PS4 console sales up 204% following Pro launch

Sony’s new powerful Pro console is in stores and has helped PS4 console sales triple in the UK.

That’s according to GfK hardware data seen by MCV for the week ending Saturday, November 12th, which says that overall PlayStation 4 sales rose 204 per cent week-on-week.

Of total PS4 sales for this period, 65 per cent of them were PlayStation 4 Pro. Sales of the original PlayStation 4 models – launch and slim – rose 8.5 per cent week-on-week.

Total PS4 sales were 44 per cent higher than Xbox Ones, with Sony's console claiming a 53 per cent share of the hardware market. Microsoft's machine took a 37 per cent slice.

It was a good sales period for Microsoft also, with the Xbox One seeing an 85 per cent jump week-over-week. This will in part be due to the platform holder cutting the price of original Xbox One models.

The PlayStation 4 Pro launched on November 10th after being announced at an event in New York in September.

Dont see why. The pro doesnt offer much right now as far as i can see. Its almost the exact same as the Xbone S, but more expensive and with no 4k player.

The PS3 slim also increased sales when it was launch and the slim PS4 increased 8% as well week over week,is normal,hell increase in the slim PS4 are even bigger news since there has being a stronger model been sold for $100 more.

But it is 2 consoles, one being significuntly (ish) better than the other. Same family and if the rules as its the same console fine. But very few people would be a slim version of the same console compared to buying a much better version.

Decision time now, respond same old shit and I'll just turn off. Want a debate take on board what people are saying.

Its a separate console, whilst the older versions of the ps4 and xbo will be phased out in favour of the slim and the S. Sony will still be selling Slims and pros side by side.

To my surprise a bit, I saw 2-3 people pick-up Pros at my local Best Buy in the course of 30 minutes. Wanted to check out PSVR but they didn't have any display units. They did have one unit for sale, though.

So you're comparing three PS4 models against two Xbox One models then?

Also it's very different, both Xbox One's are just Xbox One's, two PlayStation 4's are just PlayStation 4's, but the third is a mid cycle upgrade aimed to be Scorpio's direct competition.

The Xbox One and Xbox One S are direct competition for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Slim, and the One S is indirect competition for the Pro for the time being.

Until Scorpio is out this is asymmetrical competition when looking at the available spread, in other words useless for comparative purposes.

@dynamitecop: You do know that the PS4 Slim is the base PS4 now, right? They aren't making the launch PS4 anymore.

@FastRobby: actually, some simple algebra allows us to conclude that PS4 sales were about 87.5% of X1 sales in the time preceding this last week. I would hardly call that devastating. Just because we see who "won" in sales last month doesn't give us any insight into by how much - at least not until nice stats like those above allow us to start pinning it down

That would mean that IF Xbox would have the same amount of sales (but probably a bit less), it would still have 38% of the PS4 sales. So in launch week PS4 isn't even outselling Xbox 3-to-1. That's not good, knowing where they are coming from.

well yeah they are up 200%, sales for the PS4 have been down a lot the last 4 months. new console just released.

It's almost like cows don't know anything about sales yet brings em up, logic would say the sales would boost due to the lack of PS4 sales over the past few months.
