*SIGH*

Sure. An artifact on top of a gravity anomaly. Trying to sucker me into taking it, eh? ;)

Didn't bring one. I shot at it though with 2 different assault rifles. No go. The gravity force on it is too strong. I can only take one shot at it before it disappears. It only appears when I'm using the artifact detector. I should have brought a pistol with me. I can use it (right hand) at the same time as the detector (left hand).

Well, hell.

Damn, I need to play that game through and finish it. Is there a community patch so I won't find myself having to go back 30 saves to fix a game-breaking bug?

Look what I picked up in the Steam sale. Been almost 20 years since I played this game.

Now I have to remember how to play it. I bet I still have the box and book somewhere.

I have the GoG version of STALKER: Call of Pripyat. No game-breaking bugs in 9 playthroughs. In fact, I can't remember a crash or freeze with recent playthroughs. I did apply the Absolute Nature v4.04 mod because the graphics in vanilla was just too darn ugly. Otherwise, the game plays like vanilla.

I'd skip the Complete Mod for CoP. It's not as polished as the versions for the other STALKER games. I'd stick with just the Absolute Nature mod.

Anyway, is that remastered Homeworld? I have the original Homeworld still and the original Homeworld 2 CD. Neither one looks as good as those.

Ah, sorry, I was thinking that was SoC. I never bought the other STALKERS because I never finished that one, what after the Duty guy taking a hot barrel death and all.

Yeah, that's the remastered Homeworld. It includes both original games, as well as the remasters. It does not, however, include Cataclysm. :(

I had forgotten how operatic Homeworld can be. It's a beautiful, perfectly-scored game.

I played the GoG version of SoC and actually finished it vanilla. So, there were no game-breaking bugs with that version. But, there were enough glitches (both technically and in the code itself) to piss me off a lot; enough so that I actually prefer Clear Sky (with SRP) over it. I'm currently on a second playthrough of SoC, this time modded with Complete Mod 2009. I'm at the point where I'm supposed to turn off the Brain Scorcher.

But the other STALKER games are exerting more pull. Even the free Lost Alpha which is a reimagined SoC, feels better than the original SoC. Feels more difficult too.

Compared to the vanilla game, Shadow of Chernobyl with the Complete Mod can actually look quite colorful when it's sunny in the game. ;)

Back in Call of Pripyat. Crap. I just resumed and it's already time to reload a save game. Nights are really more dangerous. I didn't even know there were different kinds of bloodsuckers until recently. The wimpy bloodsuckers roam during the day. The nasty ones roam at night. Never leave the base at night without some kind of night vision.

Probably a good idea to bring some medkits along. Otherwise, there's no way to heal quickly.

Some players are really good and don't need em. Not me. I need em all the time and plenty of it.

Shoot. How can I forget such a basic need? The thrill of the night can do that.

STALKER: Call of Pripyat

I wanted to keep alive all 4 of these guys during an escort mission. But, the AI would sometimes cheat. It teleported us right in the middle of a group of zombies at the first location. Then, when I got us through that, it did it again at the second location. When that didn't work either, it called in an unscheduled emission. Luckily, I still have my 3 emission immunity drugs from Zaton. I used one which got us through the emission. I think, at that point, the AI was out of options.

If one of the 4 had died, the mission would be nice n easy with no emission happening and the remaining 3 would be wearing their old suits.

Seeing these guys all alive and now wearing new armored suits, the mission was good.

Better than my first playthrough. There, they all died. Ha Ha!

No matter how many times I see it, it's always fun to watch the mutant behavior in the wild such as the wild boar dragging the carcass of its pseudo-dog dinner.

Then, focus on a herd of dead oinkers...... Only one mutant can take out such a herd. As soon as I saw it, I turned the opposite direction and ran away. No point in confronting a chimera without my one shot, one kill weapon. Let the other saps deal with it. ;)

That chimera was still hanging out. So, I flushed it out of its territory from a safe spot and wounded it. It didn't get far, falling victim to either its prey or a group of crack stalkers.

What's nice about that dead tree is it's actually swaying in the wind or from the weight of my character.

I've been playing the game with crosshairs enabled. It certainly made firing from the hip very easy. But, somehow, it doesn't feel quite as fun as with no crosshairs.

Yesss. Weaponry upgrades. I went broke doing it. But, I ponied up the cash to buy an M249 and earned an auto shotgun with a magazine holding 22 cartridges. Along with the new VSS Vykhlop sniper rifle...... I feel like the Terminator, massively overpowered now. ;)

All three can deal with a chimera. Started the festivities by knocking off a chimera and bloodsucker with one shot apiece from the Vykhlop.

I'm plenty impressed with Wolfenstein II on Switch. Looks and runs great, and I'm enjoying it on here just as much as I did on PS4. Love this game.

The AI likes to cheat sometimes like spawning a chimera right next to me. Not even enough time to react. One nudge and my character is dead. It spawned so close to my base too. Sometimes, just stepping outside is enough to get my character killed because of the mutants right outside the door. ;)

I guess, the chimera is still potent in this modded Call of Pripyat install. The only thing missing from the vanilla version is the freezing attack prior to the chimera going for the kill.

Anyway, despite the dated graphics, the game really looks nice in a surreal way. I also just noticed that an orange glow at night means an emission is inbound.

Made the underground run to Pripyat once more. Escort (aka babysitting) missions wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't suddenly make the team (including my character) so wimpy. The Monolith couldn't put a dent in my character. But, a couple of bites from a tiny tushkan (mutant rat) or one swipe from a snork and it was time to reload a save game. At least, all 5 of us arrived at Pripyat.

Started Call of Cthulu.

Game is quite ugly normally. Low res textures, and this annoying blur covering everything. Thank you, PC platform, for the magic of reshade! I'd just be bitching the whole time if I were on console. Lol

Just finished Lab X8 in STALKER: Call of Pripyat and I think I'm 2 missions away from the end of the game.

Anyway, I think some of the mutants have really weak presentation. The Burer, for one. Looks a little cuddly to me. ;) The mutants in the Metro games are way, way better. Even the worst one looks terrifying.

PT. Israel a very beautifully realized level. It's let down, as is most of the duration, by weirdly poor voice acting compared to SC1. The main cast is fine, all the extras sound like the same voice actor with an American accent, even though Sam Fishy Fish is globe trotting.

The poor voice acting might have something to do with PT being developed by Ubisoft Shanghai, not Montreal.

Finished STALKER: Call of Pripyat. The evacuation gunships took off. But, I elected to stay behind. I mopped up the remnants of Monolith troops. Wouldn't you know it? Hostile Mercs came streaming into Pripyat along with friendly Loner stalkers.

Uncle Yar relocated to the laundromat and is now both repair guy and medic. The Wiki says he repairs weapons and armor for free. But, he doesn't repair for free here.

One thing I like about the game is the busy post-storyline. Life goes on normally and not the happily ever after cliche. The Zone is even more dangerous after finishing the storyline.

This is the first time (in 9 playthroughs) that the Mercs appeared in Pripyat post-storyline. Yet, another noted variation which is why I like this game so much. Heck. This one doesn't even follow the Wiki stuff.

Its definitely not as sharp as native 4K content... It looks like 1440 but with a poor form of AA when it comes to clarity. It does look a lot better than 1080p games... But still not a crisp looking game on the Pro compared to other games that make use of the Pro.

If you want the best version of the game then get a X1X for the game or wait for a future PC version(might not happen) but if you already have a Pro and or want a Pro for the Sony exclusives then you will be FAR from disappointed.

Personally it doesn't affect me much if at all, its still the best looking game I have ever seen.

Doing some post-storyline exploration in STALKER: Call of Pripyat. There seems to be an overpopulation of bloodsuckers in the Jupiter map. This is the third one within a span of a few minutes. It sees me, but too late.

The main difference between 1/2 is a lack of a data sachets and player items littered throughout the map and more scripted moments. First game is generally better, it feels more realistic and less like it's trying to be a Hollywood movie.

It's weird because the characters have absolutely no accent beyond American.

This is what happens when I play too much STALKER. ;)

I played IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. My wingman and I bounced a pair of RAF Spitfires. What I should have remembered is the RAF still used the 3-plane vee. The 3rd came up on my six and got me.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: Seem like R* went for the more cinematic look and as a result sacrificed image sharpness. Shame that the consoles don't have something like Reshade to be able to fix that (a lot of recent PC games suffer from the same blurriness as well). In a way this makes some sense as games are filled with small detailed these days and a sharper image would just look choppy in a lot of cases.

It also suffers from cinematic frame rate. LOL

As for blurry games in general... not a fan off all the post processing bullshit that is making games blurry. I had to use Reshade on the Metro Redux games recently and have been using it again with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. However, I would prefer to play SotTR in DX12 because it runs better, but Reshade does not support DX12.

Anybody know of a shader injector similar to SweetFX/Reshade that works with DX12?

Checking up on Fallout 4. Reminds me of the frontier forts in the Wild West.

I also find games with ships and shipwrecks fascinating.

My nephew played and finished the game with the minimum of settlements.

Me? I love the settlement building and supply routes because it mimics the Wild West. There wouldn't be much Wild West lore without the frontier forts that protected routes and supply lines. And, if you think about it, the world of Fallout is sort of like the Wild West except in a bigger scale, more like the Wild USA. ;)

Settlements also grew (and became towns/cities) around many of the frontier forts.

I built more forts in Fallout 4:

I got the cash and resources in Fallout 4. Adding more forts (Sanctuary Hills and Red Rocket). Sanctuary Hills was kind of spread out. So, I made the houses part of the fortifications then used fence panels to build the perimeter. My provisioners are heavily armed and armored. They've eliminated most of the roving Raider, Mutant, and Gunner bands in many areas as well as keeping the monster population under control.

I didn't seem to take that long. But, Steam added 3 more hours to my Fallout 4 play time. It's now at 830 hours. ;) All from the continuation of my only playthrough. I guess I got my money's worth and then some. I don't know. But, the 830 hours didn't seem that long because I was enjoying myself immensely. The Witcher 3 felt longer because it felt more tedious even though I only have 173 hours elapsed on that game.

I don't know why. But, the photo mode for fixed wing aircraft in Far Cry 5 is borked. Some of the glossy surfaces are coming out dithered instead. The helicopters don't seem to have that problem.

Enjoying a stroll at the Jupiter Map, CoP. No missions left. So, no need for the HUD either.

I just got into playing AC:O, and I must say, this game looks pretty. Runs pretty well too.
