11 virtual 3D acceleration.
