Pokémon X and Y sold a whopping 11.6m copies - roughly equal with the series' last few DS instalments.

THIS

X/Y barely has any replay value, and that's only if you play the game competitively 24/7

Still the best 3ds game out there, although that's not saying much.

Black 2 has a bunch of content but it's awful for getting competitive pokemon. They made it so you can get a 5 iv pokemon in an hour or two in X/Y.

I also felt it was abit underwhelming but tbh it's to be expected that the final sprite based gen was at its height after so many years of perfecting the formula, meanwhile X/Y was the first 3D entry to the series. I can imagine alot of resources went into creating 3D models of 750 different 'mons, not to mention detailed animations built from the ground up. Obivously gen 6 merely laid the foundation that will be improved upon in gen 7, it's only natural that X/Y didn't push beyond the bare minimum. X/Y showed me a positive direction for the series and the potential it has in 3D form, for that I'm pleased.

11.6m in just 2.5 months is phenomenal.

Competitive online play is all the game is good for. No story. EASlEST pokemon ever. The exp share is so stupid. You should have to use pokemon in order to level them up. theres absolutely no end game, and because leveling and raising pokemon is so easy, it isn't satisfying when your pokemon level up or evolve. The even took the fun out of catching pokemon by giving you a ridiculous amount of freebees and handouts.

It's still got a pretty broken level curve.

All that said, it's a great game, and I'm pretty damn happy that Pokemon has still got it.

WOW! That's amazing! You mean something with Pokémon's name on it sold a lot quickly? Thanks for letting me know.

@charizard1605: the level curve was fine. It wasn't like gen 2 where you beat Lance and then find trainers in kanto with pokemon in the low 30's.

What was up with that

(Not to say that I don't love gen 2 but still)

This ^

As people have said it's only for the competitive online, But on that note they could have just Remade a generation 5 mix of the 2 games in 1 in 3D with the "better" elements of x and Y. Having to beat the whole game to get the full content of the game i rather it be an enjoyable experience rather than the one on X and Y which was to my taste bad over all. Especially that team flare part... god.. ugh x__x that was awful. They didn't even give the legendary pokemon any useful meaning. I feel the game was rushed.

So what if it was easy? Every pokemon game is easy. I played red a year or so ago and most of the time my pokemon were higher levels than the gym leaders.

Reducing the amount of time to train pokemon is a GOOD thing. It was stupid that you had to waste even more time to train pokemon. Personally I think they should give an item that gives even more experience than the lucky egg.

And what freebies are you talking about? The kanto starter, lapras, torchic... can't think of much else, that's pretty standard.

By selling within the existing install base and barely moving any consoles outside a few 2DS in japan? Seems to be it lost it. COD and Pokemon going down slowly.

Well, first off you are factually incorrect considering the 2DS has not even been announced in Japan yet, let alone released.

Also selling on par with the DS games on a much smaller install base is impressive no matter how you try to spin it

Sure, you sometimes get one 'gift' Pokemon (though not always, meaning it can't be a 'staple')

But X and Y give you a lot- you can actually have a full team of active Pokemon made with nothing but the gift Pokemon.

Now I personally don't mind gift Pokemon at all, as I ignore them and continue to catch and train my own, but anyone who complains that they trivialize catching Pokemon has a valid complaint and pointing to a 1998 game that did the same thing to make your counterpoint does not make you look any better.

More importantly, these are two month sales next to the lifetime sales that those two accumulated. X and Y will probably end up among the highest selling games in the series.

By selling within the install base way ahead of most other games on the system because there is nothing else to play? I think it's already hit its peak in sales.

You mean the DS games that were already on a system with tons of good selling games because there were games to play? Not one system that had a game be sell this well within the installbase so much after people started buying more software unless it was bundled.

That's to be expected though because they exclude features in the first version in order to put them in the second version a year later. Black 2 might have been better, but Black and White weren't.

It's anecdotal evidence, and while I have no doubt what you are saying is true for the circles you are talking about, Nintendo's own numbers released point out that the number of people who buy both is less than 10%.

so it is just a coincidence that the average top 10 selling 3ds games sells 5 or 6 million or so copies then pokemon comes along and sells almost double that?

lol, come-on man, i was born at night but it was not last night.

what is going on is obvious and nintendo massages the numbers so they don't look like evil assholes that sell their 2nd or 3rd biggest game in two halves.

The second highest selling 3DS game is Super Mario 3D World, at 9 million. Pokemon X/Y are at 11 million.

here are the numbers, almost anyone can see exactly what is going on.

if people were not forced to buy 2 copies of pokemon it would most likely just be a top 4th or 5th selling game.

like i said before, they are genius.

so it is just a coincidence that the average top selling 3ds game sells 6 million or so copies then pokemon comes along and sells almost double that?

lol, come-on man, i was born at night but it was not last night.

what is going on is obvious and nintendo massages the numbers so they don't look like evil assholes that sell their 2nd or 3rd biggest game in two halves.

The second highest selling 3DS game is Super Mario 3D World, at 9 million. Pokemon X/Y are at 11 million.

Try again.

here are the numbers, almost anyone can see exactly what is going on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Nintendo_3DS_video_games

if people were not forced to buy 2 copies of pokemon it would most likely just be a top 4th or 5th selling game.

Okay, 11 million vs 8 million, I was 1 million off on Mario.

How does that prove your point at all?

If you want further proof, go check the list of highest selling games on GBA. Pokemon Emerald, a single Pokemon release, was the third highest selling GBA game, behind only FR/LG and Ru/Sa, both Pokemon games that outsold it by a couple million.

What does this mean? This means that Pokemon would be a high selling game regardless of the two release thing, because it is a very popular franchise. Sure, there are some people who buy both versions of the game at release, but not enough for it to knock Pokemon from 4th or 5th place to 1st.

all companies should change their games 1 or 2% and then sell 2 versions with the tagline gotta catch em all.

shyt's genius.

You realize you are never expected to buy both versions of the games, and that very few people actually do?

sorry man i have friends with kids and that is just not true.

they get bytched into buying both every time.

ruby sapphire 16 mil.

fire and leaf 12 mil.

emerald 6 mil.

Still need to pick up the game myself... haven't gotten to play on my 3DS for quite a while. Some very impressive sales though

@VendettaRed07: you could always just yknow, turn exp share off

The best part of the game is the online. Turn off the EXP share and you leave yourself at a disadvantage because everybody else is using it, its a Catch 22.

The kanto starter, lapras, torchic... can't think of much else, that's pretty standard.

lts not just leveling. Most of the older games offered at least some sort of challenge despite levels or tried to take advantage by of the types by matching you up against pokemon that weren't really weak to anything that you were able to catch just yet. That wasn't always true but there was the effort there.

And the fact that you can use Mega-evolutions now, yet no gymleader can, is also silly and unfair. Every other pokemon game l blacked out at least a few times, this game l never did not even once.

The whole point of leveling up is that its supposed to be difficult, and time consuming. Making it so easy makes it pointless, might as well start all your pokemon from level 100 or forget about leveling entirely.

Also, Lucario, and the lopsided trades where you could get a cool pokemon for a crappy one, where the games used to really only offer trades of rare pokemon for ones that were also difficult to find. Also ld swear catch rates in these were drastically increased. l could catch anything in this game with a pokeball.

Going through the game without exp share will in pretty much no way affect any competitive battling you do other than it will take slightly longer to beat the game.

If you're blacking out in any pokemon game, you're rushing through the game or are bad. I don't even really care about the difficulty of the main story as long as you don't have to battle wild pokemon because there aren't enough trainers. Only game that was like this was diamond/pearl and the increased difficulty was annoying because leveling pokemon I'm not gonna do anything with after I do the main story with is a pain. I see the story as a way to get acquainted with the new pokemon. X/Y did that very well, constantly throwing different pokemon at you. The post game is shitty but it's forgivable to me because they made getting competitive pokemon so much easier.

@VendettaRed07: I mean turn it off during the main game. Obviously once you beat it it can be used to grinding up a competitive team from scratch
