Will Gen 8 be announced? Will it be delayed? Will a spin-off or port be announced for Spring? Stay tuned.

It better not be like sun and moon. All three starters were cute it was not easy at all choosing a favorite.

FCK GAME FREAK IF WE DONT GET A PROPER 3D GAME!

Imagine somethinge like Pokemon like Dragon Quest XI.

Do it Nintendo, do it for the 30+ year old neckbeards who are waiting their whole life for a good open world 3D pokemon game!

@knight-k: The game has only been in development for 3 years. Not enough time to make a big open world game, unfortunately.

That sucks man.

I'm off the hype train, maybe they'll blow our minds in a different way tomorrow.

Looking forward to the next "mega evolution" "z move" "new Pokemon type". Sigh. Wish they would actually try to innovate this franchise rather than come up with schemes to sell more Pokemon cards and make the old ones obsolete.

@sHaDyCuBe321: Sun & Moon were released 3 years ago, so development can't have been much more than 3 years. A DQXI or BOTW kind of game needs at least 5-6 years of development from a team not experienced in making big HD games, and it's 100% impossible that development started in 2014.

This is most likely the new Gen 8 game, which you're assuming is open world but is unconfirmed. I guess when it's confirmed to not be open world you'll claim that weren't wrong when, in fact, you were wrong about two things. And no, there's no chance that they're working on this and big open world game for later; they don't have the resources for all of that in addition to they projects they've been working on.

The only way that you'll be proven right is if what's announced is a port of a 3DS game and the real new game is coming next year. If that happens, I'll say that you were right. The image showing 3 Pokeballs makes that extremely unlikely though.

Of course not! But it is a big money maker.

My point is the franchise keeps introducing gimmicks that don't do much for me. I haven't played a new Pokemon game in forever so I will be buying the new gen, but I'd love to see something new that doesn't just feel like a gimmick.

The issue is that "something new" means something different for everyone, and sometimes people disagree on what's best. For example, maybe you want it to shift into an action RPG, but I and many others would hate that. Or maybe someone wants it to be an MMO, which is a polarizing idea as well. Then for some simply having an open world would be considered a huge innovation.

What exactly are you looking for anyway?

So, you think with a staff of like 300 people they're working on 4-5 games at once, one of which being a massive open world game? Yeah......... No. I also find it weird that you think they'd make a massive open world game as a spinoff...

I think you have entirely unrealistic ideas on how game development works.

For all we know it could of been a Wii U game that got put on hold. It happened with the Dreamcast, many games years after came out for the original Xbox. But i doubt an open world 3D Pokemon game would suit switch hardware. Would be nice though with Mario Odyssey art style.

Game Freak was not making a Wii U game lol. Don't be ridiculous. They wouldn't even be making a Switch game if there were a 3DS successor coming.

I also don't understand what you mean when you say that it "[wouldn't] suit Switch hardware."

This is a very confusing statement, indeed. Does he mean the Switch couldn't handle an open world Pokemon game? This is ludicrous of course as the Switch shouldn't have an issue with this. Or perhaps he means it wouldn't suit the style of hardware the Switch is? Which is even more confusing.

Why does it look so rough and muddy though? Doesn't look like a game that releases this year.
Still needs a ton of work on the art style, graphics and performance.

Going Shield, probably. I think a lot of people will go Sword, and when playing D&D I tend to like more defensive characters. There's my justification. :P And captures of starters below:

I don't think the frame rate in the trailer was right since it was stuttery in every single scene, even just in the MC's room. The trailer is probably poorly encoded.

@jcrame10 Still set for late 2019. No exact date but that usually doesn't happen until the full reveal in Spring.

Pokemon Sword & Shield sounds underwhelming to me, I like it if it went King/Queen but nevertheless, this is the first ever main Pokemon game comes to a Nintendo console for the first time ever! This is an honor and a day one purchase.

Edit: I'm also loving the Steampunk style as well.

Whenever a new Poke game comes out, I always go for the Fire starter poke but Scorbunny looks cool to me. The fiery Rabbit fits me :)

Now which version to go for, I need to look at the Poke I see fancy first before I pre-order.

Meh it looks good visually but we didn't get enough information on it. I just want to know what new grounds they will be breaking and we didn't get much information beyond simply revealing its region and starter Pokemon.

Pokemon is subjected higher expectations this time. It needs to be more than just being another gen and another day having the same formula.

Oh yes, that will be a tough choice.

The Pokémon designs just keep getting more out there. I miss the more unique and detailed looks of the original ones.

The gameplay and graphics are pretty underwhelming, I think most were expecting something a little more since this is on the Switch.

Yes, so no change. It's also open-ish world. Not BotW, but the environments are larger than before. The map is a straight line though, so it's not the open world you were thinking of.

Sun/Moon didn't even reveal the starters, just the name. So this is more then we got last time which I'm surprise cause they showed more then they would let on. So yeah this is actually one of the better reveals which I didn't expect this to happened. We'll have to wait for E3 2019 for more details on what's new groundbreaking. (Not like I'm expecting anything radical other then it's the first Pokemon line to be on a Home console. (Yeah yeah Switch is also a portable)

@techhog89: so basically still no games the majority of 2019. What’s coming? Yoshi in a month? And then FE and Pokemon?

Pokémon looks good but kind of underwhelming with the graphics, features and gameplay. Guess I was expecting a bit more since this was a switch title but it doesn’t look much different than Pokémon let’s go which was a remake of a gameboy game.

To be fair, they didn't show off much. All they really showed off was a new region and starter Pokemon. We got a look at how it will look visually, but we really got nothing else.

It is reassuring they are saying "it is our goal to make the greatest Pokemon experience yet" and "we're challenging ourselves to try new things" but who knows what that means. The Pokemon Company overall is pretty conservative with their series and growth, but maybe they got tricks up their sleeves.

If they announce anything like being able to go to past regions or an MMO-style online system - those are both qualities I'd love to see.

I don't care how they revealed past Pokemon games - these ones are under greater pressure for change and growth than others. It suffices to say the reveal did not convince me they'd be anything more than just a new gen with the formula we've been playing since the very beginning. Sure Pokemon will get away with just another safe entry into the series, but it's not what Pokemon needs. Pokemon needs to break new grounds and there's really nothing to go by in this reveal that assures me of that. We only get hints with them saying they aim for it to be the best experience yet and they're trying new things - but we do not see any of that yet. That's why I'm a bit underwhelmed. I see nothing more than yet another Pokemon gen.
