I read the recent press release by sony and the march 12th story by gamespot "sony opens up on home". Many articles boast about how users will be able to auction off items and earn money online. Looking past that there are some glaring admissions by sony. Firstly, it's not a persistant world, so when a person leaves, so does his belongings and apartment. This is not second life, although they have said they will add it eventually. Secondly, In order to play an online game with someone you all have to meet in a "localized" regional lobby and then decide what game to play. After you've gone through all that trouble, you have to shut down your home, insert the disk and find everyone through your usual means via the playstation network interface. So whats the point? Why can't I just call the people? I know, maybe i want to meet new people, but who wants to go through all that trouble when you can meet the people online while playing a game. Finally is there even speech available in this game, every peice of footage I see uses manual entering of text either via an on screen keyboard or the traditional usb keyboard. I'm PS3 owner and a x360 owner, and I was hoping that sony would have come to the plate with something more to answer microsofts xbox live. I'm not impressed.

Thats halarious!. Yeah second life has more features in it than Home will, unless you want to play pool online..... whoa, take a whiff of next gen technology. Hey sony, on your way out after paying the designers and programmers, did you feel something hit you in the back of the head, like your change.

if it enhances the PS3 online experience, I'm all for it. But as I've said from day 1, before I care about HOME, I will care about the basic issues affecting online play that are as of today unaddressed. fix those core things, and I'm sure HOME will be a nice addition.

I'm excited for it too. I don't understand the hate that it is receiveing for no reason. They decided to give us something to try out for free, and is rather nice of sony to spend this much money and effort to improve ps3 online system. The only reason why people are complaining about I guess is because they are fanboys.

yep. but it's not only because they're fanboys; it's because Cows immediately said this was going to be the demise of XBLive. That this would single-handedly make PSN superior. Most of the heat you're seeing is a direct result of that. Such commentary puts fanboys on the defensive.

In all honesty, it seems like it's focused more on the social aspect then on the gaming aspect. There's no unified friends list and such still. Heh, it all depends on how it's implemented. A 3D chatroom doesn't have me excited though.

More lemming dribble... just cause you heard one obsessed ps3 fanboy say that home would be xbox lives doom doesn't mean the entire comunity of ps3 fans say that.. you get more anti ps3 threads on these boards more than anything so it should be ps3 fanboys that are on the defensive..

Sony is going to base the entire home experience around $$$. What i mean is... they're not going to lose money on this. It's not like they're creating this as a "thank you" to the PS3 supporters. It's going to be like a f***ing time share convention. There are going to advertisments everywhere. Load times will probably have ads. The walls will be plastered with ads. The TV's around the "home world" will be playing comercials 24/7. The only things you'll have to customize your apartments with are advertisments and everything else will cost extra. oh and about the stuff you can buy... those TV's that you can get, like a sony plasma for you apartment, real life cost: $1999.99. home store price: $19.99 for f***ing pixels. Oh people will buy it too. People who have no life will make one on sony's network.

If you watch Harrison's demonstration of home it sounds like he's demonstrating it for sony and it's partners... not for PS3 owners. "sponsered areas" that you can go to and, guess what, buy stuff. Theaters where you can download Sony films for... a price. Oh yea I almost forgot the area that shows user created movies. Will be awesome right? Sure after watching a 30 second commercial about deodorant before the movie starts. I wouldn't be surprised if there were commercial interruptions that came up while you were walking through home and had to watch.

if you didn't read my post then i'll give you the jist of it...

Why would i care if its on the 360? I dont have one, and despite that if it WAS on 360 it certainly wouldnt compel me to buy one because of HOME. Those advertisements are going to be placed exactly where they will get the most views; and you will have to look at those eyesores. They are annoying because they are blatant corporate intrusions into areas where they should not, as a matter of principle, be. Gaming is about GAMING; not being forced to view pointless advertisements that only detract from my gaming experience.

yah, pretty much. Sony has gone from selling the same product over and over again (assembly line sequel production philosophy) to selling NOTHING to the same audience.....and they WILL buy it! They have been trained by sony, and companies like them, to just buy buy buy; it doesnt matter what....just as long as it gives them some sense of self worth and completion "look how awesome my virtual apartment is! I am a great person for spending money on nothign!"

It's not even finished right now, they are still working on those things to be ready for the launch of home. Beta testing starts in april and another beta test with more people later in august I think.

Get all the information before you post something next time.

Hey, before you post maybe you should read all of the facts. Sony has officially stated that they will not have the features of seamless changing from home to a game integrated until an unspecified date in the future. Thanks for playing.

TC, way to jump to negative conclusions like the rest of your Lemming brethren.  Sony says that they will implement the feature so everything is seamless.  I'm really getting tired of these threads.

Home is an interesting idea but seems like really more of a novelty.

This would be my Home experience: I'd start and play around with the avatar creation a bit, walk around and see everything there is to see and interact with all the items, mess with a few people using the text tools to ask nonsensical questions ("Where is the Chicken?"). I'd go to my apartment and mess around with the building tools, build a wacky apartment that strives to hit whatever item/polygon/memory limitations are built in (100 50" plasma screen TVs stacked to form one big mega 500" TV). I'd walk around and try to find any fun glitchy areas where you can walk through the walls or get stuck or other crazy stuff the designers hadn't intended (but doesn't interfere with anyone else). And thats pretty much it. Hey, great for free, nothing mind-blowing but, interesting nonetheless.

the idea that sony is going to give someone an item for free, and not have some sort of back angle (I.E. lots of advertising) welcome to the online mall. It's like your in the real world, except someone has put a bunch of ads on your front door. They might as wel call it compton.

There is so much dmg control in this thread, its not even funny

First off its, FREE so there is ZERO reason to complain about it, and for the people that don't like it, you can still use all the features of home from the PS3 menu, and just don't use the Home interface.

2nd, Its more like a game lobby for all games, rather than a chat room as people like to put it.  The whole point is to meet up with people and get in to games, not just "chat"  although you can do that if you want.

So plz tell me, how is it that Home is getting bashed so much, for somthing that is free ?   sounds like Lemmings trying to covince them selves of paying $50.00 a year for XBL, and sounds like sheep are upset cause Home Avatars pwn Mii's any day of the week.
