Im sure that anyone else that was lucky enough to play these fantastic games from insomniac back in the PS1's prime would agree that the overall quality of the games was unmatched in the genre and graphics. What makes me think of this topic? well last night i put in some spyro just for old times sake, havent played it in years. and i was actually quite impressed with how the game conttrolled and looked after all these years.

First thing i noticed was the exceptional camera and how well its aged. manipulating the camera and its moves was quite easy and it reminded of how most platformers control today, in fact i'd say it has a better camera then even some games today(not many but there is some.)

The second major thing I noticed was the graphics and splendid soundtrack. The graphics still have a very distinct art style and it shows how cartoon based graphic design can stand the test of time.

The voice work and soundtrack's quality was equal to the graphics. Even tho some of the voice work could be considered cheesy, I find it gives a certain charm to its universe and characters.

do any of you guys agree the original spyro games are in at least the top 25 games of all-time

Don't bother with the other ones.

Wouldnt go as far as saying it was unmatched, as this was the time of Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie, but they were certainly up there as one of the greats.

The first 3 Spyro games are definitely great, and they've probably held up better than some other platformers of that era, but I wouldn't call them some of the best games of all time. They just weren't innovative or noteworthy enough.

Wish Insomniac never sold the IP, so the series name would not be tainted:(

Really wish I didn't lose my copies of the games.

Its maybe the best platforming games ever to come from either Sony or M$ (aka not Nintendo). The only none Nintendo game that comes close are LBP and LBP2.

The first one was very sloppy, and objectively, I'd say it was a poor game, but memories keep me loving it. The second one introduced the right mechanics, but I just didn't like the game for some reason. The third one is one of my all time favorites, and one of my favorite 3D platformers. It's really good.

Music was awesome, excellent graphics for a ps1 game, and it had good voice work too. Very charming game and very fun to play over and over again. Certainly better than the Crash games :P

And best of all is that they're all (maybe with exception to the first one), very playable today, unlike many platformers of the time (*cough* mario 64 *cough*).

They are some of the best platfomers I've ever played but not best-of-all-time material. I like SMG and the Rachet & Clank series more.

I don't remember much. Right now the only specific I can remember is sliding around on ice for some reason. Either way, I do remember really enjoying these games. One game I do remember well is Croc. Now that was pretty challenging.

Nostalgia is kicking in, I see. No, it's not amongst the best games of all time. One and three were great, but that's pretty much it.
