Poll Poll: Think TLoU 2's gonna be more like GoW (4)? (53 votes)

Definitely. 15%
Probably. 19%
Maybe. 15%
Unlikely. 25%
Nope. 26%

Just using GoW 4 as a reference as it's a Sony first party AAA game, TPPersp., usually a party of 2, etc.

Do you guys think that TLoU 2 is gonna feel more like GoW 4 where you have:

more open world/metroidvania areas

skill trees

xp system

more status ailments

equipment upgrades with a slot sytem

etc.?

or do you guys think TLoU 2 would be way less than GoW 4 in terms of those mechanics and just add only 1 or 2 of the above.

While there will undoubtedly be mechanical and gameplay improvements, I don't believe TLoU 2 will delve too deep into game systems. It will expand on what's already there sure, but stuff like an xp system? TLoU was never a role playing game, and it'd feel odd to gain exp by killing enemies to then allocate them into a skill tree. It just strikes me as opposite of what the last game did so well.....it only had mechanics to the point that were necessary to present and drive a compelling and engrossing narrative. They were a means to that end, and I think TLoU 2 will follow and elaborate on that same recipe, but not add too much to it.

So basically, will it be another AAA Exclusive game from one of Sony's many talented studios that makes fanboy eyes leak and demand such critical acclaim that it puts everything ever produced by MS to shame?

lol Probably...nah I'll go with Definitely.

I think that's a pretty safe bet so yes, TLOU2 will be like God of War for jealousy and asshurt among Sony haters.

Any other outlandishly unrelated game questions?

Here's a suggestion:

How about asking, "Do you think Pokemon will be like Mario Odyssey?". I mean, they are both Nintendo games so it's a good comparison right!?

Probably open areas (like Uncharted 4), but i believe it will not be an open interconnected world like God of War. Naughty Dog games are usually more linear.

Lost Legacy, the last thing ND put out was pretty much all open word.

Oh...i didn't know that. I also forgot Jak and Daxter games too. If my memory doesn't fail, i think they were pretty open too.

So, no one knows yet how will the world of TLoU2 be designed.

In terms of features, maybe. As long as you're not talking about combat.

I certainly hope not, its an adventure game not an RPG. The Last of Us was already the perfect 10/10 game. Give us similar gameplay (maybe a little expanded mechanics) and an equally good story and you've got yourself a 97+ Metacritic game, ND :)

Me too! Wasn't the game a little downgraded compared to the gameplay reveal of the 1st game though? Can't exactly remember.

So which game made Sony first party is higher than Halo C.E.'s 97/100 on metacritic?

Probably. Then again it depends on what you think is close. I thought TLOU had some similarities to GOW but plenty that was also different. It's just those similarities psychologically rubbed off on me haha.

I think it will have more open areas and optional content. But I think it comes more from Tomb Raider reboot, than God Of War (even though the metroidvania structure is much older).

I don't think ND has the chops to make a good combat system. They rely on story to carry their games.

Wasn't there already "loot" in a way? Since you pretty much needed to pick up whatever you could find.

I pretty much thought of Last of Us was what Resident Evil should have been last gen. I don't think they really need to change the formula much for the sequel. A more open (or completely open) environment would be cool, but i wouldn't want a game with a bunch of stupid side-quests and collectibles. The Naughty Dog games work pretty well sticking to a pace and to their narrative. If they could find a way to do that in an open world it would be great, just don't turn it into a Ubisoft or GTA clone.

I doubt it, TBH. It's not impossible to adapt TLOU to include RPG elements (which I feel GOW leans too heavily into) but ND's most recent projects - UC4 and LL - adopted the tackle-this-challenge-your-way approach inherent in TLOU's DNA and provided good testing beds to iterate upon. If I had to guess, I think ND will look toward using larger environments but with some degree of randomization and trap/fort building, along with blending enemy types to make for more unpredictability.

Also, branching paths create numerous pacing problems that would be tricky to overcome for a game that depends on narrative so heavily. Doing so also runs counter to one of TLOU's greatest attributes: narrative uncertainty. If you suddenly hand the player a logbook and direct them to go do quests (primary or secondary), you subconsciously remove from the player's psyche the implied peril of the PC (player-character).

Last of Us has its own design failures that could be great for the sequel. The only thing it should borrow from GOW is its own version of gameplay around companion ai. The rest it already has just needs to increase the scope. Scowering for limited supply and survive infected, bandits, and now being hunted by the fireflies as your hunting them. Finally deliver that so called balance of power ai. That emergent gameplay around all the enemy factions. Video games weather linear or open still have a way to go when it comes to full on advance enemy ai that E3 lie showed. Last of Us had great promise and failed. It would truly be something great if the sequel can deliver that. The game is built for that encounter design was built for it. Its just that ND after lying or whatever happened to that E3 demo they don't talk about it anymore. It also getting hard to believe the current team will deliver that.
