Projected Sales Flop FF7R Sets Franchise Sales Record

Final Fantasy VII: Remake was the best-selling game of April and instantly becomes the #3 best-selling game year-to-date. Final Fantasy VII: Remake is currently the best-selling game of 2020 on PlayStation 4.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake sets a new launch month Final Fantasy franchise sales record in both unit and dollar sales. Both records were previously held by Final Fantasy XV which launched in the December 2016 tracking period.

And all of this on a single platform...

And they'll make even more when they release a next gen definitive edition and not opt to give players free upgrade.

Anyway cool numbers! Had a lot of hype behind it and it looks like it met it.

GTA V still in 5th place. Jesus christ. It's 7 years old and still it's had 84 straight months in the top 10.

Plus it keeps being offered for free on a lot of platforms, who the hell is still buying the game?

Congrats to Square-Enix on delivering the goods, the game turned out to absolutely amazing. I’m pretty hyped to pick this up and play it on the Xbox Series X when that version comes out.

Honestly I think SquareEnix should do remakes for the next 20 years.

Well deserved. As much as I dislike the fact that they broke up the story, there's no denying it's a good game. Though, it had far too much padding.

Absolutely loved the game its freaking fantastic. Absolutely hyped for the sequel and I do hope the next game will offers world map or large areas like FFXII as well as fix the air combat.

Oh hopefully Zack stays dead in the next game. There is a huge reason the dude needs to die and lets not cheapen the stakes here.

As this is NPD-related and I don't feel like creating a new thread, I'll ask it here: what the hell happened to "Doom: Eternal"? It was No. 6 on the March 2020 overall chart, and didn't even make the Top 20 for April. More surprisingly, it didn't make it into the Top 10 for either the PS4 or XBox One.

A bright spot at last for FF at retail.

Congrats to the idiots who bought this game, and thus showing devs that its now ok to make 1/3 of a game and the rest possibly years down the road and across gens.

Whenever they're ready. I have so many games to play. Game shortages are not an issue for me lol. The first game was great. I put in over 60 hours, and will definitely do a Hard mode playthrough down the road.

Funny how this 1/3rd of the game is better and have more content than the biggest MS franchise, Halo 5.

This is a good thing. It means part 2 is sure to come. SE deserved it. They delivered an amazing game.

To be fair bro, the game itself was huge. We should be glad they released it like this, unless we all wanna pay over $200 bucks for the game.

I'm a Halo fan, but you ain't even wrong about that. Halo 5 had a great MP, but it's campaign sucked. Sadly, a good MP isn't enough to save it, since most fans buy Halo games for their campaigns first.

I want to see Tifa on next gen in UE5. Very exciting content.

That's usually a sign that it isn't a massive success.

Probably my favorite game this gen. I’ve lent it to many friends of mine that have never even touched an FF game and the game always blows them away. Easily makes fans out of them.

Well if its in 3 parts then you will be paying close to that price just to experience 1 game in full. You think that's a good thing?

Its not new to use the episodic method, however what devs has broken a game up into lets just for argument sake 3 parts, and will charge full price for each episode and taken years to release???

There's just one problem as I don't give a shit about Halo but at least it came out and you could finish the game, not having to wait years for it to be completed.

Oh and comparing a FPS to a RPG is stupid, and let's not pretend that FF7 R doesn't have plenty of "filler" content either.

Technically FF7R is a different product than FF7. The ending of FF7R may sets up a completely original journey not hindered by past products.

Its very important for the sequel to sets something even bigger, if the next game journey stops at Junon or Costa De Sol or just before Aerith dies then I agree Square is really milking this.

It's a stealth flop. Only the people who liked the last one lined up for it, really. For everyone else, that formula got stale. I hate to be hard on new Doom because the reboot was solid, but after playing it, I asked myself if I really wanted to do that all over again in a new game. I see ANOTHER reboot coming in the next installment.

They are already milking it, I may not have played it but I looked at a few reviews (not Gamespots at they are the worst) and a few mention there's lots of filler in it, so they padded it out to make it a 30hr+ experience. And the game is set in the first city of the game.

They haven't disclosed how many episodes it will be, the release dates or nothing, they will be milking this for at least the next 5yrs at this rate.

Gamers in their infinite stupidity have supported this new model and have shown devs they can basically get away with anything, and this is not a knock on the actual game, but how the devs are doing it.

I've played Half Life 2 and even own it on the OG Xbox, did it have a start, middle and end? I can't remember? Also HL2 was not a remake of a game that already existed broken up into episodes.

It did have episodes yes and that shit didn't catch on, however cows fall for anything which it is more of a dangerous model today then it was almost 15yrs ago.

Bought the deluxe edition and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will play again.

Having said that, the game is far from perfect and made quite a few missteps: linear level design with narrow and meandering hallways that give you claustrophobia just like Yakuza games, a dodge feature that doesn't work, headache-inducing fetch quests to pass the time as filler.

This has nothing to do with what games I like, that's a dumb argument to make. Its set in the same world, same characters etc, so what if its different in parts, just remember they as in the company that's owns it FINAL FANTASY REMAKE.

Its not trolling its true, did any of the episodes of HL2 sell over 3 million copies in mere days? I guessing not and that model died pretty much with that game. Cows do fall for anything, the sales prove that, you're just looking for an out of the conversation because you know you will only lose it.

Same world, different singularity, different outcome. It's complicated.
