I don't think so.
If you took out the graphics to the 360/PS3 how is it next gen?

Textures can only look so detailed at 480p before you literally can't see a difference. No real point in making a texture sharper than what the tv can display right? You'd need more fsaa because the resolution is so low too, kind of self defeating any benifit from a lower resolution. Not to mention small objects look like crap in non hd.
Without HD, PS3 and 360 would be rendering @ 480I or P right? That means even MORE detailed texturing, higher FSAA rates, more shader effects, etc. Lowering the resolution makes everything even easier to do. They'd look FAR better than last gen, lowering the res to 480 makes no difference, in fact NATIVE 480 games (on a SD screen) would look even better than current 720/1080 do (on a SD screen.)Tony_aaaa
Exactly, when displayed on a SD TV well over 1/2 of the texture detail is lost (on a designed for 720p 360 game that gets downscaled to SD) so a NATIVE 480p 360 game would use smaller textures to begin with. This would free up memory and GPU resorces that would be used to add more (texure layers, shader effects, filtering, whatever.) Thus on SD, a native 480Ā (360/PS3) game would always look better than a native 720pĀ (360/PS3)Ā version downscaled to SD. Note, my point was about (the original topic:)Ā why next gen systemsĀ in SD only, would still look muchĀ better than last gen.Textures can only look so detailed at 480p before you literally can't see a difference. Oh ok, I thought you were saying that next gen games would look better if designed for 480p instead of 720p.

They do have HD graphics. you know that right.
Someone else takes this away I do not have time to ponit out everything wrong with this thread.
"Oh ok, I thought you were saying that next gen games would look better if designed for 480p instead of 720p."
I COMPLETLY agree with you that current gen games should be rendered at mainly 720p. Just trying to show why this gen is far more powerful, even if it wasn't capable of HD output.

I have only played my 360 on a standard TV. The graphics look amazing. Totally next generation. Have you ever seen the video clips in some of the PS2 video games on SDTV? LIke final fantasy? See how much better those CGI cut scenes look on the standard TV than the regular graphics? How much better does the CGI movie ANTS look on the SDTV compared to PS2 graphics?
When viewing a dvd on a standard tv verses an HD tv, does not change to much, neither does gears change much on a SD to HD tv. I have seen both.
Next: The physics in 360 games are WAY better than xbox and ps2. This totally changes the way the game feels and plays.
and more: The AI is much smarter, which totally changes the way a game feels and makes the fun factor and reply value greater.
