I'm aware that there are not many Dreams users in these boards, but for those who are here is some progress on Protoland, the 'boomer' first person shooter that i have been creating:

Protoland - First Person Shooter Made in Dreams ( PS4 / PS5 ) - YouTube

The final version is planned to be out this fall, but a playable demo is already available.

@R4gn4r0k: Nice, glad you like it! Hopefully all these creations will end up available outside a PS console 🤞

Is it the tale of the infamous Proto from the land of System Wars, a noble of generations of royal pedigree, who fought valiantly for Knights of Sony Defense Force when he was felled by the hornswoggling Pedro, a commoner rogue with no titles, at the king's festival all valley tournament by an illegal kick to the face, and thus stripped of his titles and honor, he was reborn out of the pits of hell with only one direction to go, ascension, and like a koi fish that became a dragon, he now circles the castles of Princess Peach and Lady Zelda ready to rain hellfire on those who doth disrespect the honor of his fair maidens and their kingdoms... because that would be epic.

Looks solid, but i think it would be better if it was faster, as in enemies being more aggressive just like in Doom Eternal when compare to Doom2016.

@hardwenzen: Thanks. Everything is under construction, but gameplay wise i'm aiming at the simplicity of the early ones from the 90s (DOOM, Quake, etc). Eternal's pacing and sense of progression was not my cup of tea.

I have played it and it is pretty good. I like the overall movement and the shooting mechanics. Very old school. The enemies are pretty solid.

Ascending stairs are a janky. There is a section in which you have to platform across with 4 drones. That section is mostly good but the random spawning of two additional enemies behind you, is a bit lame because the player sees 4 and the other two are nowhere to be found until a trigger box spawns them. There is a platforming section to the left of this. I am not sure what is the expectation from the player. I feel like the moving platforms should move faster since the player is pretty fast. The rate of their current moving negatively affects the pacing. The enemy detection system that borders the screen is able to detect enemies behind walls which can be a bit confusing.

I like the amount of time you have spent with the individual elements and I was surprised that you included a map. Fancy. 😀 I look forward to playing more as you add to it.👍🏼

EDIT: Upon playing some more, I found a way to avoid the last arena. This trick maybe applicable in other areas. I can share the capture.

@Pedro: Thanks for all the feedback man, glad you liked it! And good to know you are in Dreams now :)

The demo is about month old, many of your suggestions are now solved. Current build already has a ton of new features like reloads, enemy markers once they detect the player, more weapons, stairs solved, etc.

The moving platforms section does need a redesign. My idea was for people to use the freeze time ability to stop the platforms and explore the areas around, but of course most people won't guess that. If you miss a ride you will have a long wait. I playtest it so many times, that i forget that people will still be learning the controls at that point :/

Yes, you can avoid the last arena XD but i prefer to not add invisible walls so people can freely explore.

@PAL360: I got Dreams because of you and you previous game. I checkout whatever you post.

I work in Unity. Investing time in Dreams would be counterproductive for me.

You can make the arena walls higher to avoid invisible walls.

@Pedro: I thought that you avoided the arena by going around it, but yes, you can also climb the walls from inside. I'll solve that one.

I use Dreams due to fun factor and how fast it is. I like to believe that sooner or later it will give 'that' jump, if not i'll find myself investing in something like Unity. I know ppl who use Dreams as a complement to bigger PC programs, to prototype, experiment, etc.

Anyway, hope you are enjoying it. You may have noticed that one of its qualities is its very dedicated and talented community.

The dedication of some folks are always amazing. I see it with this software and with Minecraft. Keep pushing forward and having fun.

I have a game development meeting a few minutes. Time to get feedback/bug list on the last build.😂

Yes!

I will look for it tonight. Am I assuming it a hobbyist dev platform? Are demos/content easy to find within the application itself, such as this game in OP?

@Heil68: Dreams is both for casual players, and creators of all types, whether you want to work on an asset such as music, sound, models, for others to freely use, or to create an entire production.

Yes it is easy. When you begin Dreams you will pick an avatar. Then you can choose between Play and Create. If you pick Play, there will be a short intro to familiarize you with the player controls.

After that you are taken to a menu with top rated productions, and then below that there is a search as well as categories with top rated productions for each.

Games usually take mere seconds to begin after you click on them. It is easy to find and try many.

It also works with PSVR.

Awesome, cant wait to check it out tonight.
