PS4 Software 5.0 Key Features Detailed

An overhauled family management system, 1080p60 broadcasting with PS4 Pro, and various other enhancements headline the new update.

• We’re overhauling the current master/sub-account system, and introducing the new “Family on PlayStation Network.” This new system will offer a more flexible experience for families on PS4 by making it easier to setup PSN accounts for children and customize parental control settings
• Good news Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch.
• We’ve added a new setting that allows you to disable pop-up notifications while you’re watching a movie or TV show on your PS4.
• If you want to keep an eye out on what’s happening under Notifications, like the progress of your game downloads/installations or new party invites, you can now access this directly from the Quick Menu so you don’t have to step away from your game every time you want to check your notifications.

Doesn't seem that major for a 5.0 update. Wish they would make changes to the usability of the PS4 UI. Maybe they're putting all their resources to figuring out how to change PSN names

Being able to check download/upload through quick menu instead of notifications sounds kinda neat but the rest, yeah whatever.

Shit update full of features no one asked for.

U.I's on this scale are probably done by a fair size team of programmers, animators , graphics designers and user experience designers (and network programmers etc) ... so yea, assuming its millions is natural... if the project takes 6-12 months

@R4gn4r0k: Learn Cobol and banks etc will pay you what ever you want to fix their ancient systems becuse its still cheaper than getting a new one, my old uni teacher flies to canada once a year for few weeks to do maintenance on airports system nd gets paid 30k for it

Apparently there is a (somewhat) unannounced PSVR update that is tagged on. Not sure what it includes. We'll see.

I believe the update is meant to add some streaming and spectating options for VR users who stream.

Biggest part of the update for me is being able to group friends together by which game I know them from.

@reduc_ab_: Indeed, they should be working on the VR drifting issue in cinema mode and add webVR to their shitty browser. I also wouldn't mind being able to to watch side by side stereoscopic VR videos in the Media Player.

These are features that should have been in there from day one instead they are adding crap like 60fps streaming. How many PS4 streamers actually give a shit about that, and how many 60fps games are there on consoles to actually give a damn?

Tell me about it. The Media Player is a complete freakin' joke. Why would I want to watch non-3d 360 content when I have a VR headset designed to run true VR video? I have no idea what Sony was thinking with that, unless it's just them being lazy. It probably is, actually. Either that or they're afraid of the PSVR carrying the pRoN stigma, as if that is the only kind of video content available.

Only thing I really care about is the notifications in the quick menu. That'll be a nice addition.

Any streamer worth their salt is using a capture card, anyway. Only pleb streamers stream from the actual console. Lol

@reduc_ab_: With Sony it's tough to tell. They are good with designing hardware but they kinda suck and take their sweet time with OS features lol. No way to know if it's laziness, incompetence or maybe they are scared of pron in VR. The Littlstar media app already lets us play side by side VR videos anyway.

Ah, it's 4K/60 capture, so it theoretically could stream it if bandwidth limitations were not a thing.
