PS4's first JRPG confirmed coming this Autumn

PlayStation 4 will be getting its very first JRPG title this year Natural Doctrine NISA confirms.

Natural Doctrine, Kadokawa Games’ strategy RPG for PlayStation 4 will be published in the west by NIS America.

Natural Doctrine takes place in a world that revolves around a substance known as Pluton, which is obtained from underground caverns filled with monsters. These monsters follow adventurers to the surface and it’s up to you to protect the city of Feste from being destroyed by them.

As detailed in past reports, Natural Doctrine will feature a system whereby you’ll see a Game Over screen if one of your characters dies. However, later in the game, you will be allowed to finish the battle using your remaining party members.

The game also has a local and online multiplayer component, and will feature cross-play across all three platforms. As reported last month, the game was delayed for a second time in order to improve this aspect.

I want to see a real next gen RPG. Not a cross gen/platform. Will we have to wait till FFXV for that.

I followed up until you said ffxv. That gave has been in dev hell all throughout the 7th gen.

I will be surprised if this ends up not being bad.

@Shewgenja: I'm wary of the game. Just wondering if that's how long it will take to see a JRPG that is really "next gen" Final Fantasy XIII was a let down, but it looked great for its time and the combat was pretty fun. Everything else, not so much.

It is nice...now we have to see how the game stacks up...

I hope it's good otherwise it's up to Namco with Tales of, but they have their hands full with the latest ps3 installment.

There was combat? I just kind of sat there and watched the game play itself with occasionally hitting a shoulder bumper. I made it to Pulse doing that.. Then lost interest in the game and let my roommate at the time beat it. I learned something new today.

So it's not a PS4 JRPG, it's a port of a last gen JRPG that will probably have no effect on PS4's flatlining sales in Japan.

I have a theory on that but am waiting to see NPDs numbers for March before getting into it.

The game looks interesting. Luckily, it's also on the PS3/Vita.

So it's still no reason for anyone with a PS3 to buy a PS4 yet I'm seeing. Ok, the waiting game continues then. Greatness really does aWAIT

Unless production was sent to the west for this month to buffer a little bit against TF. Typically, PS4 sales have been peaking at about 300k units in the US per month. So, if there's some strange bump from that, it's possible they starved Japan for a month to not get creamed by XBone sales (which there is plenty of unmoved stock of).

What happened to you... You used to praise jrpgs and didn't care about graphics years ago... what happened... or was that just a growing up phase. lolz... still cynical I see that but jeesh. The game looks like a fun Srpg...and someone who likes the genre graphics shouldn't matter.

Personally I am just happy to see a SRPG coming to PS4, and one with out anime in game graphics.. That to me is a big plus. Now if this had the same flare as say vandal hearts or Tactics ogre... that would be great...just not getting my hopes up for that. NISA is good at disgaea, anything else is usually meh..

What has kadokawa games made exactly?

aside from this...

I play way less video games than I used to but I still like JRPGs, and I'm fine with playing games that have bad graphics. But I have a few points:

1.) The game visually looks worse than what the Vita can handle, I think saying "it looks like a Vita game" is undermining the Vita.

2.) The actual game just looks lazy to me, and I don't see a long list of quality games developed by Kadokawa

3.) They should have touched up the graphics some from a business standpoint, people are going to be seeing stuff like Infamous on the same system as this.

Cant wait till atlus, xseed, and nis start rolling out ps4 games. They are always late comers to playstation systems since they work with previous gen years after they have been replaced but once they get going they make up a good portion of what I buy each year.

Game just looks too terrible, not only is it strategy it also looks horrible in every way possible. As someone who is an avid JRPG lover and salivating for a jrpg to pay in my PS4, even I couldn't bring my to touch this with a 10 foot pole.

I've had my eye on this game for a while now. It was orgianlly a Vita/PS3 game...but now I see they are "porting" it to the PS4. Unfortunately, It'll probably still look like a Vita/PS3 game on PS4. On the brightside, at least that's something to play on Ps4...
